Chapter 55 - The Hunt

*Blair's Point of View*
---
"Ladies and gentlemen, I would like to welcome you all to the Big Hunt! Tonight, we are going to be challenged and be fed by these humans in front of us." Someone spoke in a big voice and followed by the howls of the nasty monsters around us.
We are now on the surface and surrounded by many hungry-looking monsters.
And, I can see that the other prisoners are very nervous and afraid. Like, who wouldn't be?
The light is slightly dim since it just comes from the fire from the torches around.
Then, I looked at the girl beside me, and she was the one in the underground cage with me earlier. The girl looked like she's eighteen or something younger. She has silvery-white hair, and her face is slightly similar to Pryce's. I guess she was telling the truth when she said that she is the daughter of the werewolves' rightful ruler, Pryce's past life.
"Hey, are you ready for this?" I asked her because I am just wondering if she has any plans. And, I remembered that I don't know her name yet.
"Do you think we have any other choice?" She asked me back.
Okay, I guess she doesn't have any plans.
"Well, fudge it," I cursed and roamed my gaze around us.
"Oh, by the way, before we die. Can I know your name?" I asked her, and she looked me in the eyes and then spoke.
"Alison. What about you?" She replied and asked mine.
"Okay, nice to meet you, Alison. My name is Blair." I answered and held out my hand for a shake, but she just looked at it confusedly.
"Oh, right. Five hundred years in the cage." I muttered and retrieved my hand. Then, she just smiled at me.
I looked at the humans, and they are being formed in one line by the long-haired man earlier that captured me.
"Listen up, weaklings! The mechanics of this hunt are that humans are given two minutes to run in any direction in this forest, and after that, the werewolves will run after you. What you just need to do... is to run for your lives. It's so simple. If a werewolf can catch you, you will be eaten. Game over for you." The one that spoke earlier explained, and I guess that he is the king.
"Hey, isn't it unfair that humans cannot fight for their lives and be free?" I let out, and all eyes turned to me. Oops.
"How brave of you to demand that?" The fake-king chuckled, and other werewolves are making noises.
"Well, there won't be a challenge if that's only what it is, right? Werewolves can obviously win since you are all strong, while humans have nothing but feet that we use to run away. This hunt will be boring as hell, and you will not be able to impress your king." I reasoned out, or I said too much? Stupid mouth.
The man let out a laugh and stopped, then looked at me intently.
"I guess this human is right. But do you know that you are talking to the king, my dear?" He uttered, and that didn't surprise me since I knew who he was. Well, kind of.
"Why don't we do something different that this brave little girl has suggested?" He announced but was stopped by the long-haired asshole.
"But, Father, we cannot do that. The hunt is the hunt. It is in the rules." He argued, and the fake-king turned his head to him.
"Do you know who you are talking to, Dennis? I am the king, and I make the rules!" He yelled at him, and he trembled. Yeah, right, the king he is.
"Yes, father. Forgive me." He apologized and bowed his head. Oh, he is the king's son. Interesting.
Dennis looked at me sharply, like he wanted to kill me. Oh, no. Don't look at me like that because I might be intimidated. I'm scared.
"Now, here are the new rules. The river is more or less three kilometers south of here. If ever any human can cross it, you will have your freedom. And, the weak werewolves that are chasing those humans will be punished." The king stated that he gained murmurs from his members.
The humans also are whispering to each other.
"What is the punishment, Your Highness?" Someone asked the king, and he smirked.
"You will be chased and killed. Just like this chained werewolf in front of you. Isn't it, Princess Alison?" He uttered and looked at Ali, who was looking at the ground.
She knew that she had no escape since it's hard for her to run with all the chains around her body. Plus, she can't transform.
"So, Werewolves, be prepared." The king let out and looked at us.
I gulped, and I have thought of something stupid again.
"Woah, wait a sec! Your highness, aren't you gonna give us, the humans, a minute to discuss how we are going to play this game?" I asked the king that gained noise from the crowd around us. The other prisoners looked at me, and I know they thought I had lost my mind.
"Shut your mouth up, or I will pull your tongue out," Dennis belted angrily at me, and I just scoffed at him.
"I am not talking to you, puppy," I said just to piss him off.
And as expected, he is pissed off and about to transform into a monster. Woah! Calm down, Jamal!
"Stop it, Son. You have a minute, humans." The king halted his idiotic son and commanded us.
I looked at Dennis, and I made a sign that is cutting his head and a thumbs down. Well, I love to mock him. This is going to be so fun.
Then, I motioned the humans to come closer, and we are gonna discuss how we can survive this. Well, more like I will just tell them to run.
"Listen very well, humans. Think of tonight as the end of our lives. If you don't run, you die. What I want you to do is to run and run and never fight back. Alright?" I spoke, and it might sound so stupid, but this will save them.
"Are you crazy? That doesn't make sense at all. We are still going to die. If not by the werewolves it would be by the other animals or the river itself. Do you have any idea how wide it is?" I looked at the middle-aged man who was expressing his thoughts. He might be right if he is talking to humans like him. But I am no human.
"Let me ask you, Mister. How many percent do you think we can survive? Or do you have any plans other than dying alone?" I asked him, and he just let out a deep breath.
"That would be below one percent. And I don't have any plans because I'm ready to die." He mentioned, and I just showed an unimpressed look on my face.
Seriously? You don't value life, while other people want to live and want their loved ones to live too? Damn, this old man is a pain in the ass!
"We have no choice but to accept our faith. We're all gonna die anyway, today or tomorrow. It will all be the same." He added, and I gritted my teeth. Fudge it, relax.
"Coward." That is all I said to him, and I went back to advising the other people that don't want to die tonight.
"Try to listen, brave girl." Dennis joined in the conversation, and I just gave him a dirty finger.
"For those who want to live, just run as fast as you can," I told them, and the king said that the time is up.
Then, I looked at Alison and her chains. Damn, I hope she can handle it. I still need them to run at least fifty meters away from any werewolf so that they won't sense me quickly.
I hope that this will work. It should work.
"Ready, humans? And… RUN!" The king yelled, and then, most of the participants ran away as fast as they could.
