He was sitting down and reconsidering the whole hero thing. Jake slowly questions whether he could return to his old life before becoming a hero. Even though those days were painful, he sometimes wished all this never happened. A tear fell from Jake’s eyes as he simultaneously remembered the time he spent with his parents. He missed every second of those days. Jarvis: “C’mon, quit your crying.” Jake: “Man, shut up. You don’t have emotions anyway. You wouldn’t understand.” Jarvis: “Maybe I do. Have you ever thought of that?” Jake: “Whatever.” Jarvis, too, had a moment to think about what Jake said. He left it for another day and returned to searching for the location. Jarvis: “I found where Slung Valley is and a few places we could check out for the Shaman.” Jake: “Let’s go then.” Standing back up, Jake told himself that what happened had happened. There is nothing he could’ve done to change the past. From yesterday, he could only move on and be a better version of himself. Jake went to the bathroom to wash his face before leaving to find the mysterious person. To avoid drawing much attention, Jake called a cab. While waiting, he imagines a few scenarios of what might happen when he does find the person. Would he be a Shaman that could help him? Could it be a trap? Could the things he hears might not be to his liking? One by one, Jake scrolled through every scenario in his head like he was tranced. A few minutes pass by, and the cab arrives. He called out to Jake and immediately snapped back to reality, shaking his head as if horrible things had happened in his mind. Jake got into the cab. Before the driver started driving, he asked Jake a very odd question that gave him some goosebumps. Taxi Driver: “Are you going to Slung Valley to meet the Shaman? Jake (Thoughts): “So it was a Shaman. And how does this guy know I was about to go there?” Jake: “Yes…How did you know I was going there?” Taxi Driver: “Lucky guess.” The driver shrugs at Jake and begins driving to Slung Valley. Jake felt uneased by the whole situation but chose not to make a big fuss about it to avoid unwanted dangers that might lurk ahead of time. The drive wasn’t all that exciting. It was…quiet. Jake loosens, thinking he was overthinking the situation and that luck was just on his side. Thirty minutes pass by, and Jake arrives at Slung Valley. When he asked how much the fee was, the driver nodded and smiled at Jake. Taxi Driver: “Don’t worry about it.” Jake did not question it and got out of the Cab. Looking around the place, Jake felt guilty for not paying the fee; he turned around, and nothing was there. Jake looked around the area and found it very quiet, so to save time, he hurriedly went into the forest to find the Shaman. Jake followed the path, bringing him to a split pathway with two signs directing each of them. 1st sign: “Life is meaningless. Until you realise who you are and what you could achieve.” 2nd sign: “Life is meaningless. No matter your greatness, it will soon be forgotten.” Jake: “Is this a test?” Jarvis: “Maybe?” Jake: “From what I understand, the first one sounds like every human being in this world, and that meaning is something we must find when we truly understand ourselves. The second one tells the hard truth that no matter what we accomplish, it won’t last forever and will soon be left in the dust. Both make sense in a way.” Jarvis: “The second one sounds panned more on the bad side.” Jake: “And how so?” Jarvis: “Cause evil is always remembered throughout the ages, and good is just a norm.” Jake stands before the two signs, debating which path to choose. He suddenly hears voices calling out to him; two entities appear, one on each side of the pathway, convincing Jake to choose. Entity of 1st path: “The truth hurts, Jake. But we must stand strong and face it.” Entity of 2nd path: “This is reality, Jake. Follow what you truly desire.” Consumed by the words of both entities, another voice within Jake started convincing his mind to choose the second path and do what he truly desires. Jarvis: “Jake, you there.” Jake did not answer and slowly progressed to the 2nd pathway, following another voice inside of him. Jarvis: “Jake, snap out of it!” Jake’s face turned emotionless at that point, and his pupils turned grey. Jake slowly walked towards the 2nd entity as if forced to do so. Step by step, Jarvis notices the 2nd entity smiling. Jarvis: “JAKE, SNAP OUT OF IT!.” The 2nd