Chapter 5 Below The Spring Breeze : Part 1
It was my first time stepping my foot at this place. The place where people can fly anywhere they want by riding on a thing called an aeroplane. "Ma'am, please don't go too far. There are so many people here I'm afraid that you might be lost," a woman in her '20s holding my hand to prevent me from going any further than my place now. "I told you many times, don't call me 'ma'am. It makes me look old," I reply to her. "Just call me Dorothy. I'm also feel bad if you called me 'ma'am' since you're older than me," "You're so humble Dorothy," she sighs. Of course, I know my place. I'm just 17 years old girl who's come from the countryside. My parents only working out small farm with countable ruminants and a small garden beside our house. A basket or two of vegetable crops becomes our extra income for daily expenses. I'm not from a wealthy family. I am so bad in the study and not to mention I dropped out of school when I was 14. I decided to help my parents at the farm and get some paid jobs like cleaning the horse stable and helping the elderly people selling their goods at the market. I've always dedicated my life to my parents and never thought about love even for a second. That was until he came to my house in starting of spring last year... * 1 year ago * A fair man in a suit was sitting on the worn out sofa in our living room. He was a young man with mature looks that I assume his age was around 27 to 29. He was a tall man, not a muscle type but not skinny either. His shiny dark hair makes his pale face more stunning in a single glance. "So handsome," I said it out loud without purpose. My mother was behind me all this time gently holding my shoulder. "In two days, you don't have to peek him from the kitchen anymore," Yes. That was because he will be my husband in two days. I don't understand the real circumstances, but what I know is my parent can't work at the farm anymore without this man's help. My parents were thankful to him that they offered me to be his wife. "We don't want to let you go but we don't have anything to repay him either," that was what my mother said to me. My parents keep telling me that I'll never live in this tiny house anymore and I'll get anything that I want after marrying a rich man. I don't know what should I react to them. I agree with this wedding only because of my parents. But I wonder why he agrees to this arrangement wedding. I look at myself in the mirror. I'm just a plain girl with a slender body. My wavy brittle hazel hair was surpassed my shoulder covering my upper back. My rough hand holding my freckles cheek and slowly moving around my round face. I have uneven skin tone due to the sunburn when I working at the farm. Ugly. Do I deserve to marry someone as good looking as him? The night breeze from the window blows into the room. My white nightdress undulated too much that my bare legs were shivering because of exposure to the cold wind. "Why you let the window open?" a voice suddenly appears in the darkroom. It was him. I hurriedly hold down my nightdress covering my legs. "I'm sorry, I forgot to close it," I walk to the glass window to close it. A hand suddenly stop me from getting near it. He gently turns my body facing him. His eyes look deeply into me before he let off his hand. "If you want me to leave, you can say now," "N-No," My mother told me that never leave my husband on our first-night marriage. I was clueless about the reason but that was my mother's words. "If that so," he took off his shirt "You can't turn back now," "Ummm... why you undressing?" _______ My mother didn't tell me anything about this. I woke up from the bed with pain in my whole body. I glanced to my side and saw no one. Did he wake up already? "You're awake," he walks into the room with a cup in his hand. I pulled the comforter up to my shoulder to cover my bare body. The cup stopped on the small cabinet at the bedside before his lips touch my forehead as soon he sitting on the bed. "Good morning," he patted my head "Rest well. I'm sorry that I can't control myself last night," My face turns red. I didn't know a married couple will do that on their first night. It was so embarrassing. Was this is the reason he marries me? "Why you marry me?" I ask him. "Hmmm...?" He replies in half aware. He pulled me closer to him bumping my head towards his chest. This will not do. He slept already. This is our third night together as a married couple. Every night he will undress me and finally let me sleep in his arm. "A-achoom!" Unfortunately, I got the flu the next morning. I'm a strong girl that I'm rarely getting sick. Then why suddenly? "This is bad," he said that before carrying me in his arm to the bathroom.
