Chapter 14 The Agreement

Nov 6 1995
I could hardly believe what Henry was offering me. I can't help but wonder if that man has a brain injury. All of a sudden he would show up here and offer me to be a surrogate mother. What does he think of me? A refrigerator that only stores his food and only when he wants to take the meat. Of course, why would I agree?
I was about to go to sleep when Lola Aergul knocked on my door. She visited me because she said that my fangs almost jut out due to the rage I felt towards Henry yesterday. I stayed at school all day because I wanted to avoid talking about what happened yesterday. I know what I did to our guest was wrong. I'm not in the habit of just raising my voice lightly, but can they blame me? If Lolo Orhan and Lola Aergul weren't there, I might have poured the juice from my glass. I let Grandma in and made her sit on my bed and then I took a chair that was placed across from my bed and there I sat.
"Are you alright ( İyi misin)?" she asked me.
"I'm okay (İyiyim)" I answered politely.
"I know it's not easy what Henry is asking of you. (Henry'nin senden istediğinin kolay olmadığını biliyorum.) " I just listened intently to what she had to say.
"But I hope you let him finish what he's saying first before you kick him out of the house. (Ama umarım onu evden kovmadan önce söylediklerini bitirmesine izin verirsin.)"
“I’m sorry Grandma, but what kind of sensible man would just offer that kind of sensitive thing to anyone, even if he didn’t have a wife, right? (Özür dilerim Büyükanne, karısı olmasa bile bu tür hassas şeyleri sadece herkese teklif eden mantıklı bir adam, değil mi? )" I could no longer hide my annoyance.
"Yes indeed... but like I said, you should have listened to him first. (Evet .. ama dediğim gibi, önce onu dinlemeliydin.)" Lola Aergul insisted.
I didn't answer first because I just let her continue what she had to say.
"Henry has a big reason why he wants you to get pregnant for his next heir. (Henry'nin bir sonraki varisi için hamile kalmanı istemesinin büyük bir nedeni var.)"
Grandma looked at me carefully before she continued. And that's how surprised I was with what I found out next. Now I understand everything better, so tonight just before Lola Aergul left my room I asked for Henry's office landline number. Tomorrow before coming home from school I will call him to let him know my decision.

When I came out of school I saw a fancy black car outside not far from the gate. After seeing me the person who was inside the car suddenly went down. I signaled him not to come near me because I don't want to grab my classmate's attention who came out of the gate of our school at the same time. I waited for him to re-enter his car before I approached the car and got into the passenger seat.
"What are you doing here?" I asked him openly as I got into his car.
"I left something at Mr. Orhan's house yesterday when you kicked me out," he replied.
I feel my face heat up as I remember the event yesterday.
"Hmm ... Sir Hen..."
"Just call me Henry, Erine. And don't worry I understand. You acted normally yesterday and I don't blame you for that"
The man looked at me straight in the eyes before speaking again.
"I talked to Lola Aergul this morning. And she already told me that you agree?"
I took a deep breath before I spoke.
"Grandma explained the reason to me last night. At first, I could hardly believe it. But now I understand." I was surprised when he suddenly hugged me.
"Wait... wait maybe someone will see us." I barely pushed him away from me.
"Sorry." he apologized while scratching his head embarrassed. After a while, he fell silent before speaking again.
“I would have asked one last thing just in case"
"What is it?" I answered him while looking at his face seriously.
"You're not going to say anything to my future child about me."
"Don't worry, after Grandma and I talked last night, I was already expecting that, but for how long?"
"Until he becomes..."
"At the age of eighteen?"
"No Erine. He's too young at that age."
"Isn't he of legal age when he turns eighteen?"
"Yeah, but it's better when he's twenty-five years old."
"Are you sure?" I asked him to be sure.
"Yes, and make sure he's ready by that time."
