Chapter 18

Various emotions played within Kith as he sat in his swivel chair, holding a brown envelope. He was a mess, feeling guilty and sad about his actions the previous years when he had admitted his role in the destruction of their friendship. With gritted teeth, he recalled the painful memory of that night and flung the envelope into the air, scattering the white papers.
As his secretary entered, she picked up the scattered papers without prying into their contents, then respectfully left. Kith felt a perverse sense of satisfaction for finally physically hurting Theron. He had unleashed the intensity of his anger, using the martial arts skills he had learned in Taekwondo, although he was frustrated that Theron hadn't fought back.
Theron had only blocked his blows, and the events from yesterday, especially Theron's claim on his lips, lingered in his mind. He sighed and rose from his swivel chair, relieved that his secretary hadn't placed the envelope on his desk to avoid another impulse to throw it.
Kith paced around, trying to clear his thoughts. He couldn't help but think about Theron's lips, which had pressed erotically against his. It was a craving he couldn't ignore, and Kith was hungry for that kind of affection.
He let out a sigh and picked a red rose from a fresh bouquet sent by an employee from another department. It was an old hobby he cherished. He played the "He loves me, he loves me not" game, murmuring to himself as he plucked the petals.
As the results came in, he wasn't surprised to find "He loves me not." It had always been the outcome whenever he played this love game, and it was a constant disappointment for him.
Frustration built up, and he clenched his fist, experiencing anger he hadn't felt during the game before. He was on the brink of smashing a glass circle table in his office when his phone rang, interrupting his anger. The call from his brother, Noam, surprised him.
He rarely spoke with his brother, so this call intrigued him. Maybe Noam missed him or had something important to discuss. Kith took a deep breath before answering the call, not sure how to start the conversation.
"I heard you sighing," Noam said on the other end.
"Did you call me?" Kith asked with a hint of coldness.
"I just want to seek a piece of advice."
Kith thought, What's wrong with this man?
"From me? Hey big bro, are you kidding?" Why would Noam seek advice from him when their father was better suited for such matters?
"She wants to break up with me," Noam said, his voice filled with sadness.
"She?" Kith feigned surprise, well aware of Noam's long-time girlfriend. It seemed like a pattern in his brother's relationships.
"It hurts, but it's not forever," Kith offered. "You deserve someone better. I've told you multiple times to try dating a Filipina. You always go for international babes. Come on, you've been fighting for your relationship, but she hasn't fought for you. If she wants to leave, let her go, but make sure she finds her happiness elsewhere."
"She wants to break up with me," Noam repeated.
Kith thought carefully before responding, "A breakup is the inevitable end. Prepare yourself because that's where it's headed. Let her go. Letting her go doesn't mean you don't love her. Sometimes, love means setting someone free. If she's no longer happy with you, help her find her joy."
As Kith spoke, memories from his own past resurfaced, and his words seemed drawn from his personal experiences. He swiveled his chair, contemplating thoughts that had suddenly occupied his mind. He wasn't sure why thoughts of Theron and Syd had come back to him.
"Little bro? Still there?" Noam's voice brought Kith back to reality, and he put his phone down, as if in a trance.
He spun his chair to face the visitor he had sensed, and there stood Theron, impeccably dressed in a suit. Theron was undeniably attractive, and Kith felt a surge of desire. Theron greeted him with a smile and entered the office.
Kith stood up and offered a handshake, which Theron accepted. The physical contact sent a shiver through Kith's body, and he didn't protest when Theron didn't let go. He was tempted to give in to the mischief in his heart.
Theron, however, eventually withdrew his hand and apologized, seemingly unaware of Kith's intentions. Kith invited him to sit, unable to find words, even though he was the company's president.
"Meet me at Drawbridge tonight," Kith finally said. "I have another offer for you. I'm not sure if you'll accept."
Theron nodded. Kith watched Theron leave with a smile on his face, feeling relieved. It had been two years, but he was still Theron's favorite and perfect dinner companion. Theron was sweet, and Kith's tears, this time, were tears of joy.
