Chapter 34: Better Than The Movies

Miss Cassidy let herself rattle her rants on class. She was talking about exhaustion. Shinai moved her shoulders for a bit, straightening her aching back. She arched it a bit, before she carefully fixed her eyes on their teacher. She hates whenever her back hurts. She doesn’t have any serious implications on the aching spine she has. It’s just her muscles contracting, clenching. She remembered when she saw her x-ray result last week. She thought the pain was something serious. Her mom was thinking about all sorts of serious illnesses linked to the symptoms she’s been feeling. She’s glad the x-ray result only showed a note that what she felt is just all “muscle spasms.” It was nothing serious.
But she couldn’t forget the first conversation she had with a new resident doctor that her and her mom went into. She was having flu, that time. Her throat was itchy, it was sore, and it hurts her. Plus, shes’s having a fever. Her headache throbbing her with pin felt like pain, it felt like needles. She was having trouble sleeping too. Her body was aching. And there was a bulging pain, the nerve was infected because she felt the painful aching raw of it. She was grudging her displeasure and dissatisfaction towards what she felt on the nurse that interviewed her for a detailed summary of all of the sores she had in her body. They went inside. And what did the doctor tell them? They tell them she needs to have to do a test whether she had tuberculosis. It was pure horror for her. Only to later found out that what she felt were all just common inflammations in the body connected to hormonal imbalance. But the having the tuberculosis scare impacted her head for days that she was shaking her head, uttering how she found the result as ridiculous. She doesn’t have tuberculosis! That it something she wanted to protest to the medical doctor the moment he confidently spoke of her that she got infected by it. It stunned her heart, but she’s fine now. But she remembered it again.
She let her mind wander only to see her teacher in front. She’s still not done speaking on the rattling exhaustion statements. Someone made a knock on an open door. All eyes turned towards it. It was their PE teacher that came.
“Can I come in, Miss Abueda.” He brought some snacks on his hand. He was subtle staring at Miss Cassidy with eyes looking in love.
In love. Shinai frowned at the sight. Seen from the movies, happening in real life and she had to admit how she finds the sight better than the those movie scenes. Their Mr. Sanzer was still standing, leaning his body on the door frame, hands having snacks, and eyes still staring at Miss Cassidy who has crimson cheeks. She was blushing while also staring at Mr. Sanzer with the same eyes. Right! It’s a movie scene happening in front of class.
She turns to someone. Edon… Both stared at each other, wordless. “Do you get what I am thinking?” She spoke to Edon.
Edon shook his head. It’s a no. “I’m more distracted on observing your movements. You were moving your back for a while. I immediately think of you having to feel muscle spasm again. And I was lecturing myself mentally that I failed to bring the ointment my grandmother told me to bring. She wanted to give it you when I told her about your condition.”
She stared at Edon. She did tell him about it last week. He went serious when she told him about it. Oly laughed when she couldn’t ask him, “Edon, do I look like someone who has tuberculosis?” She was repeating it for 6 times and it only made Edon barked in much laughter.
“Really?” She asked, checking. Edon nodded. And she slumped her back on the seat. “Edon. Edon. Edon. I am speechless. Because…” She felt another stunned beat from her heart when she met his twinkling gaze. This is making her being in a state of daze. She just got lost in his eyes. She brushed the feeling again. “What you just tell me, is just pure loveliness. Edon, you’re so very considerate.”
Edon chuckled. He was liking it, how she started talking with a lively tone. Her reaction is making him happy. “Don’t get it to your head. We don’t want you to have an ego inflation.”
“Edon.” She raised her voice to protest. Shinai was focused on their conversation until someone in class started squealing. She looked. Their PE teacher was blushing too as he gave the snacks she brought intentionally to give to Miss Cassidy. “That’s a love language.” She stared at Edon.
“Why?” He’s eyes were twinkling as he questioned Shinai. His gaze had the beams that he only gave whenever he stared at her. Fascination. He just fancies her a lot. He checked her eyes again, looking at its depths. He wondered, “Is Nai aware of this? That I fancy her a lot.”
“For me… I considered food giving as one that belongs in my list. I included it as a love language.” She liked it. Food giving, giving someone his/her favourite food. She really likes it a lot because you’ll get to picked a lot of foods that you wanted to give to the person. Food giving has variety in it. “There are lots of food in this world. Each of their own kind.”
“I know.” Edon grinned. “Are you also getting what I am thinking right now?”
She stared at him. She corner of her mouth moved, she frowned. “We don’t have telepathic abilities, Edon. You gotta explain what you’re thinking about right now.” She gaped at him when a thought in her head. “You’re just returning my question a while ago. Copycat.” She suddenly said her allegation, accusing him of copying her.
Edon suddenly let out a loud laughed. The eyes were on him now. He waved his hand trying to dismiss them from looking at him. “I’m sorry for ruining the moment. You can continue looking at what’s in front of all of you now.” He stared at Shinai back. “I thought you wouldn’t get it.”
“Silly. I just figured it just now. What I meant to tell you is that.” She leaned towards him. She pulled the hem of his shirt. “The scene between Miss Cassidy and Mr. Thirsten, it’s giving a vibe from the movies.”
Edon moved his head. Their heads were only inches away from each other. He started smirking at him. He saw how Shinai’s eyes went big when he closed their distance. He smiled at her. “Let me guess. You suddenly thought that.” He paused, teasing her with a plastered smirk on his face. “It’s better than the movies.” Edon talked, his eyes reflected an obvious delight in both of it.
