With the cool breeze blowing through the air and the sun setting on the horizon, Jake and Jackson clinked their beer bottles together, enjoying the Friday evening view on Jake’s rooftop. Jake: “Did my master try to pull me out from the Gates of Verklempt?” Jackson: “Hell yeah, he was. When I arrived, I saw your master sitting in front of the gates; his face had that worried look. I went to his side and asked him what he was doing. Before he could answer, he asked how I got here, so I said a portal was left open. Your master then shakes his head in disappointment; after that, he answers my question, stating that you were there longer than anyone else. He said there was a limit to three days in there; after that, you risk it trapping you forever.” Jake: “So, was there another reason for me being able to stay there longer than the limit?” Jackson: “Your master did say it might be because the Gates of Verklempt wishes to see the outcome. I think neither of us were sure what was the reason. But you’re back now, so it’s not concerning anymore.” After finishing their beers, Jake and Jackson gathered the empty bottles in a bag and threw them away. Jackson says his goodbye before going back to the church. On the other hand, Jake returned to his house to grab his resume, which he had made back then. Jake wore nice clothing and flew toward Downtown Landford to find a job. Jake landed on a place unnoticeable and began walking down the shops. Jake saw a bunch of opportunities as most of the shops were short-staffed. At the corner of his eye, Jake found an automobile repair shop. There was a poster saying help wanted. Jake went inside to check the place out and was greeted by a mechanic. Mechanic: “Good evening, sir; you have a car problem?” Jake: “No, I don’t own a car.” The mechanic looked down at Jake’s hand, seeing him holding some documents, he instantly knew what Jake wanted. Mechanic: “Oh, you want to apply for a job here?” Jake: “Yeah, how did you know?” Mechanic: “Well, you were holding some documents and said you don’t own a car. Plus, the shop’s hiring.” Jake: “May I know whom I should speak to for an interview or arrangement?” Mechanic: “You can speak to my boss. He’s right in his office. Good luck.” Jake: “Thanks.” Jake walks towards the office, his hands sweating ever so slightly. Jake knocks on the door before entering the room. Jake: “Good evening, Mister. I saw the job post outside, and I wish to apply for a job here.” Boss: “I see; take a seat, kid. So, introduce yourself.” Jake: “My name is Norman Tan, but you can call me Norman; I’m 18, and….” The room went silent as Jake did not have much to introduce about himself. Jake grew nervous and anxious. The boss saw Jake’s state and began a conversation to lessen the awkwardness. Boss: “So, what school are you currently studying at, or are you taking a break?” Jake: “I’m taking a break due to personal events.” Boss: “Like?” Jake: “I got kicked out of XiWang University because I stood up against a bully, and what’s worst was the bully being the son of the man who made the University.” Boss: “And?” Jake: “And I got into a night school in the area here, near where I worked as a Barista. But that place was soon trashed due to a mutation outbreak. All the students and teachers there were all monsters.” Boss: “Oh, you mean that burnt place.” Jake: “Yea…” Boss: “I see, so you’re taking a break from school?” Jake: “Yeah. I’m just trying to find a job to support some of my needs. And to not waste time at home doing nothing.” Boss: “A hard-working kid, I see…Do you have any working experience before?” Jake: “I worked as a Barista before and as a cashier at a gas station near me back then.” Boss: “I see. Seeing your resume, I would say it’s quite okay; I don’t see why I can’t hire you. Okay then, that’ll be the end of the interview.” Jake: “Did I get the job, Mister?” Mr. Jones: “You can call me Mr. Jones. And yes, you start on Monday; Work will be Monday to Friday, your pay will be 1500 a month, performance will affect any pay increments, and training will be provided. ” Jake stood up and shook his boss’ hand, showing gratitude. Jake thanked his boss and exited the office; Jake celebrated quietly as he managed to land a job. The mechanic saw Jake’s excitement and walked towards Jake to congratulate him on his success in landing the job. Jake walks outside but is stopped by the mechanic. Mechanic: “Hey, kid, I didn’t catch your name back there.” Jake: “My name is Norman Tan, but you can call me Norman.” Matthew: “Matthew.” Jake: “Hope to see you on Monday, Matthew. I have so much to learn from you.” Matthew: “Ha, see you on Monday, kid.” Jake leaves the workshop happily. Walking down the sidewalk, Jake ensured no one was nearby and flew back to his house. Jake arrived home and quickly went to shower; after that, he looked around for a notebook. Once he found one, he wrote down what he wanted to do with the money when he got paid after drafting down his goals. Jake places down the pencil and gets on his bed, calling it a day of self-achievement. Meanwhile, back at the automobile workshop. Mr. Jones looks through Jake's resume again; looking at the photo, he wonders if he has seen him before. Mr. Jones then went out of his office with the resume to ask his son about it. Mr. Jones: "Hey, Matthew. Come have a look at this kid's resume." Matthew: "Sure, Dad." Mr. Jones: "Doesn't this kid look familiar to you." Matthew: "He kinda looks like the kid during the incident that happened not long ago." Mr. Jones: "When the broadcast happened right?" Matthew: "Yeah. But I'm not so sure, maybe I can ask my brother about this kid if he had seen him before."
