CHAPTER III. THE WRONG FEELING'S

We returned to our true bodies, my older sister went to work, and I went to school. I was walking down the corridor towards my classroom when my classmates started staring at me. I wondered what my kind sister did again yesterday.
"Wit wew!" a male student whistled from the side.
I lowered my head and walked faster. Why were they staring at me from head to toe? Oh no! I wondered what my nice sister did while I was not in control of my own body.
"Lottie!"
Someone shouted from behind me, but I ignored it.
Who's Lottie? Suddenly, someone tapped me on the shoulder. I stopped and turned to face him. "I-Is that you, Luke?" there was surprise in my voice.
The guy who tapped me was Class President Luke: smart, kind, cheerful, athletic—everything I like in a guy. I've had a crush on him since seventh grade.
"Sorry, did I startle you? You didn't want to look at me earlier," he said with a smile, both hands in his pockets.
"I-I didn't know, you were calling only me?" I replied hesitantly.
It was strange. Luke never paid attention to me before, so why was he smiling at me now?
He laughed loudly. "Come on! Didn't you say yesterday to call you Lottie?"
That was weird. He was looking at my chest? Wait, yesterday? It must have been my sister's doing. No one else calls me Lottie except for Mommy, Daddy, and my sister. I could do nothing but let him call me Lottie. Besides that, I wondered what else my super kind sister did.
"Lot-Lot!" Aleyah shouted enthusiastically, waving at me.
In front of the classroom door, my best friend Aleyah was waiting. She has been calling me Lot-Lot since grade 7. She was the first one to approach me and introduce herself. She's cheerful and affectionate. We're opposites—she's talkative while I'm quiet. I'm shy and don't like being the center of attention. Aleyah, on the other hand, is like my older sister, always talking.
"Morning, Aleyah!" I greeted her.
"Morning, beshie!" she greeted back, linking her arm with mine.
"Lottie!" my classmates shouted.
I was surprised by their shouting. "W-What's going on?" I asked, puzzled.
They didn't pay attention to me before, but now everyone was looking at me. It's as if they all saw a celebrity while I used to be invisible to them. Aleyah suddenly burst into laughter. She nudged me in the side, and I had no idea what was happening and why they were acting like this towards me. Even when I sat down in my chair, everyone was still looking at me. I really didn't like this. It's all because of my sister, stealing the attention.
"Lot-Lot, you don't seem hyper today," Aleyah said with a smirk.
"I-I'm not really hyper," I hesitantly replied as I arranged my bag on the chair.
She sat on top of her desk and stared at me. "Hmm... it looks like you're back to your original self, beshie."
"Huh? W-What was I like yesterday?" I asked, bewildered.
"Yesterday, the day before that, and the days before that, you were like a wild woman. Are you sick? Why does it seem like your personality alternates, beshie?" she wondered.
I couldn't tell Aleyah about the situation with my sister. I couldn't say that I'm not the wild woman they thought I was.
"Maybe you have a dual personality, huh?" Aleyah added.
I just grinned at her in response. Aleyah went back to her seat when the guy who bumped into me in Baclaran arrived. He approached the adjacent chair. Wait, was he sitting next to me? I don't remember noticing him before.
"Morning!" he greeted with a grumpy tone.
"M-Morning. You're the one from Baclaran, right?" I asked. He placed his bag down and sat. He didn't look at me, his gaze fixed on the blackboard, slouching and yawning on top of the desk.
"Yeah, that's me..." he replied lifelessly.
This guy seems sleepy. I asked again, "W-What's your name again?"
"Ervine, Ervine Morales. Don't forget it, okay?" he said grumpily, giving me a sharp look.
I felt a strange warmth in my body. His grumpy facial expression while speaking made it hard for me to resist smiling and feeling thrilled.
"I promise, I won't forget..." I shyly replied.
I gave him a sweet smile as a greeting on that bright morning. His whole cheeks turned red, he quickly turned his head and buried his face on the desk. Is he shy? He's so cute... I feel like I've known him for a long time, even though this is the first time we've talked like this. It's strange that I didn't notice him before. When did he transfer to this school? I can't remember.
