Vol 2 Chapter 3 Breakneck #3

Matthew drives home all while the sun is setting. Breathing a sigh of relief that he had left unharmed. Stopping by a gas station to refuel, Mathew went into the store to grab some snacks, as he had not eaten anything that evening.
The bell hung on the door rang. A mysterious, tall figure in a dark trench coat walks into the store. After Matthew was done paying, he accidentally bumped into the towering figure; he apologised before leaving the store. The figure did not reply. He stared at Matthew from within the store to get into his car.
Matthew started his engine and continued his way back home. During the drive, Matthew kept having an unexplainable feeling, but…felt disturbed by it. He began looking around, fearing what was going to happen. He then sees something in his rear-view mirror; he cannot determine what it is; he can only guess that another car is behind him.  At first, Matthew did not give it much thought, but after a few minutes of driving, the vehicle was still behind him. He then leaves the first exit at the roundabout, and the car still silently follows. Matthew began to grow anxious.
Matthew took unnecessary turns in hopes that the car was not following him. No matter how many roads he took, the car followed him. Matthew had enough and stepped on the pedal with full force, driving as fast as he could, trying to get away from the car, but to no avail; the car managed to catch up to him. Matthew’s patience slowly decays, and he parks his car near the side. He then gets out to confront the driver. Before he could get near the vehicle, the car door opened, and the exact figure seen at the gas station got out of it. At that moment, Matthew had already knew he messed up. Leaving the car, he activated his speedster powers and ran away; he looked behind him occasionally to ensure he could escape.
He ran for minutes, maybe even an hour. He still did not stop running. He ran across town till the point where he was for sure far enough. Matthew stops to catch his breath; he looks behind him, relieved that he is no longer followed. His relief soon disappeared. Matthew felt odd that the figure did not go back in his car to chase after him as if the figure wanted him to run away. Before he could make his next move, he was grabbed by the neck, lifted from the ground and pulled close. The figure places a cloth onto the face of his struggling victim. Matthew’s movement slowed down. Then, it stopped altogether. The figure placed Matthew on his shoulder and walked far, leaving no trace behind.
The sun rose, bringing a new day to the world. Jake woke up, preparing himself for another day of work; he also brought his laptop to study when he was having his break. He once again flies towards the Downtown Landford and continues his journey on foot to the workshop. Arriving at the workshop, he went to store his bag in a locker in the break room when he was suddenly shot in the neck by a tranquilliser; Jake lost consciousness immediately, falling to the ground. His boss, Mr. Jones, closed all the shutters, locking them. He then went back to the room and dragged Jake to a chair; he then tied him up, making sure he could not escape.
Moments passed, and Jake was woken up by smelling salts. Jake wakes up, coughing and tearing up by the overwhelming smell of household cleaner.
Jake: “Where am I? Why am I tied up?”
Mr. Jones: “Do no resist, the rope will get tighter the more you struggle.”
Mr. Jones turns away from Jake, taking part from a table and putting them together.
Jake: “Are you an alien? Were you pretending to be human so you could capture me...Man, these ropes are tight.”
Mr. Jones calmly approaches Jake and, in his hand, holds a makeshift pistol.
Jake: “Why do you have a gun?”
Mr. Jones pulls the gun up, pointing it between Jake’s eyes.
Mr. Jones: “I will give you one chance to confess. Before I pull the trigger.”
Jake: “First of all, the bullet that’s gonna be fired out of that thing ain’t enough to kill me. Second of all, what the fuck did I do?”
Mr. Jones: “Even if this bullet doesn’t kill you. The mercury inside will. Now tell me what you have done to my son, Matthew.”
Jake: “Matthew? I thought he went home. I haven’t seen him since he used his powers and tried to use the brain neuralyzer on me.”
Mr. Jones: “Why can you just tell me the truth.”
Mr. Jones fires a bullet at the ground near Jake.
Mr. Jones: “Please, don’t make me do this. Just tell me…Tell me, where’s my son.”
Jake: “I don’t know. I already told you I hadn't seen him after he ran off. But I can tell you, I did nothing to him.”
Mr. Jones’ hands started shaking briefly; the thought of one of his sons overwhelmed him, and tears began dripping down his eyes. Mr. Jones's index finger was on the trigger; he was ready to pull it. At that exact moment, Jarvis jumps into the conversation.
Jarvis: “Stop.”
Mr Jones: “Who’s that?”
Jarvis: “I’m the watch. And I can prove that Jake had done nothing to your son.”
Mr. Jones: “And how do you plan on proving his innocence?”
Jarvis opens up a recording, displaying a hologram to the front for them to see.
Jake: “You had a recording system?”
Jarvis: “Really, you have a gun pointed at you with bullets filled with mercury that would mostly paralyse you. And you still wanna ask many questions.”
Jake: “Sorry then, geez, I was just curious.”
Mr. Jones silently watches the video, lowering his gun.
Jarvis: “As you can see from the video, Jake did not lay a finger on Matthew, even when he flashed him with the brain neuralyzer. Matthew only ran back to his car; that was the last time Jake and I saw him.”
Mr. Jones, at first, was reluctant to believe what he watched, but he soon laid down his gun, untying Jake from the chair. Jake thanks Jarvis for providing an alibi for him. Jake rubs his wrist from the rope tightening. He then looks at Mr. Jones with a confused face.
Jake: “Why did you believe what Jarvis said?”
Mr. Jones: “Because I helped build that thing.”
Jake: “You what? Why do you not know this?”
Jarvis: “Probably erased to keep his identity safe.”
Jake: “Welp, I guess I have to learn about him some other day.”
Mr Jones sits down on a chair, trying to gather his thoughts as he refuses to believe his son has run away or been killed. He closes his eyes, thinking and thinking. Jarvis then breaks the silence.
Jarvis: “What if he was kidnapped?”
Mr. Jones turns towards Jarvis. Looking at him as Jarvis has struck a nerve in his brain. Mr. Jones looks back to continue thinking, and then….he remembered someone back home.
Mr Jones: “Shit.”
Mr. Jones rushes towards his car, and with full force, he steps on the pedal and drives towards his own home, hoping it wasn’t too late.