entity lends out his hand. It was smiling at Jake. Still unaware of the situation, Jake slowly lends his hand to the 2nd entity. Its smile kept getting bigger and more sinister looking before Jake grabbed the entity’s hand; it took out a sharp scythe from behind its back, ready to strike Jake at the perfect moment to harvest his soul. Right out of nowhere, Jackson flew by and punched the entity, knocking it backwards and stunning it briefly. Jackson landed on the ground and smacked Jake onto the ground in hopes of waking him up. Jake immediately snaps back and looks at Jackson, touching his face. Jarvis: “Thank you for smacking my user.” Jake: “Wh….” Jackson: “No time to explain. We have to go now.” The 2nd entity got back up, screaming at them, becoming a demon. Entity of 2nd path: “You can’t escape from destiny, Jake!” The two of them ran back to the first path. Surprisingly, the entity was unable to leave its pathway. They both took a breath of relief. The entity of the first path soon approached them, but nothing was said. It only nodded at Jake and let them through. Jake: “That was a relief.” Jackson: “What happened back there, Jake? It’s like you weren’t even in control.” Jake: “I don’t know, I just heard a voice inside me. Next thing I know, I was smacked by you. I don’t even know why I chose the second path.” They continued down the pathway. Jake: “By the way, why are you here?” Jackson: “I don’t know either. When I was out searching for more details on Dr. Zeron’s whereabouts, I had a sudden vision, and someone was trying to communicate with me via telepathy. It hurt like hell, but she said that you were in danger at this very place. So I flew as fast as I could here to find you.” Jake smiled and looked at Jackson. Jake: “Thank you…For saving me back there.” Jackson: “No problem. Plus, now I’m curious who this person is. Maybe she can tell me something important.” The two of them continued. At the end of the pathway was a hut surrounded by a small pond. Forestry around the area gave it a calming atmosphere. The hut itself was covered in moss in some places. Jake and Jackson walked onto the bridge and approached the door. They opened the door to find a lady who looked around the age of 30. The lady: “I’ve been expecting you, Jake. And thank you, Jackson, for your help. Please, have a seat. We are safe here from it.” Jake: “Wait, how do you know our names?” The lady: “I’m a shaman, my child. I know many things. I even know you’ve recently fought with a demon not long ago.” Jake: “A demon? You mean the Boogeyman?” The lady: “Is that what you call it? For us, we….” Jake: “Wait, what do you mean us?” Jackson: “Can you calm yourself down and let her finish.” Jake: “I’m very sorry for interrupting.” The lady: “It is okay, my child. For centuries, the demon you know as The Boogeyman was also known as Devorator Animarum. An incarnate of chaos itself that consumes souls to fuel its eternal hunger for power. I’ve always checked on the demon and helped prevent another soul from being taken away, but sometimes, I would fail as he is growing stronger by the day. But a few weeks back, his powers dropped drastically. I could contact the spirits once trapped within him and heard of a boy who fought it. So I asked the spirits for their help in searching for you. A few weeks till today, I’ve finally found you. I began monitoring your soul from here, as I’ve noticed some disruptions from within during this week.” Jackson: “Is it about Jake going berserk?” The lady: “Yes, Jake’s anger was used as a catalyst for the demon within you to break free and take control. I’m afraid now, after that incident, it has a soul of its own……residing in your body. Whatever you did during your fight with Devorator Animarum made you a part of the chaos.” Jake: “Why do bad things always happen to me.” Jackson: “Now, I’m curious.” Jake: “Didn’t you come here to ask about Dr. Zeron?” Jackson: “That can wait. Dr. Zeron is hard to pinpoint anyway since he influences the world. He probably has a lab in almost every part of this world.” Jake: “This has nothing to do with you; I don’t really wanna pull anyone else into this mess.” Jackson: “I’m already here anyways, so why not get it over with.” Jackson puts out his hand, offering a deal for a friend. Jackson: “Let’s shake on this deal. I help you with your problem, and you help me with mine.” Jake happily shook Jackson’s hand and smiled genuinely.
