I used to ward off the significance of the concursion of gaze between two people. As I continue to grow and evolve as a person. I finally came to realized that even the diminutive meeting of two people’s eyes can be the bearer of change in each other’s lives. There are a lot of things you can know about a person from a simple look in the beholder’s eyes. You can learn a lot about the individual. All you need to do is to excavate deeply to search for the bottom line from every stare you receive. In order for you to stumble upon a full connotation to discern whether this person will bring you fulfillment or will bring you closer to the bottomless pit we humans condemned so much. A submersion— to help you decide. Whether this certain individual, will either give you an unexpected chance for you to grasp—for you to earn a blessing. Or this will be an individual who has the ability to bring full detriment in order for you to learn a lesson— a harsh one that you can still be thankful of, once you will start to reflect upon the experience of that certain chapter that shook your life into what you thought is a turbulence but it was only a blessing in disguise. [Flashback] “Are you sure you will treat me with comestible food, Edon? Or you are just planning to do another trickery game on me?” He grinned at me—eyeing me like I am a newly discovered specimen. Am I that amusing to this guy’s perspective? What’s with the grins that he always show? Gawd, if only he can stop doing that. This is the issue— his pleasant demeanor. It’s easy for him to give his smile to anyone. The smile that made half of the girls in class swoon over it. The blushes they showed off to him. The voting that was facilitated this morning to know the number of girls that are into him. Oh-I don’t even want to go there. I crossed my hands, squinting my eyes—shutting it close. This eye discomfort often comes when I am outside and I am being hit by some direct waves of sunlight and whenever I felt this, it always hurts. I could have brought my glasses with me. Why did I even decided to go out without having it with me? I was too confident. A cap was placed in my head— enough to cover my sight from being pained by the beams of light caused by the sun’s illumination. “There.” Jordan uttered with a polished tone. My eyes landed on someone’s shoes. Jordan’s shoes to be exact. I turned my head down. Still looking at his shoes. “I think I have seen this pair of shoes before.” I can’t help to mutter. And it’s enough for it to be heard by him. “Ah— Silver and I decided to buy the same kind of shoes.” I can’t help but to cease my gaze towards the shoes to look at him. Why is he always smiling whenever I looked at his face? I pursed my lips and frown. “Are you sure you guys are just friends?” His smile went big— it went bigger until he can’t hold it. Because he ended bursting his laughter in the alley. Where it caught the attention of student that are around the same age as us. The stares— their stares want me to sprint off in full speed. My eyes are quick enough to dodge the possible eye contact I’ll make with any of them. “Shinai, that’s ridiculous. Totally ridiculous. You’re afraid that I’ll steal him from you?” He teasingly joked and continue to laugh. At this point, I can’t decide— whether to whack him with my roseate purse that I am currently clutching. And smack it across his face. Or to pull his hand so we can run away from here. I felt uneasy —maybe it is because I felt like someone is staring at me. I stopped myself from inhaling the air that is full of resembling dust. The thought that I will let it go down my esophagus and lead it to my lungs makes me terminate my inhales even more. I turned my head towards those people. What is wrong with a little amount of probing? To see their faces one by one? There is nothing wrong in doing it, right? My eyes promptly meet someone else’s gaze. I was right. Someone is indeed looking at me— and it comes from him. Dark— dark hooded eyes. Hawk eyes. Piercing pitch-black eyes, looking so intense. As if he is always ready to go on a hunt. His eyes looked like it is determined to not back away from meeting someone’s eye and to openly look at them to prove that he’ll outvie the trier. Why did I associate his stare with one of the mighty peddler? It’s because I have a pondering curiosity about animals who have wings to fly and are free to device a flight. My mother recently bought me a book featuring all the flying creatures known by humans. Me being a good girl— of course, I was able to finish scanning and studying every pages of the book. I looked at him once again. His mouth puckered— his thick eyebrows furrowed at me as he continue to stare. His eyes traveled towards the black cap on my head— went to look at Jordan. Then he started smirking. I can’t help myself but to looked at him in distaste. His face bearing arrogance on it. The way he pose himself from standing too errect. The well-varnished black school shoes. The luster that came from the phylactery that is around his neck. The newly-released smartphone on his hand and the bright hued golden bracelet with a red stone that is rich in profusion on his wrist. It’s garnet. An empowering stone that holds a huge quantity if sold. I am aware of its price. My mother have one, given by my father. It made me shake my head. This kid’s look gives a hint that he comes from a wealthy background— a family who’s lifestyle is filled with prodigality. The staring contest made me forgot that I have company— that Jordan is still here standing beside me. I gave him a glance only too see an entertained expression. He too is looking at this stranger whose face is foreign to my brain. His eyes left me— proceeded to look at Jordan with smugness on his face. What is his deal? Is he judging us? I penetratingly looked at him. I want to scoff so bad. The stares he gives— it’s downgrading. The two of them dropped their eyes off each other. As the Earth’s atmosphere went darker. Dimness surrounds us because of the formation of the shaded livid clouds above. Driblets of rain water is felt by my skin. It will only take a few seconds before these iny droplets will turn into a huge downpour of rain showers. I pulled Jordan’s hand to look for a shed— I could not let our bodies get fully soaked by the rain. What if we got sick? I don’t want to be sick. I don’t like the feeling of being in bed— not being able to do anything because your body requires you to rest. I also don’t like losing my taste buds because of it. Everything taste bland— unstimulating to be eaten every time I got sick. This is the minimum thing I can do not only for myself but for Jordan too. We are standing under the waiting shed. Watching people running around to find shelter in the rain. “We’re supposed to eat some good food, Edon.” I looked at him and he still puts on a happy expression on his face. “We will eat something, Nai. After this.” His answer somehow convinced me to stop myself from raving at him and wasting my own saliva. It will only make me more hungrier if I waste myself to do more nonsense blabbers. “By the way, do you know that guy?” His pertaining about that brash boy with hawkeyes. I pout my lips upon remembering that boy’s face. I move my head in a shrug and looked at him to say something; “His stare gives me creeps. I can feel some goose bumps gushing through the surface of my skin earlier. How can you manage to look at him for an extensive amount of seconds?” “I think I had seen that priggish face before. He replied— hands extended over. Stretching it to receive the droplets from the rain fall. When he suddenly splat it on my face. “Jordan.” A whined at him. He gave me his handkerchief. “Here, use this to wipe that off.” There he is again— showing off that warmly smile of his. “I also have this kind of hankie. With the same color as yours.” It slipped off my mouth unintentionally. “I know. I’ve seen it. The only difference between our hankies is its colored patterns.” That made me smile. How can he take notice of the distinction of our handkerchiefs? “Nai. It’s best to keep a safe distance from that guy.” I stopped wiping my face and looked at him. “That guy we saw earlier? I think we won’t be seeing his face again. And if I will see him again. I will give him a bunch of eye roll and flip my hair from side to side.” He chuckled— looking amused with the quirk that I openly told him. “He can’t match with that.” There’s some emotion that passed his face. Something unrecognizable. It traversed his face too fast. “I know. He can’t keep up with me. I am matchless.” I said while flipping my hair off my shoulders. “You sure are.” He replied— acceding my words with enough support.