After class, I was surprised when Luke suddenly walked alongside me on the way home. This has never happened before; I've never walked home with him. My heart was leaping with excitement now that he's with me. We're so close to each other, and I'm nervous!
"You know, Lottie..." He paused and scratched the back of his neck.
Luke took a deep breath and spoke forcefully, "I like you!"
"Huh?!" was my immediate reaction to what he said. "W-What did you say? S-Sorry, I-I didn't—"
"Lottie, will you be my girlfriend?!" he suddenly blurted out.
I couldn't speak; I was stunned by his words. My heart was pounding with joy. I instinctively touched both of my cheeks, feeling the warmth spreading through my body. I tried to calm myself down. I need to respond, but what should I say to him?
"L-Luke, w-what do you like about me?" I asked shyly.
I wanted to know why he suddenly liked me. I couldn't stand still in my current position. My heart was beating so fast, and I was anxious about his answer. What could he have liked about me?
"It's because you have a strong presence. These past few days, I noticed that you have such a contagious laugh. I really like girls who move with confidence, and you're so energetic. I like sporty girls," he explained.
I felt like a stone statue in my place when I heard what he said. I'm not the type of girl he likes! My heart suddenly ached.
"Are you okay, Lot—"
"Don't call me Lottie!!" I shouted abruptly at Luke.
In the midst of the pain I was feeling, I ended up yelling at him. I knew he didn't do anything wrong, but it was frustrating!
"I'm not the one you like—I'm not that person!" I shouted.
I was disappointed with his confession. I clenched my fists as I turned away from him, tears welling up in my eyes as I left him standing there. I walked quickly, unable to hold back, and ended up crying.
"Lottie, wait!!" Luke called out.
I didn't look back; I hastened my pace even more. I shouted at him again as I walked away with my back turned. "Don't follow me!!"
As I walked, I passed by the park; I didn't feel like going home yet. I didn't want to see my sister; I felt jealous of her. I sat on the swing, feeling sad and hunched over, trying to calm myself down before going home. My nose was running, and my eyes continued to shed tears. I couldn't believe that what Luke liked was someone like my sister, not me.
"Oh, take this!"
I heard a grumpy voice. I suddenly looked up at the guy in front of me; he handed me his handkerchief. "E-Ervine? What are you doing here?"
"Nothing, just passing by. Oh, take it." He insisted that I take his handkerchief, and I reached out to take it. It would be embarrassing to refuse his kindness.
His tone was still grumpy, but his face turned red. I smiled for an unknown reason. I wiped away my tears with his handkerchief, and I even sniffled because my runny nose wanted to come out earlier.
"I'll wash this handkerchief before returning it to you." I smiled awkwardly at him.
He nodded in agreement, and there was a mischievous glint in his eyes. I just kept smiling and looking at him.
"Hey, stop staring at me like that, tsk!" he scolded.
He sat on the nearby swing, his face turned away, focused on another direction. Then he suddenly spoke softly. "A-Are you okay now? I'll stay here with you until you're okay."
My heart skipped a beat at his words. Despite his grumpiness, kindness and thoughtfulness were inherent in him. "I'm okay now, thank you, Ervine."
I stood up and faced him, giving him a sweet smile. Finally, Ervine also looked at me. The setting sun's rays shone on his sparkling eyes. As I gazed at him, I suddenly felt a sense of melancholy. What is it about this guy that has such a strong impact on me?
"You know, you're cute," I noticed his blushing face.
I didn't know where it came from; I just said it to him, but he really was cute.
"Stop it! I'm not a dog!!" he exclaimed, embarrassed.
I laughed at Ervine's amusing reaction. I couldn't understand it, but the pain in my heart from Luke's rejection suddenly disappeared. It was replaced by joy because of the grumpy and mysterious guy, Ervine.
"Don't think there's another reason why I accompanied you today. Okay, bye!" He suddenly ran off.
He waved at me and boarded a jeep. I was left smiling as I watched the jeep he rode away in. I also got on a jeep, smiling slightly as I sat there. My sister captured the heart of my former crush?
