CHAPTER IV. THE BEING CURE TO CURSE

When I arrived home, I was greeted by my sister's angry expression.
"So, you found the old woman last Sunday, huh? Why didn't you tell me!" she shouted.
"Sis, I..."
I had forgotten to tell my sister what had happened on Sunday in Baclaran.
We sat in the living room, and I narrated the whole incident, summarizing it for her to understand more easily.
"What? Act of true love? That's nonsense! Where are you going to find that true love-true love?" she exclaimed.
It was indeed an act of true love, like in fairy tale stories. According to what Switch said, the curse she put on my sister and me was a soul-switching spell. We alternately switched souls every midnight. She also said that no matter what we did, the curse would never be lifted. Even if we didn't sleep at night, the soul-switching would still happen.
They said there must be someone who will love, show love to both of us. A true, pure, and unconditional love that we should reciprocate equally. It can't just be one person; we should both accept and treat them the same way they treat us.
I watched my sister as she walked back and forth, biting her long nails. With one hand holding onto her arm.
"Wait, don't tell me..." my sister paused for a moment before looking at me.
I preempted what she was about to say. "You're right, sis. 'True love's kiss' is an act of true love. But, there are many other ways, right? You can do good deeds for others or stop your quarrels with other people!" I asserted.
Ate Carmen's entire face turned red, her ears fuming with anger. "Act of true love, true love's kiss? Is this a fairy tale? True love doesn't exist! There's no such thing, no forever! You can't survive on love! That damn witchcraft!!" she exclaimed, throwing a tantrum.
"Wait, sis, hold on!" I interrupted her.
I just mentioned "act of true love," and she immediately thought of a kiss? There are many ways to show love, not just through a kiss. She walked out and stormed into her room. I couldn't tell her that... true love is real, you just have to open your heart to the people around you.
I love Ate Carmen so much, and I know she feels the same way about me. We were orphaned at a young age, but because of her love for me, she worked hard to find a decent job. She dedicated her whole life to taking care of me. Her heart was closed off, unwilling to accept love from others. That's why she's still single, no boyfriend since birth. I hope... she finds her one true love soon.
"Lottie! Come with me to that witch!
I'm going to confront her! She better be ready for me!!" Ate came out of the room, visibly angry.
In an amusing outfit, she was wearing a necklace with a large cross, garlic turned into a necklace around her neck, and a Bible?
"A-Ate? Are you an aswang hunter?" I jokingly asked.
"Crazy, I'm a witch hunter! Come on, let's hunt down that witch!!" She replied seriously.
"I'm serious, I'm a witch hunter! Come on, let's hunt down the witch!!" she replied with determination.
She even pulled out a long and sharp spear.
I didn't know where she got that thing.
"Ate, she's not an aswang-witch!" I tried to explain to her.
"Let's go! We're going to fix this foolish curse right now!!" Ate Carmen bravely declared.
I had no choice but to follow her.
It was dark, with hardly anyone on the sidewalks of Baclaran. A few vehicles passed by on the road.
"Are you sure you saw that old witch here?" Ate asked boldly.
"Yes, Ate, I saw her here, and then the door to her mysterious home is in that dark alleyway."
A cold breeze blew, making me shiver even more. Ate was truly determined to find Switch.
We took a step forward, entering the dark alleyway. The stench of the polluted canal on the side filled the air, stray cats and dog feces scattered around. Thankfully, we brought a flashlight with us.
After a while, small specks of light suddenly appeared around us, resembling tiny fireflies. They were beautiful. I felt warmth emanating from our surroundings. I remembered this feeling when I was inside Switch's magic barrier. It seemed like we had entered her territory. But how about the door?
I didn't know the incantation she used to summon the door from the wall.
"Orea, ilaih, majika, nepetrum!!"
Suddenly, a magical phrase was chanted from behind. Concealed in the darkness, I couldn't make out the person's face, but they held a magic stick. However, I was certain it was a male voice. He was wearing a long cloak. Ate and I held onto each other, closing our eyes as the man approached the two of us.
