Chapter 42 - Torment
*Blair Claudette Cavanaugh’s POV*
---
“Stop it. Please, stop.” I begged with my hoarse voice that could barely be heard, and the feeling of being broken is an understatement with what I feel right now.
I felt too much sorrow, anger, pain, but the worst feeling was being useless. I can’t save her. I can’t do anything to make her safe, to keep her away from pain and suffering. I can’t help but just watch her hurting and listen to her cries of agony. Even if she calls for my name, I can’t do anything to be with her.
I lifted my head to look at her, before me, chained, bleeding, and barely breathing while her head was down. My gaze turned to the man wearing a familiar ugly smirk on his face as he tossed and caught the silver dagger on his right hand.
Then Donald began tracing his sharp pointy blade from my girl’s chained left wrist up to her arm, making blood ooze out of her wound like a river.
I swear I’m going to kill him worse than I did with his bastard father and brothers. I’m going to make him feel all the worst pain someone could feel and kill him as slowly as possible. They dared to torment me like this and awakened my darkest side. Then they are not going away with this all.
But fudge, if I could just get back my powers… I couldn’t be this devastated, helpless, and hopeless. I don’t want to see my mate die again. I’m not sure if I could ever revive her again from death.
“I’m so sorry, Pryce,” I whispered and closed my eyes while my tears kept falling, and I bowed my head down. Is this defeat? Can’t they just kill us both without making us suffer?
“Don’t be sorry, My Love. I’m okay.”
I heard her soft, sweet voice, and I shook my head lightly as I sobbed. “No, I could have done something more to save you. I was useless. I am the worst. It’s all my fault. I’m so sorry.”
“No, it’s not, Blair. It’s not your fault. Look at me, Love. We will get out of here. Okay?” She said, and I sniffled and tried to control myself from crying, but I couldn’t. There’s no one else to blame. I was the murderer, The Killer. They just wanted revenge for what I did to them and their family. But I just fought for what was right. I protected what was dear to me. They were the ones who betrayed and made a huge mess with the Rightful Ruler of their race. I believe I did the right thing decades ago.
There was silence, and I heard the witches laughing as they kept hurting my helpless soulmate.
I let out a heavy breath and shook my head. “No, Pryce... I'm so sorry. I’m not worthy of your love. I failed you. I don’t deserve you. I can’t save---”
“Could you shut your mouth up for a moment, you, freak? I’m trying to read.”
I was cut off by my mate’s angry voice, making me open my eyes and lift my head to look at her as she seemed so near to me.
I blinked many times to make sure I saw clearly what was outside my cage.
“Babe? Wha-what are… Woah! Who is…?” I stammered in confusion as I shifted my gaze from the tortured Pryce with the witches and back to the girl here, who was standing outside my cage while looking up at something, and back to my tortured mate, and back again. But then I noticed that Donald and his company couldn't see the girl near me. What the fudge is happening?
“How did… you---” I was about to ask Pryce, who was near me, but she hushed me.
I looked again at the people before me and saw they didn’t notice my mate here, while I had my other mate under their hands, being tortured. I am not getting things right in my sight and understanding. What in the world is happening exactly?
My eyes fell on the girl here, and she kept looking at something on the walls and ceiling. What’s wrong?
“Gotcha!” She rejoiced and teleported inside my cage, and she walked straight behind me.
“Hey! Are you… What? Pryce? Hey! I’m glad you are safe.” I called her, but she shushed me again.
Who exactly is my mate? Is she?
I flinched when she suddenly appeared before me. Oh, I guess this vampire is my mate.
Of course! She’s a fudging vampire! She can resist silver if they have chained her! But who…? Oh, fudge! Why haven’t I thought of that? That was so dumb of me. She wouldn't ever want to just be tortured like that.
“Do you know what this is?” She asked me while holding up a black card near my face, and something was written on it.
“I… a card? I missed you, Pryce. Sweetheart, I'm happy you are here. You are safe.” I answered unsurely but was truly happy she's here with me now.
She nodded her head and bent to kiss my head.
Damn, she looked so beautiful as she is, and she did seem to be okay and not hurting, though there is a bloodstain on her golden armor.
“Yep, I'm alright. Let's get out of here. But first… Can you read what was written on this card?” She said and asked while whispering, and I shook my head in reply.
“I can’t read alien languages and letters, Cupcake. I’m sorry.” I answered honestly, and she let out a deep sigh.
“Great! This is what I was afraid about. I knew it. You don’t f*cking pay attention to your witch classes. It’s Latin, Blair!” She whispered, frustrated that she was right about something, and I just made an oh face in realization in response. Is it? Latin? Cool! I don’t remember if we have Latin classes, though. Do we?
“It’s a damn rune. It made you can’t use any of your witch abilities. And this cage of yours had been surrounded with these things. And another one… Give me this.” She explained and reached somewhere near my chest, and I grunted when she pulled my necklace off my neck without warning. Well, there was, but still… It hurts. She could have unchained me first and let me be the one to take it off properly.
