Chapter 15 Twisted Turns

Sheila's Pov
I was cooking when Jennifer had first called, enquiring about Shay who had been absent from work for some days. Jennifer was Shay's colleague at work.
Jennifer was the closest to Shay. They were both staff at Cisco's company. Momentarily, I'd laughed it off but inwardly I was disturbed. Next, I tried to reach out to Shay through her house number but she wasn't picking.
I panicked.
Quickly, I stopped whatever I was doing, got into a proper dress and started the way to my daughter's apartment. I met a neighbour of hers who'd asked me politely if Shay had gone on a business trip.
I shook my head, laughing that off as well.
Shay's front door was rather open which had me intently worried. Why would she leave the front door open? No one was in the parlour.
I paused briefly, had she been robbed?
No way, I thought before plunging ahead into her kitchen. The place was intact, finally I moved into her bedroom. My eyes went directly to a sprawled figure lying on the floor, her long dark hair was covering her face while she lay on her side.
My heart flung out instantly!
"Shay!" I screamed, racing towards her then turned her over.
Shay was dressed in a thin, long, white nightie gown. Her eyes were closed, her pulse was weak. My heart began to this thunderously. What had happened right here? My head swirled round in circles trying to fathom out what had indeed taken place.
Had she been attacked? even in her own home? What would prompt her to leave her front door open?
"Shay, Shay," I incessantly shook, finally unable to take it no more, I cried out frantically.
"Sharon! What happened to you? Please wake up," my hands fumbled with my phone as I tried to dial the ambulance.
Will I also lost my daughter too after losing my mother?
No way!
Twenty minutes later, an ambulance arrived and I watched as they placed her in a stretcher, while they attended to her, I tried to reach out to Ryan.
That was against my very wish.
I didn't want to be in close proximity with my ex husband.
But Shay was his daughter too.
"What had happened to her?" Ryan asked when he saw me.
He was dressed in his usual black slacks and shirt, his hair was trimmed low, that he wore a face cap.
"I don't know, the doctors are attending to her, I just hope it isn't serious." I answered him calmly.
"Haven't you been checking up on her? What do you mean by you do not know what is wrong with her?"
I flared, "Ryan, isn't she your daughter too? Why are you asking me such a question?" I queried him.
A doctor in white lab clothe stepped out from the emergency ward, took off his gloves and smiled when we both stopped to look at him.
"She is fine now. I feel she must have overworked herself herself. She needs more rest than ever. Get her more fruits and a lot of rest," the doctor explained.
"Thank you, doctor. Can we see her now?" Ryan asked.
"Yes, you can," he answered.
I rushed in before Ryan started with his note of gratitude to the doctor. Shay was already sitting up in her bed when I came into her ward.
"No, no, Shay. You need to lay on your back. The doctor said you overworked yourself," I said, reaching out to place her back to the bed.
Shay was looking at us both both as we hovered over her. She was dressed in a white top and trousers. When she looked down at herself, it made me feel that I was totally careless about my daughter's life.
What would have happened to her if Jennifer hadn't called and I'd not checked up on her in her house?
"Why am I here?" Shay asked, trying to push off my hands.
"You haven't been to work, Jennifer called and that pushed me to call you but you weren't picking. So, I'd to come straight to your house," I explained to her.
Shay gawked mysteriously at me, her eyes were rather unusually large. She scoffed time and again, touching her hospital wear like they were not meant to be on her body.
"I'm not supposed to be here. How did I get here?" Shay asked, looking back at us.
Ryan sat beside her, "your mother explained everything to you. I know this must come as a shock to you as it is to us."
I touched my daughter's face, dabbing at the corners of my eyes, "you gave me a fright, baby girl. What have I ever done wrong to have such a punishment?"
"Sheila, you need to stop with the act, thank goodness our daughter is alright and we'll, thanks to your negligence," Ryan spat.
That obviously raked me out, what was Ryan insinuating? that it was my fault?
"Don't give me that, Ryan! I obviously wouldn't have called you out here. You think I like you being here in my space!"
Shay pulled out the drip string from her hand, pushed us aside and started towards the window ignoring our quarell.
"Shay," I stopped midway, turning to notice that Shay wasn't even in her bed.
Shay turned back to us, "I saw Emilia, I saw granny," Shay said, a huge smile plastered on her face.
"Emilia?" I called out, glancing over at Ryan who had on a shocked expression
"Yes," Shay nodded, turning back to the window, "She is alive, healthy and well. She is the Sikeka of the Siuan tribe," Shay rambled on.
I paused, was Shay alright? Or had the fall in her home affected her memory? My mother was alive?
Hell no! We had her cremated, her remains stuck in the memorial hall. Definitely, Shay seem to be going nuts..
"Siuan tribe?" Ryan repeated, vague of any meaning that simply meant.
"Honey, Emilia died four months past...," I said, coming towards Shay.
"Four months!" She shrieked, "how long have I been gone?" Shay asked.
I looked over at Ryan again, something was wrong with Shay.
"From what I gathered, you have been away from work for a week." I told her, reaching her.
Shay fled from my hands, counting on her fingers and looking back at us clownishly, "A week! I've been in the Siuan tribe for merely three to four days," she laughed.
"Siuan? You met Emilia in Siuan?" Ryan stood up, coming close to Shay.
I was numb perhaps from pain but felt something was amiss.
Shay nodded, "and I was made a subordinate to Emilia, and I met ... a man, his name is Kai," her voice had suddenly softened.
I scoffed, "I need to get the doctor, they have a unfinished job! What the hell is she rambling about?" I asked, turning to the door.
"I'm fine mother, I'm fine! Remember the mirror that I told you about, that's where I got through to the Siuan tribe, that's where Emilia is."
I froze, turning to look back at Shay. The smile had never left her face.
"I want to return there mum, I think I need to talk to Kai." Shay said.
