Chapter 30

AS THE DAY PASSED, the media is still focused on them and is demanding for updates regarding the situation. While Fatima is recovering, everyone else is dealing with the media and answering their questions, and debunking some. Of course, Nikki and her brothers stayed in the hospital with her. She tried telling them to rest but they wouldn’t. They kept persisting to stay even if they needed to get some sleep.
“Where’s the phone Grian gave me?” Fatima asked, realizing she doesn’t have it. Philippe looked around the room and saw a bag saying ‘Belongings’ that Grian brought to the hospital and took a look inside and found her phone. He grabbed it and handed it to her with squinted eyes.
“What?” Fatima asked and he shrugged.
“What’s with you and him?” he asked as if accusing her of something. Her eyes widened and she laughed awkwardly. “What?! Go sleep like the other two,” she answered and he scoffed before looking at Nikki and Tim sleeping on the couch.
She scanned the phone and turned it on. She found the messages option and saw Grian’s number and she decided to call it. After a few rings, he answered. “Hey,” she greeted and there was a pause on the other line.
“Good afternoon, sweetheart,” he greeted in an almost teasing way and her mouth agape and she scoffed. “Don’t call me that,” she said and cleared her throat. He laughed loudly, making her embarrassed.
“It’s good you’re stable enough to use your phone,” he said.
“What are you doing?” Fatima asked and his eyebrows raised.
“Concerned, aren’t we?” he teased and she rolled her eyes.
“I’m just working in the company while Chris is gone,” he answered and she nodded. She sighed and closed her eyes. “Have they not captured my mother?” she asked and Phil looked at her.
“Not yet,” he answered and she pouted.
“Okay.. I’m going to rest now,” she said before ending the call. Phil sighed and sat next to her. “What now?” she asked and he shrugged.
“Nothing, I won’t tease you this time,” he said and she rolled her eyes. She sighed and looked at her brother. “How are you holding up? You know.. our mom,” she asked and he stared at her before answering.
“She’s not our mom anymore. You shouldn’t have tried to rescue her,” he said as he looked at her wound.
“It helped with the investigation.” She knows after doing what she did, the investigators have more evidence now with her help. There were many risks but they did it. It will only be a matter of time before they can pinpoint where they are and arrest all of them involved.
“But you got shot,” he argued. She knew the risk and took it despite knowing what could happen. It was her choice and even if things went south, she was lucky to escape alive. With everyone’s help, she was set free. She wouldn’t have made it out alive without everyone that was on her side.
“But I survived.” She smiled at him and he scoffed before he looked away. She sighed and closed her eyes.
After the two argued, Philippe fell asleep on the couch as well as Fatima fell asleep on her bed. She’s on all types of drugs so it makes it faster for her to get tired and sleepy. It wouldn’t be long till she fully recovers as long as nothing goes wrong.
ON BREAK, GRIAN WENT to the cafeteria to get some food and told William to go there as well since he called in earlier saying he’s going to visit him in the company. Grian agreed to meet him since it’s a break so they can talk for some time. William arrived and sat in front of him.
“The police found their hideout,” he informed and Grian’s eyebrow raised.
“Did they find the culprit?” William shook his head and leaned back.
“They found a dead officer, shot in the head,” he answered and Grian’s lips parted. He sighed and started thinking. “How will you hold up? You know your mother is involved,” he asked and William paused then smiled.
“I’d be glad to put her behind bars,” he answered and Grian nodded.
After they talked, Grian went back to work inside Christopher’s office. He was doing his usual work since it all piled up when Chris was gone to help with the investigation till now. It’s a busy day, he needs to work faster if he wants to visit Fatima later. “Hmm..” Even the thought of her makes him smile. He laughed to himself and shook his head.
As he was arranging files, he noticed one that’s peculiar. He hasn't seen this file before on Christopher’s laptop as he doesn’t usually keep anything personal in here. His eyebrows furrowed as he looked at the file, thinking if he should take a look at what’s in it.
He was about to click it but his phone started ringing. Realizing it’s from Fatima, he answered right away. “Good afternoon, sweetheart,” he greeted with a slight smirk on his mouth. Fatima paused before saying, “Don’t call me that.” He chuckled loudly and bit his lips.
They talked for a while before he exited the documents section of Chris’ laptop to work on the emails that were sent to him. He yawned, getting tired of working but continued anyway. He still wonders about the file but he decided not to open it since it belonged to Christopher. He’s still his boss after all.
After work, he walked to his car and it was already nighttime. He got in the driver’s seat and drove to the hospital minutes away from where he is right now. He’s glad she’s been transferred somewhere where he can easily visit her. After driving for a few minutes, he arrived at the hospital. He went inside past all the reporters and they even tried interviewing him but he refused and went straight inside where Fatima is.
He entered the elevator and clicked one of the top floors where she’s in. He didn’t waste any time and went inside her hospital room, only to find his mother standing there with food. “What?” he whispered, confused. They all turned to him and blinked a couple of times in unison. Fatima looked at him and to his mother and she silently smiled. His mother approached him and pulled him in.
“I was just bringing her food!” she said and Grian furrowed his eyebrows.
“Why didn’t you tell me you were visiting?” he asked and she scratched her head.
“I forgot. Anyways, here’s the food I cooked! I bet everyone here hasn't eaten dinner, right?” They all looked at each other and shrugged.
They started eating and his mother looked at her wound. “Before, I thought my son needed assistance since he got shot. Now Fatima needs it, my god. You should take care of her,” she urged her son and he scoffed.
“I already am.” He didn’t hesitate to say his answer and everyone went silent. Fatima started choking on the food she was eating and Philippe handed her some water. She looked at Grian who’s across the room and widened her eyes and pursed her lips.
“What’s going on between you two, hmm?” His mother asked.
“Yeah, what’s going on, huh?” Philippe added and Fatima’s eyes widened even more. Even Nikki was waiting for their answers. “What are you guys talking about? My gosh, stop accusing us of something. Go continue eating,” Fatima said and everyone eyed her whole Grian tried suppressing his smirk.
FATIMA’S MOTHER WAS TREATED by a doctor and she rested for a few days. She heard the news regarding the incident and everyone involved is now on the wanted list. She frustratedly threw her gun at the television and groaned in frustration. Everything’s not going according to plan. They’re supposed to be out of the country by now, but Fatima escaped. They played too many games, making it their downfall. They shouldn’t have played with everyone before trying to take Fatima. Now they’re in a huge mess and everyone that was involved doesn’t want to be anymore.
“We’d end up behind bars at this point. If only that stupid girl- Urgh! This is so frustrating,” she uttered. She breathed heavily as she looked at the wound on her leg. She can’t even walk properly because of this.
“We should just kill her, kill that CEO and his assistant or whatever as well,” William’s mother suggested and she sighed.
“What did the old man say?” she asked.
“She doesn’t want you daughter- I meant her anymore because of this mess. He wants out, he’s willing to give us money just for us to shut up about this and go our separate ways,” she explained and Fatima’s mother scoffed.
“Tell him I’m bringing Fatima to him even if she’s dead or alive,” her mother declared as he stared into the television. Her life is over and she knows it. “If I’m going down, I’m dragging everyone with me.”
As the hours and days passed, they formulated a new plan to take Fatima. Since so many people are involved including the police, the media, and the news about this is spreading worldwide, they’re going to have a hard time for this plan to actually work. First, they need a disguise to get through everyone without being spotted. Secondly, they need to act the least suspicious as they can get. Third, successfully get Fatima without any trace of her being left behind. And lastly, she’s dragging Christopher with her as well.
