Chapter 3 MY FAIRYTALE WAS A HOAX

My class ended. I was about to walk out the door when I saw Ian outside while holding a white rose. Could it be for me? I can’t believe what I’m seeing right now. He looks so handsome, If that rose was for me I would definitely faint.
I went outside and I stood there waiting. Funny, It’s like he didn’t see me. I was about to approach him when he followed a girl that was walking towards me in the hallway. He gave her the rose!
Okay, rose or no rose I could faint at any moment when I saw the most heart breaking scene that my eyes could ever had laid upon. My heart shattered. I could hear my heart beating softly as if it was the last beat that it could make. But wait, she ignored him? She didn’t accept the rose? What?!. In confusion I approached Damien and I asked about what I saw.
‘Hey, I saw you with that girl. Ahm is there any possibility that I could ask?’ I said, barely looking at him ‘What?’ He uttered. ‘No, Ahm of course, what am I even talking about! I mean it’s not like I had to know everything. It’s okay if you don’t want to talk about it’ ‘No it’s not that. It’s just’ He said while looking at the rose. ‘I was at that door the whole time, didn’t you saw me?’I pointed ‘No I didn’t’ he replied
‘Oh’ I said in a disappointed voice. ‘I’m sorry, I didn’t know Mr. Hampton’s would be moved to another room’ He looked at me with those brown eyes of his. I was in a new dimension. I was lost in his eyes, It felt like I was floating.
‘No, It’s okay no biggy’ I said while looking at his eyes, smiling. He noticed that I was looking at the rose that he was holding in his right hand – his soft beautiful hands. I looked at him and with no hesitation he gave me the rose and said
‘This rose is too beautiful to throw away’ He said sadly. My eyes widened when I saw him getting close to me and held my hand. He wanted me to have the rose instead. ‘Keep the rose, it matches your dress’ he said What? he gave me the rose! I could pass out in any second! ‘You know if you really wanted to know more things about me let’s talk about it over lunch that way you can know me better and I can know you better’ He added.
I could barely feel my feet when he said he wanted to know me better. I wasn’t able to speak so I just nodded. We headed to the cafeteria and got a table for the both of us. We talked about our hobbies, our likes and dislikes. And can you even imagine, he likes pink. Yeah I know it’s a cute color for some but for me? I hated it so much. But, Ian likes the color so how bad could it be?
As we were talking about ourselves and getting to know each other, I noticed something. There was a girl who was two tables away from us that was constantly looking at me and I was getting weirded-out and a little nervous. I asked Ian if he knew that girl since he sort of know everyone in campus. When he looked at the girl the smile on his face disappeared.
‘Are you okay? Is something wrong?’ I asked him
‘No nothing – nothing’s wrong that girl over there is Brianna Goudy’ He replied ‘She’s –- my ex–girlfriend What?! His ex–girlfriend?!. I know I recognize her face somewhere. Oh! Right, I remember now. She was the one who Damien wanted to give the rose to, who ignored him in the hallway.
She’s so beautiful. I’m nothing compared to her! I sigh as I was looking at her blonde silky hair, her perfect figure, her smile, the dimples she makes whenever she smile and having someone like Damien who loved her? How could I ever compete with her? I’m no one. I was curious so I asked him why they broke up.
‘Well, She said she wanted to think so I gave her space but I didn’t knew that she would replace me for someone “Much better” than me. Beck Roman the football player. She made it official last summer that it was over between us. But I still love her you know, even if she did that to me.’ He shed a single tear and wiped it immediately. ‘I’m sorry’ I said sadly ‘Why are you saying sorry Emma?’ he asked in a concerned voice
I never should have asked him that question I didn’t mean to make him cry. He told me to look at him and said that it was okay. ‘It’s good that I have a friend like you to talk to about things that bother me’ then he gave me a cute smirk. ‘No!’ I stood up everyone was looking at me I never knew my voice was that loud. I comosed myself and sat down immediately, trying to take back what I said as I noticed him being raddled by what I did ‘Ahm no, not just a friend… bestfriend’ after I said those words I held out my hand for a handshake. We stared at each other for 5 seconds and giggled. Everything was perfect but my big mouth made a serious mistake.
