Vol 2 Chapter 2 Darkness of the Mind #4

Dawn broke over lascot. Jackson arrives at the training grounds for an early start; after some time of warming up and training for over an hour, Jake is still waiting to be seen.
Jackson: “Huh, he’s never late for training for the past few months…I feel like something’s off.”
Jackson then flies to Jake’s house. Arriving at his house, Jackson knocks on Jake’s door.
Jackson: “You in there, Jake? Helllooooo.”
Jake opened the door slightly; He was coughing.
Jake: “Oh…hey….Jackson….I’m….sorry…not feeling well….today….maybe…tomorrow…either way….don’t come near me…or you might….catch it…bye.”
Jake shuts the door, locking it.
Jackson: “Ooookaay…?”
Jackson began speculating about Jake acting weird lately but didn’t overthink it. Jackson returned to the training grounds alone with the whole day to himself. After Jackson left, Jake sat at the front door, tired and sweating excessively. Jake slowly stood up, grabbing onto anything to prevent him from falling; he went to his bedroom. With every step, Jake felt fatigued and in pain. Getting to his room, Jake fell as he lost his balance. Jake pushed himself up, grabbing onto the foot of the bed with his left arm, and then Jake moved his right arm to hold onto the bed to pull himself up. As he placed his right arm on the bed, he saw how much the dark spots had grown; almost half of it was covered entirely. Jake was worried but did not care what was happening to him; he crawled and got onto the bed. He lay down, breathing heavily, closing his eyes, hoping everything was just a dream.
A few hours later, Jake’s phone began to ring. He opened his eyes, slowly turning his head to the left side. Jake grabs his phone; it is his reminder for his night hunting. Jake turns off the notification, closes his eyes, and takes a deep breath. He pulls off the sheet and raises his right arm. His arm is back to normal. Jake sighed in relief; he started getting out of bed, changing clothes, and putting on the mask. Jake took on the hero of the night persona yet again; Jake took one last look at his right hand before leaving his house. Scanning the areas of whichever Jake flew by, he took down any criminals he could find. His killing spree had begun. Gangs were wiped out from left to right, and criminals were being killed swiftly without a trace left behind. After circling the globe and eliminating most criminals, Jake flies back to Lascot; Jake stops by a 7-Eleven to get some snacks and coffee as he is tired due to the increase in his metabolism from flying and fighting. Jake removed the lower part of his mask and sat down to eat what he had bought; he chugged down two cans of coffee to keep him awake for the night. When he was done, Jake was suddenly surrounded by a massive gang of thugs, thieves and cold-blooded murderers.
Jake: “I don’t know how I missed you all, but I’ll make this quick and painless.”
The gang members charged towards Jake. With a hatred that he was only strong with his powers, He decides to face the gang members without them. Dodging slashes and swings, Jake quickly knocks out anyone if an opening is given. Jake trips one of the gang members to fall; he then grabs the person’s leg and uses him as a weapon, swinging the person around, hitting a few members before slamming the guy onto the ground and smashing his head. Some of the gang members witnessed the gruesome death and began vomiting. Others who weren’t affected continued rushing Jake. Jake just kept killing, with each death far worse than the previous one, from crushing skulls to pulling them apart. Lastly, no one was left; the street was filled with corpses, and it was a bloodbath. Jake’s hands were stained with the blood of his enemies. Jake looked at his stained hands, asking himself if his actions were proper. Out of nowhere, Jake heard a gunshot from behind; Jake moved away just in time. Although the triceps of his right arm were hit, Jake prevented any vital organs from being damaged as he was not using any powers to shield himself. Jake mimics metal manipulation to help him pull out the bullet from his wound. Jake looked behind him, and he saw a kid in tears, scared. The boy was holding the gun that shot Jake. The boy aimed at Jake again, crying and pulling the trigger, firing several shots. Jake grabs a body on the ground to use it as a shield. The boy at last ran out of ammunition; Jake dropped the body and ran towards the kid; the kid tried to run but was outpaced by Jake. He grabs the gun from the child and throws the boy aside. He then crushes the firearm.
???: “Kill the boy.”
Jake slowly walked towards the boy, grabbing him by the neck and lifting him off the ground. The boy kept struggling and crying. Jake remained still, hesitating himself.
???: “Kill the boy.”
Jake: “But…”
???: “You’ve already murdered so many bad guys. What’s one more going to do?”
Jake: “But he’s just a kid.”
???: “It does not matter, Jake, he’s a part of a criminal gang. If you leave him, he’ll grow up and try to take revenge on you. And you would take his life when the time comes. You would still be taking his life either way. So, kill him now.”
Jake slowly raises his arm, ready to kill the boy in one single punch. Before the boy could be killed, his left arm was cut by a flying metal disc, and Jake screamed in pain. The Jackson comes flying in, pushing Jake, knocking him to the side for quite a distance, causing Jake to be at death’s door after the blow.
Jackson: “Are you okay, kid?”
The boy nodded his head. After confirming, Jackson walks towards the hero of the night.
Jackson: “I don’t know who you are, but this has got to stop. You have caused a bloodbath of criminals already, and now you are going after a little kid. You are more of a cold-blooded murderer than a hero.”
Jake began spewing blood; he had no other choice but to sacrifice some of his life essence in exchange for energy to fuel his body. Jake rapidly healed himself from his sustained injuries. He then mimics light manipulation; he focuses a small amount of light on his palm and releases it at Jackson, blinding him for a while. Jake took the opportunity to flee the scene, flying away as fast and far as possible.
