Vol 2 Chapter 1 The Chaos Within #7

Although he was flying for the first time in his life, Jackson didn’t experience much difficulty in controlling it with the help of Jake’s memories; he even managed to catch up to ‘Jake’. ‘Jake, ' on the other hand, was soaring through the sky while Jackson was in hot pursuit. ‘Jake,’ trying to get Jackson off his trail, fires some energy blasts at Jackson in hopes of either putting him out of the sky or killing him. Jackson focuses on dodging the blast, calming his mind like Jake would. Spinning in the air from left to right, Jackson got closer and closer to ‘Jake.’
Jackson: “I’ve….got…you..now….Imposter.”
Jackson was about 2 seconds away from grabbing onto ‘Jake’s’ right leg. But little did Jackson know that 2 seconds was enough for ‘Jake’ to escape. In that short amount of time, ‘Jake’ brings himself to a complete stop and phases himself through Jackson.
Jackson: “What the.”
Jackson passes through the phased imposter; Jackson tries to stop to turn around but is too slow. ‘Jake’ creates an energy blade from his hand and stabs Jackson through the gut. Jackson spewed blood, but there was nothing he could’ve done there. ‘Jake’ pulls out the energy blade and smashes Jackson towards the ground below them. ‘Jake’ continued flying into the distance in search of human souls. Jackson was lying unconsciously on the ground, and a hole was punctured from the back to the front of his stomach. Due to the large amount of blood loss, Jackson was far too weak to activate his healing factor. His breath was getting heavier and heavier, his heart rate increasing quickly, trying to compensate for the blood loss, but it was not avail. Jackson’s heart rate slowly deteriorates.
Jarvis: “Hang in there longer, Jackson. I’m trying to find the DNA that contains your powers. Just hang in there.”
Jackson’s heart soon stops. Lying on the ground was a breathless Jackson.
Jarvis: “Shit. I must go faster….Almost there…..Ah, Found it.”
Jarvis helps the lifeless Jackson activate his super healing factor; moments pass, and Jackson is fully healed. Jarvis tried sending medium shocks directed at Jackson’s heart, but it didn’t work as Jackson’s body would absorb most of the electricity current before it could get to his heart. With no choice left, Jarvis could only call out for help.
Jarvis: “ANYONE THERE! PLEASE, I NEED HELP. God, I wish I had nanites to help me with this.”
With luck by Jarvis’ side, a young girl approaches Jarvis.
Jarvis: “Yes, you girl. Woah woah woah, don’t be afraid; I’m not going to hurt you or anything. I need your help.”
Jarvis opens his inventory portal and materializes an automated external defibrillator out of thin air.
Javis: “I need you to grab those electro pads and restart his heart. I’ll check his heart pulse.”
The girl agrees; she first removes Jackson’s clothes, exposing his chest. She then grabs the pads from the machine. Rubbing the pads together, the girl charges up the pads and delivers a direct shock to Jackson’s heart. There was no pulse, so the girl repeated the process of charging the pads up again. After three tries, a pulse was seen through Jarvis’ screen. Jackson sat up hurriedly, gasping for air as he had witnessed death. Jackson’s breath slowly calms; he looks to the side and sees a girl holding the pads. She was frightened by Jackson.
Jackson: “Sorry, I didn’t mean to startle you like that. Thank you for saving my life.”
Jarvis: “Don’t forget about me.”
Jackson: “You too, Jarvis. Thanks.”
Jackson stands up on both his feet.
Jackson: “I would like to know you more, but I have something to settle before it’s too late. Hope we meet again.”
The machine dematerializes back into Jarvis. Jackson once again thanks the girl before flying away. The girl looks at Jackson, waving goodbye.
Jackson: “Jarvis, do you still have the imposter’s trail.”
Jarvis: “Of course I do; I am Jarvis, after all.”
Jarvis opened up a hologram of the country’s map and pinpointed the trail left by ‘Jake’s’ fast flight.
Jackson: “Hang in there, Jake. I’m coming.”
(Heavy breathing)
Imposter Jake grabs Jake by the neck.
Imposter Jake: “Had enough…Jake.”
The beaten-up soul of Jake was on the verge of death, tired from all the fighting, while the imposter stood strong, his energy ever-lasting.
Imposter Jake: “Face it, Jake. You are no match for us. Most of your life essence has already been consumed by the devourer of souls.”
Jake spits blood on the imposter to show his ignorance that he never kneels to defeat.