‘If you still love her I could help you win her back!’
Those words were still echoing in my mind. Ahg! Why did I even say that?! WHY?! They’re not together! This was your chance! Emma you’re so lame! I could see Damien staring at me and wondering why I said that. I didn’t pay any attention to what he was saying just now. I saw him standing up and with no hesitations I pulled him back down and said
‘Well, it’s obvious that she still likes you. Just give it a shot. I’ll help you’ he sigh and said ‘But I already told you I ...’ before he got to finish his sentence I shushed him ‘Shhhh, I got this’ then gave him a little wink ‘Well if that’s what you really want. Okay’
Okay? He said okay? Oh no is this really happening? I would have to do anything to get my dream guy and Brianna back together again? Ahg! How did I put myself into this? Well maybe I felt pity for him because I saw him crying because of her and besides he already said that he still loves her so when will I ever be in the picture?
We finished our lunch and spent the rest of the afternoon studying, separately. After the long day of school I remembered the competition Ian was talking about. I got my bag and went to the auditorium and there I saw him, dancing his heart out. He looked so happy as he teaches the students the steps to the choreography. I walked slowly to the bleachers and sat down as I admire him from a distant. They were half way through the practice when he saw me and told them to take a quick break. He then rushed up to me. Oh just look at him with the wind rushing into his hair and his smile. God! His smile looks like a first sunrise at the beach; like it came down from heaven. As he got to me he asked ‘You just got here?’ while brushing his hair up and wiping of his sweat from his neck. I quickly stood up and said ‘No, just 5 minutes ago.’ He quickly grabbed my hand and pulled me as we walked down the stairs. ‘Well, you’re not able to see the best choreo at that angle you need to be in the front.’
When we got down I could see some of my seniors staring at us then suddenly someone loudly asked. ‘Is she your girlfriend?.’ Everyone was patiently waiting for a reply when I pulled away from Damien’s grip on my hand and said. ‘No, we’re just best friends’. They didn’t looked convinced at what I said when another senior shouted ‘Hey, that’s where it all starts!’
I blushed when I heard Damien giggle a little as the students were practically shipping the two of us. ‘Okay, now don’t torment my friend here. We’re just good friends, nothing more’
Well for him, that’s that but I want something more. He grabbed a chair for me to seat on and asked if I could critic on their dance. ‘But, I’m not a dancer.’ ‘Just watch and say if you liked it. That’s all you need to do.’
He went to them and gave additional instructions before going on with their choreography when a male senior went up to put back his tumbler in his bag which was right beside me. Before he could go back he said as he was standing beside me ‘Hey, you know for all I noticed about Damien when you’re around him. I could tell that he’s totally into you.’ I looked up at him and asked ‘And how are you so sure.’ He shrugged as he said ‘then he wouldn’t call my name and ask me to go to my position just so I can’t get close to you.’ my eyes widened as I heard Damien shout ‘Jake! Go back to your position!’ I immediately turned to jake when he said ‘Enjoy the performance Damien’s best friend’ while making air quotes the second he said best friend.
They began dancing and I have got to say that Damien took this seriously. The choreography was perfect and was fun to watch. There were so many unexpected moves and exhibition that you will seriously hold your breath to. The second they’re done I stood up from my seat and applauded them. ‘I could see the champions already.’
Damien told them to go home and get some rest as they still need to practice more just to be sure. They all said their goodbye and even to me. As I was getting my bag Damien uttered ‘Thanks for stopping by and for letting us know what you think about the choreography’ I smiled at him and replied ‘I told you, I wouldn’t miss it and plus they were wonderful; very talented so is their mentor. I really had fun.’
‘Wanna grab some ice cream before we head home? I know this great ice scream shop its just 5 blocks away from school and...’ I cut him short and told him that I can’t because I need to go home to finish my assignments. He paused and suggested if we could just go home together. As we walked out of the campus we instantly stopped and looked at each other as we took our next step to opposite sides. ‘Seems we’re not walking home together after all.’ Damien said sadly. ‘I guess not.’ He handed me my books that he offered to carry and said ‘Well, see you tomorrow song bird’ then we waved good bye to each other. He went left and I went right - total opposites.
