Chapter 20 The arrival

A few days before...
In hospital...
The anguish that Marcus harbored in his being practically drowned him in bitterness, still sitting in the waiting chair in the corridor, next to the room where Antony was staying.
The truth was that the doctor was upset at not being able to go out and enjoy life as if there was no tomorrow.
His thoughts wandered to possibilities that hurt him even more, and I, as Destiny, will show you a little of what Marcus was thinking at that moment.
"And if I hadn't hit Antony, where would I be?
Marcus would have driven his car to the end of the avenue, and when he turned into a street on the left, he would have crashed into a truck, so he would have died.
He understood now that it was better for him to run over Antony, who was running away from a criminal, who many people, including me, would call a psychopath, and with all the reason in the world I would run away from him too.
So, even though Antony was wrong to cross the crosswalk when it wasn't clear for him, but for cars, he saved Marcus' life and consequently his own.
Both of their lives have always been connected by the thread of destiny, which I myself wove into it. I'd be lying if I said I didn't pull some strings to get my boys together.
Here was another possibility that Marcus had thought of.
What if I hadn't left the house?
He asked curiously, so to fulfill your wish I showed him what it would be like...
Marcus would be home, he'd just got out of the shower, he was starving, he'd been working practically all day, he hadn't stopped for a minute.
He just wanted to fall into bed and pass out, because he wouldn't sleep. He went to the kitchen to see if he could find anything edible, even though he hadn't been to the supermarket for days, if not months. Simple, he ate out every day, even though he was an excellent cook."
- Marcus - Carlos called out to him, bringing him out of his reverie - Fortunately, all is well with Antony's tests, but I'm still worried about him.
- Why is that?
- Because he told me he was running away from his client, he's a lawyer, he was defending Cauã, his cousin's ex-husband.
- Holy shit! - Marcus says, running his hands through his hair - Did he tell you why he was running away?
- No, he just told me he doesn't have a place to stay.
There the doctor found himself between a rock and a hard place: how was he going to solve this problem? He couldn't tell his cousin about Antony, that much he was sure of. As long as the lawyer didn't come back from his exams, Marcus had to think of something as quickly as possible.
The minutes dragged by slowly, while his thoughts swarmed with possibilities, but the only one he liked was to take him home, his own in this case.
He sat back down in the chair he had been in, he knew that Antony would be back as soon as possible, the main tests had already been done, he was just finishing taking blood for a check-up.
**
Marcus entered the house, darkness permeated the place, he groped the wall for the light switch so that he could illuminate the room.
Antony waited behind Marcus to enter his house, which from that moment on would be his too.
When the doctor told him that he would take him to his house, the lawyer didn't believe him at first, the truth was that every time he believed someone, that person stabbed him in the back.
He didn't know how he had fallen for Cauã's trick, but he certainly wouldn't believe anyone else, not even the doctor who had run him over.
- Welcome to my home. - Marcus said, making way for Antony to enter.
When he saw the apartment Marcus lived in, his was practically a kitnett, the living room was huge, with a 60-inch television, and a leather sofa, it made Antony's eyes light up, despite the minimalist decor, he loved it, no, he loved everything.
While Marcus didn't stop talking for a second, An traveled in his thoughts, how had he ended up there? The question kept running through his mind.
The only thing that bothered him was not being able to go back to his house, he was afraid of going back and running into Cauã, and what he might do to him.
Antony felt protected there, standing next to the person who had hit him, who was actually his savior.
He could have had a much worse fate, he wondered if someone else had hit him, if his life would have been different because of it.
An was thinking too much, not paying attention to anything around him. The lawyer shook his head to clear it.
- Don't tell me you didn't hear a word I said?
Marcus asked, crossing his arms.
- How do you know?
Antony asks innocently, as if the shake of his head hadn't given him away. Marcus looks at him as if he were an et in front of him and not the man who gave him such a headache.
- You gave yourself away by shaking your head like a wet dog.
They both burst out laughing at the phrase the doctor had just said.
