Chapter 94

Third-Person's POV
Three knocks on the front door interrupted Lucas, who was working on his laptop in the living room. He frowned as he wondered who was outside at around two o'clock in the afternoon when he was not expecting anyone that day. It had been a month since they moved into that house and only a few trustworthy people knew that location.
He concluded it was their cleaner, but she had already gone there to clean the other day. He had no choice but to check who it was because they didn't have a servant around after he sent her and the driver to get their groceries.
He went to the front door. When he was a few steps away from the door, the person outside tried knocking again. Lucas opened the door and his eyes widened when he saw who was outside.
A short silence went in between the two. He could not believe he would be seeing her again after visiting the Philippines a few months ago. He couldn't hide how much he was captivated by how much she had changed since then, and because Elyana hadn't bothered herself to put on makeup that day, her natural beauty shone through perfectly in his eyes.
"I'm sorry for coming without notice. I just came here to see Helen." Elyana was the one who broke the silence because she couldn't stand the awkwardness she was getting with the way Lucas stared at her.
But the man in front of her couldn't utter a single word after she said those words with so much coldness.
"Is she there?" Elyana asked when he couldn't answer. Every word was like a knife stabbing his chest because he felt he was a total stranger to the woman in front of him, but nothing was more hurtful than seeing Elyana's eyes without any trace of affection towards him anymore when he looked into them.
"Y-yes, she's inside. Come in," Lucas casually answered, trying to hide his pain at that time. He didn't immediately notice Elyana had company.
Felipe followed Elyana in, carrying two of the most loved things by Helen; a box of sunflowers they bought in the Philippines and the expensive medium-sized porcelain vase Marietta asked her daughter to bring to the sick lady.
Lucas and Felipe's eyes met. Felipe's new appearance didn't fool Lucas's eyes. He knew who he was—it was the gay who humiliated him before, with one thing he lacked in life, and seeing the matchmaker that day was a hard slap in the face for him, but he tried ignoring them because the two seemed to be there to see his dying mother.
He led them into a spacious room. The walls were all made of glass, allowing the light to freely enter. It was overlooking a river and a garden with a bunch of flowering plants. Such a perfect place to relax anyone's mind and for someone who only wants to escape the busy and noisy city life.
Helen, who was resting at that time, heard that they had visitors. She didn't expect it was her they came to see.
"E-Ellie," she called Elyana after seeing her.
Her weak voice pierced Elyana's heart. It stayed as sweet as it was, but seeing her into that bed with so much weight she lost and dark circles around her eyes made her shed tears before she even came closer to her.
"I-I'm glad to see you, Helen." Elyana's voice was shaking.
Lucas called the nurse to have a snack in the kitchen as an excuse so that the two would have alone time. Felipe had no choice but to leave as well. He followed Lucas into the garden to give the two alone time.
The air outside was cold because the autumn season was already starting that month, October. Lucas slid his hands inside his pants pocket after he forgot to wear a thicker jacket before going out, but he thought it was not the perfect timing to go back in, especially since he would lose a chance to have a one-on-one talk with the person he had been secretly hating for being Elyana's so-called best friend.
To add to that, he had been receiving news regarding the two that had been pissing him off so much whenever he remembered.
"I can't believe you changed yourself," Lucas said when he heard the footsteps behind him already halted. He turned around to face him and with the distance they had, he could see him. It was enough for him to look at him from head to toe, trying to find anything that he could label as his defect, but he failed to find one, which only added to the reason for him to get mad.
Felipe saw what he did. He straightened his back even more to show his beautiful body, which was far from Lucas's current build after he gained a little weight and his stomach was a bit protruding due to frequent drinking.
"Me too—"
"Oh wow! You even changed your voice?" Lucas was surprised by his baritone voice, which was even fuller compared to his. "D*mn! What else changed? Don't tell me you dislike men now and you're into women," he added with a hint of insult.
Felipe was aware of how irritated he was. The way he reacted and talked was enough to prove that.
He tried to remain calm to avoid an argument by looking into the distance for a moment and taking a few seconds of pause before answering his parade of questions.
"Frankly, I think I'm quite close to that or maybe I am already," he replied.
He turned to face Lucas, wanting to see how he would react to what he was about to say. "I honestly enjoy being this—a man now and a father to my son. I feel I'm so much appreciated by the people around me when I decided to change and believe it or not, the number of clients I've been receiving lately has been growing too fast. Not to brag, but I have enough earnings and savings to start my own family—that is if my son's mother would agree."
Lucas stiffened with what he heard. He clenched both of his fists when he felt so much anger inside him that roused. If only he could throw a punch; he already did, but his sick mother could see the place where they were standing.
Even if he wanted to answer with something to show his disapproval, he knew it would go nowhere. There was no point in him acting recklessly because he knew how the two get along well and how Elyana's parents favor what the two have. They already have a child who deserves a complete family and that was something he would never give to her, no matter how much money he spent on it.
The thought of those made him feel tired deep inside. He knew he was the reason it went to where they were now. He was the one who failed her and Felipe had nothing to do with that. If he would put those aside, he had to be thankful to him instead; he was the one who was there when he needed someone—he was there when he hurt her.
Because of those, he tried calming himself down. He let out a heavy sigh before uttering his response, "I'm wishing you the best of luck."
It was a short message, but it had a big impact on their lives. Lucas, who felt defeated, gave Felipe a pat on the shoulder before leaving him there to prepare something for their guest to eat. He went straight into the kitchen, where the nurse was already preparing some snacks and drinks for everyone.
The nurse was giving him a strange look because Lucas seemed to be unwell. It was evident in her eyes how scared she was to ask, giving him glances from time to time.
