58: Stefano
Chapter 58
My head is aching. My vision is blurry. My ears are ringing.
Fuck. What the hell happened?
I am physically unstable, but managed to force my eyes to open and scan wherever the fuck I am.
“Took you a while to wake up.” I turned and saw Patrick standing.
I scoffed. “Crazy bastard. You really did blow up the station?”
“That’s why you’re here.”
“Jokes on you, they’ll find me soon.”
He chuckled, the most irritating thing he does. “The question is whether they’ll find you alive or dead.”
“If there’s anyone dying, it's you.”
“You haven’t changed. You still think you’re all mighty and powerful.”
“Am I not? Isn’t that why you’ve always been jealous of the things I have? Because you don’t have any of them. Money, power… family.”
Patrick’s face immediately turned grim. This is where people usually say they fucked up, but not in my case. As much as I am in danger right now, whatever I say won’t kill me.
Or maybe I could be wrong.
But I said what I said.
Patrick walked towards me and violently pulled me up by the collar.
“Why? Just because you have all that doesn’t mean you have a better life than me. Your life is fucked up as mine.”
I smirked. “I’m fucked up rich.”
“Why? Because you’re a Harris?”
“Probably. But now, I just had something you will never have. A son.”
Patrick started laughing hysterically as he released his grip on my shirt. I was confused, but his laughter made me more angry. It’s just so irritating to hear.
“What did you just say? A son?” He continued laughing. “Really? You call yourself a father? Also…” He walked towards me with a grin on his face, which made me more agitated. “Is he really your son?”
This time, I’m the one who’s grabbing his collar. I know, and I am fully aware, that he successfully triggered all of my buttons.
And I know, I’m giving him what he wants by reacting like this.
“Say that once again and I’ll rip that filthy mouth of yours.”
He smirked, and I hated it. “I’m just asking. It’s been years… you’ll never know.”
I took a deep breath, trying so hard not to punch him. After contemplating for a few seconds, I released his collar and stepped back.
“What do you really want from me? If you wanted me dead, you could have killed me while I was out. What? Do you want to torture me alive?”
“What is torture if you’re dead anyways?”
I sat back to the chair I was sitting on earlier and crossed my legs as I looked up at Patrick.
Sometimes I wonder, how did we end up here?
“So? Was I really the reason why you’re back in Casterdale? You came back, to what? Destroy my life by threatening my son’s life?”
“I was the one,” he calmly mumbled.
“What?”
“I was the one who was there! When she left you — when you abandoned her! When she had Noah. I was the one who was there! Basically… I was the one who raised Noah, not you! You didn’t even know of his existence not until she came back!”
“Then why do you think she came back running to me, begging me to protect our son? After hiding him for 10 years, she chose to come back and bring him to me. Why? Because of you!” I stood up. “You’re willing to hurt Noah just to have Veronica in your possession! You’re obsessed — always have been! Do you think I didn’t know?”
“You knew all along, but still —”
“But still dated her?” I abruptly interrupted him. “How is that my fault? Do I have to adjust everything for you?!”
“You were always like that, Stefano. Selfish.”
“Selfish? How is that selfish?! You never made yourself clear to her! I liked her even before I found out about your feelings! We were talking even before you showed interest in her!” I slowly stepped forward. “Or maybe you never liked her. You just want to compete against me. Because that’s how you always have been. You see me as a competitor. Not a friend.”
“You’re the one who doesn’t see me as a friend! You’re always selfish! Isn’t that why your sister experienced that shit in the US?! If you didn’t leave her that night then that wouldn’t have happened! You put people around you in danger, including Veronica and Noah!”
My hands are starting to tremble. His words are slowly starting to get into me.
“I don’t really get why you’re doing all of this. Noah… is a child who doesn’t deserve to experience this! I get it if you hate me, or Veronica, but Noah? What did the child ever do to you?!”
“Nothing. But he’s your weakness.” He grinned. “Stefano Harris finally has a weakness. Would I miss the chance? Never.”
I scoffed. “How… low can you go? Using a child against me?”
“Whatever I’m doing is not even half of what they can do. If I worry you… then just imagine the horrors they could bring you.”
“They? Who the fuck —”
A loud banging from outside stopped both of us.
I guess the hunt is over.
Patrick suddenly tackled me, and we started fighting each other.
Punching.
Kicking.
Rolling.
Damn it! Why are they taking so long to enter this fucking building?!
“Everything is because of you!” Patrick shouted.
I stood straight while panting hard. “It’s always about me, nothing new.” I shook my head. “You’re no better anyways. So, why don’t we just stop?”
“Even if I do, they won’t. Your end isn’t even near yet.”
“Who the fuck are they? You keep mentioning — fuck!” He attacked me once again, catching me off guard.
Minutes felt like hours due to this endless fight.
I still can’t understand why all of this is happening, but all that is clear to me is that I have to end it to protect Noah… and Emily.