“This card is the foundation. If I tear this apart, it destroys the whole spell. But… It would make the caster know. Also, this necklace of yours… It belongs to Marge, isn't it?" She said and examined the things in her hold.
“Yeah! And do you know that Marge was their sis---” I replied, but she cut me off, saying, “I know. I will try to destroy these at once, and you need to prepare for a little workout. Burn a few calories because you are gaining weight drastically these past few weeks, Love.”
“Uh… Okay. Am I? No! I don’t think I did, Babe. I don’t think you can get calories and carbs in eating pus---” I answered but shut my mouth when she glared her red eyes at me, and I laughed sheepishly. “Hehe. I think you should unchain me first, Honey-bee, before we get into a war. Are we safe here yet? Can you hear what’s happening outside? Where are we, by the way?”
She was about to remove the chains on both my wrists, but she paused as she looked at it, and the claws on her right hand came out. “Is that silver?”
I nodded my head, and she retracted her sharp claws and held my shoulder and head instead.
She teleported me out of the stupid chair and chains, and she closed her eyes, seeming like listening to our surroundings.
“Ten minutes. We have about ten minutes before they will make us bleed at midnight to give life to Damien inside Donald’s dead body. These witches are crazy, Blair. We need to stop them. They have hundreds of werewolf followers, rebels, who would fight with them to get my throne and destroy the ones dear to us. They are up for an uprising against all the other supernatural races. They want war, and they are ready outside.” She explained, worried and anxious, and I gulped. “We can’t let that happen. But... wait, Pryce, you mean… they are going to use our blood to give life to Damien?”
“That was what I had said. They believe he could get our abilities, especially your powers, to control fire and being a royal vampire, and that would be enough for him to be feared by many. Right now, the three witches are about to begin the incantation until midnight to transfer Damien’s soul into his son’s corpse. Someone will be here in a few minutes to get us.” She answered, and I looked at the illusion happening before me when I heard my mate screaming as it was Magenta’s turn to cut Pryce's face’s skin.
Ugh! It’s disturbing as heck.
“What the hell is that, Babe? I thought it happened in reality. Do you hear my voice? It's raspy. I cried, screeched, yelled, screamed at the top of my lungs, seeing you get tormented by those lunatics.” I asked my mate, pointing at the scene in front of us, and she looked at me with an apologetic smile.
“I can’t see it, Blair. It’s all in your mind. But don’t worry. I’m okay. I am here with you.” She replied and put me in her embrace.
I hugged her back as tight as I could, and I was on the verge of crying again.
Oh, I missed her so much. I don’t know how many days or hours we were separated. But I’m glad that at least we are together now. We are stronger as a team. Fudge those evil witches! We are going to make them see storms that they have never seen before.
---
“What are we going to do, Sweetheart? What’s the plan? How do we defeat these badb*tches and their puppies?” I asked my mate when she had tried to destroy my Octavia’s Crystal necklace using her sharp claws but couldn’t as it’s hard as sh*t.
This crystal is going to be one hell of a problem. She said, according to her readings about witches and spells, that as long as the crystal is there, it would always be a part of its beholder with the spell cast in it. And that’s me. I am the beholder. And I'll stay human as long as that necklace is intact. Hell, why didn't I know any of these witches' stuff?
“The plan? Destroy this necklace and this black card so that you can get yourself your powers back. And the rest of the plan is up to you then.” She answered, making me scratch the back of my head.
I don’t have anything in mind that we could do against an army of werewolves and three ole bad sister witches.
“Should we call for help? No, we shouldn’t.” I asked but took it back as something from what Magenta told me earlier ringed in my ear.
Then my girl looked at me with a puzzled face, and I told her, “I’m afraid they would use someone important to us against us so that we would give what they want. I can’t risk anyone’s life here, even yours, Pryce. You need to go now. Go somewhere safe, where they could never find you.”
She raised her left eyebrow at me, hearing my words, and I could sense that she would disagree.
“Really? I should leave you now? While you are human? Hmm? Good plan, Love. That’s an awesome strategy. I tip my imaginary hat for you.” She let out sarcastically, making me laugh at my foolish thought, and she pursed her lips and seemed thinking deep or listening to the happenings outside.
“Get yourself ready, Blair. The caster will be here soon.” Pryce ordered me and proceeded to tear the black card in her hold, and I felt nothing. I’m still far from being a witch or a vampire, and it’s because my charmed necklace is still here.
I gasped in surprise when my mate shifted into her beast form and put the crystal inside her mouth.
“How did you...? You!”
I heard Magenta’s voice, and I was about to pick up the steel chair to make it my weapon against a mad redheaded witch, but I couldn’t move my body. Then she made the iron bars of the cage move like soft ropes and strapped around Pryce’s body, which made the beast whimper in pain.
No, she’s going to choke her!
“Ss-stop!” I managed to utter, and the witch’s attention is on me now.
She waved her left hand that sent me flying to the wall behind me, and I groaned in pain as my back hit hard on the concrete. Then I slowly saw darkness.
“This sleeping sh*t again? Fudge you!” I cursed as I could feel myself falling unconscious in a way I hated.Download Novelah App