Jake: “I don’t care how tired I am unless you kill me; I will keep fighting.”
Imposter Jake: “I’m afraid that would be a tragedy saved for later. Of course, you know that very well since you read my mind.”
The imposter throws the exhausted Jake aside. The imposter then creates a chair out of pure chaos. Sitting on it, he smiles at Jake, laughing at his misery.
Imposter Jake: “Don’t fret…Once that puppet devours enough souls, your body is as good as his. Until then, we still need you alive for the body to function. But don’t worry; I’ll make sure you can witness the….horrors we will soon unleash while you're still alive. Mwahahahahahaha.”
Unable to move a single muscle, Jake could only lay on the ground, praying for a miracle.
‘Jake’ soon arrives at a comic convention in Malevin (Ma-Le-Vin) with over 100 thousand people attending. Floating in the air, a few cosplayers soon noticed his presence. The people pointed their cameras at ‘Jake’, recording what they thought was an incredible act. Jake slowly descends onto the ground at the centre of the area; looking at his surroundings, he begins drooling with hunger.
‘Jake’: “So…MaNY….SOulS….ThIS….wIll…Be…A…..FeASt…”
The crowd grew curious and began questioning ‘Jake’.
???: “HEY, HOW DID YOU PULL OFF SUCH AN ACT!”
???: “YEAH, SHARE US YOUR SECRET!”
Jake did not respond; instead, he was mesmerized by the vast number of souls. One cosplayer became impatient and walked towards ‘Jake’, trying to find out if he was wearing a jetpack or if he had strings pulling him upwards. As the cosplayer got close enough, ‘Jake’ snapped out of its buffet fantasy. ‘Jake’ grabs onto the cosplayer’s neck, lifting him off the ground, and starts consuming his soul. The colour of the cosplayer’s skin decayed and shrivelled up. ‘Jake’ releases his grip, and the lifeless body falls to the ground, ‘Jake’ stomps the head of the cosplayer clean off before letting out a loud and horrifying scream. ‘Jake’ bends his body down, spikes begin growing from his back, his skin becomes pale, his teeth sharper, and his eyes are lifeless. The crowd soon became aware of the situation; they began panicking, running around, pushing people, trying to hide, but it was too late for all of them…or was it? ‘Jake’ stopped moving as he suddenly felt a bit of pain from the left side of his torso; a huge bruise could be seen, and it was enough for ‘Jake’ to understand that there were other superhumans among the crowd. ‘Jake’ surveyed the area, trying to find the culprit, only to be left with more bruises on his body. There was no pain felt, nor the feeling of being touched. The more steps he took, the more serious the bruises became, till the point where ‘Jake’ began to spew out a bit of blood. ‘Jake’ continued moving, trying to resist the pain. More bruises began showing up, and he was soon brought down to his knees by the overwhelming pain. ‘Jake’ was angered and thought of an idea to capture the person behind this. ‘Jake’ curls himself into a ball, leaving him vulnerable. A few hits were landed on the curled-up ‘Jake’, but no response was given. ‘Jake’ closes his eyes, listening to the slight shock waves left by the person hitting him, and is soon able to pinpoint where he was about to strike. Right as the person got near him, ‘Jake’ reshaped his body; his hands grew out from the right side of his body, and he had a big head with his mouth wide open, ready to consume the person but failed as he wasn’t fast enough. ‘Jake’ had only managed to catch a glimpse of the person.
‘Jake’: “So….You’RE….A….SpeeDSter…”
‘Jake’ stands up, looking into the crowd. ‘Jake’ could not find the person. So, he chooses a random direction and begins charging towards the group of cosplayers. The punches kept coming, but ‘Jake’ ignored them; he soon got near the group and raised his hand in the air, ready to crush the cosplayers who were too afraid to move. Just as ‘Jake’s’ hand was about to hit a few of them, he heard a loud shout from the pathway between the two skyscrapers.
Jackson: “JAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKE!”
With both fists pointed towards the transfigured ‘Jake’, Jackson collides with ‘Jake’, causing the imposter to crash into the ground along with Jackson. Jackson then continues with a few punches onto ‘Jake’s’ face before being punched, sending him back. Jackson caught himself, wiped off some blood from his mouth, and got into Jake’s fighting stance.
‘Jake’: “So….YOu’VE….RETaineD…His…MEmoriES…BUT….It…IS…FUtiLe….”
Jackson: “We’ll see about that.”
‘Jake’ steps towards Jackson but is again stopped by punches. Jackson saw the situation.
Jackson: “Jarvis, any chance that there are more superheroes except Jake?”
Jarvis: “Seeing how that thing exists, I would say yes, but only a fraction of the world’s population.”
Jackson: “Does Jake have any abilities to see everything at a slowed pace?”
Jarvis: “Yes, but I can’t make any promises that it’ll work as you want.”
Jackson: “And why’s that?”
Jarvis: “Well, for now, I can only think of The Flash, but to use it at its full potential, you kinda have to repeat the experiment that made Flash or learn how to tap into the speed force using technology. And I don’t have any tech to recreate or provide you with the full effects. I can only help you mimic a fraction of The Flash’s powers, and I can’t help you tap into the speed force.”
Jackson: “So there are rules?”
Jarvis: “Think of it as a game where you gotta level up or do certain things to unlock certain abilities.”
Jackson: “Guess a fraction of it is better than nothing.”
Jackson mimics the speedster in red. Jackson focuses his energy on his body, accelerating his body to move to the point where everything is slowed down slightly. It wasn’t much, but it was enough to see a person running at supersonic speed and hitting ‘Jake’. Jackson soon loses focus and Jackson takes heavy breaths.
Jackson: “Damn, that was hard to control. Also, I found the person, a speedster, but I couldn’t see his face; all I could see were a bunch of blue lines emanating from the person.”
Jarvis: “My recording should be able to show what he looks like.”
Jarvis shows footage of the speedster fighting ‘Jake’ but could not catch his looks either.
Jackson: “Guess devising a plan with the speedster is off our list.”
Jackson improvises and flies straight into ‘Jake’, punching and knocking him back. Jackson also kept shouting in hopes of calling Jake out. After a few punches, the transfigured monster grew restless and enraged. ‘Jake’ grabs Jackson by the neck, punching him before swapping his grab to Jackson’s leg; the speedster saw what was about to happen and kept landing punch after punch but to no success; all his punches were ignored. ‘Jake’ then slams Jackson onto the ground as hard as possible, creating a small crater and causing a minor earthquake in the surrounding area. The speedster got out of the radius and the speedster slowed himself down to save the civilians and not accidentally kill them. But this was all according to plan. As the speedster slowed his movements down, ‘Jake’ could see the speedster. ‘Jake’ then throws the unconscious Jackson into the building, causing some concrete chunks to fall. The speedster kept running, trying his best to save the civilians. ‘Jake’ took it as an opportunity to devour as many souls as possible. ‘Jake’ stabs himself in the chest with his right hand; he screams in pain, pulling something out. As the item got bigger and bigger, it was clear that it was a scythe made of bones. ‘Jake’ then swung his scythe. The swing created a small slash of chaos energy, killing thousands of civilians who were still in the area. ‘Jake’ then began to suck up the souls of the dead civilians. The speedster could only keep saving those who were still alive. Moments later, a portal opens near Jackson within the building. A person came through the portal and woke Jackson up. Jackson opened his eyes and saw the person who was none other than The Shaman herself. But for some reason, Jackson felt odd, as the Shaman was different.
The Shaman: “There’s no time to explain here; take this. It is a crystal that can split multiple souls out of a body. You have but only one chance at this. Once you get near him, aim for the heart and stab the tyrant with the crystal, and the process shall bring Jake back.”
Jackson: “I’m on it.”
Jackson walks towards the hole created when he is thrown at the building; Jackson then plunges out of the building to fight ‘Jake,’ leaving The Shaman alone.
The Shaman: “Please…Save my son.”
Holding onto the crystal with one hand, Jackson pulls his right arm back, prepared to stab ‘Jake’ with the crystal. ‘Jake’ saw the crystal in Jackson’s hand and instantly knew what it was. ‘Jake then swings his scythe at Jackson, trying to kill him before he can use the crystal. The scythe got closer and closer to Jackson. He was unable to dodge the attack. Luckily, Jarvis helps activate his mimicry, making Jackson mimic the ability to phase through objects. Jackson phases through ‘Jake’, landing on the ground and turning his body towards ‘Jake’.
Jackson: “Thanks, Jarvis.”
Jarvis: “No problem.”
Jackson: “Don’t worry, Jake, I’ll get you out of there.”
The speedster stood beside Jackson after successfully removing all civilians from the vicinity. The battle to bring Jake back soon commences as the two heroes stand before the transfigured tyrant.
