Chapter 56 Lost

A white ceiling exposed her sight as she opened her eyes.
When she forced herself to turn to her side, she saw a man reading a book.
Perhaps he felt the commotion she had created, he looked up at her.
Without a word he pressed a button and spoke.
"She's awake." He says.
"Where am I?" She asked the man.
Because of the pain she felt on the side of her head, she run her fingers to her head.
There is a bandage. Her head was bandaged.
"You're in the hospital. How are you feeling?" He asked before stroking her forehead.
She gave him a confused look before speaking. "Why am I here?"
"Don't you remember?"
She could not answer.
Remember? Why does her mind seem blank? Why does she seem to remember nothing?
"Sir Arthur, Doctor Reynolds is here." From the door, a nurse said to the man who had identified himself as Arthur.
The man smiled before nodding.
Following the nurse, a man wearing a white coat also entered.
It immediately approached the side of the bed and quietly checked her wrist as well as her blood pressure.
"How are you feeling?" He asked.  "Do you feel any pain in your body?"
"My head aches." She says.
"It's only natural to hurt the side of your head, because that's where the stronger impact caused by the accident hit." He answer. "How about your other body parts? The back? The legs and thighs?"
She shook her head but also spoke immediately.
"Accident? What accident? I had an accident?" Astonished, she stared into the doctor's face.
"Yes you had an accident." The astonishment on his face also faded. "Wait, don't you remember?"
She shook her head again.
"I honestly don't remember anything. I don't even know why I came here and what accident you're talking about."
the doctor turned to the man next to him who introduced himself as Dr. Arthur before looking at him again.
"Probably, the strong impact affected her head so she's showing signs of memory loss." Said Dr. Arthur while looking at him.
"Do you remember your name?" Dr. Reynolds asked.
"My name?" She thought for a moment. "I'm ... I'm ..." The dark emptiness seemed to absorb her system in the urge to remember certain details in her mind.
But even if she repeatedly thinks of any information she could have,  emptiness still reflects in her mind.
Until the pain pierced her. She winced in pain.
"Are you okay? It's okay if you don't remember. Don't force it." The concern in Dr. Reynolds' voice was obvious as he looked at her.
"I'm ..." There was frustration in her voice. She rubbed her head with both hands when it suddenly hurt. The nurses immediately attended to her.
"I'll tell my staff to prepare for the test that will be done for you. We need to find out what exactly is the possible reason for you being like this. For now, let's let her rest first." The Doctor says before looking at Arthur's direction.
There was some liquid that the nurse had injected into the dextrose attached to her. later on the woman felt strange. It was as if she was slowly being pulled away.
when they saw that she was slowly falling asleep, they went out one by one.
Her eyes were fixed on the white ceiling. She wanted to find in every corner of it the answer she could not find in her mind.
*******
Arthur paid homage to the panoramic view of the entire city. From the rooftop of the hospital, he and Samuel Reynolds were together looking into vast endless view.
He gently lifted the paper containing the coffee and sipped there.
"It's really surprising how this thing happened. When you called me and said you met a woman who looked like Madison, I didn't immediately believe it. I thought you're just being delusional and psychologically unstable because of Maddy's death. But when I saw that woman, I was wrong. "
"We just had the same reaction. When I saw her on the road, she was almost lifeless due to bleeding. It's just a normal thing that crossed my mind to rush and help her. But when I saw her face ..."
"So what do you plan now? Obviously, that woman is facing a big problem because of what happened to her."
"I already decided to help her." He said without hesitation.
Samuel confusedly turned to him. "And how are you going to help him?" The man asked.
"I want to keep her." He said seriously.
"Do you hear what you're saying? Arthur, you know what you want to do is wrong."
"Wrong? What are you saying wrong? Isn't it just right that I keep her? She's a total homeless now and she has nowhere else to go."
"But it doesn't mean that you can claim her. Obviously that woman has a family. Although it's just too unfortunate that she had miscarriage with her baby. But I'm sure that at this time, her family is already looking for her. And it won't help if you will hide her. "
He can't help but to flinch because of what Samuel said.
He didn't like the idea that the woman he saved actually had a family. The woman with Madison's face. His beloved Madison.
"Don't let your emotions get you, Arthur." Samuel said gently before tapping his shoulder. "I know until now you still can't move on with Madison's death. But it's not right for you to be like this just because they look like the same. Arthur, she's not your wife. "
There drew a pinch in Arthur's chest because of what Samuel had said. Yes, he admits to himself up until this moment that the death of his wife was still fresh in him.
It has been two years since she died due to liver cancer, but until now he still can't manage to accept it. And he knew it will take a long time before he could do that.
Arthur sighed as he stared at the vast sky.
It's been a few minutes since Samuel left but he still doesn't know what to do in the next few days. He wants to follow his own idea, but he knows it's against moral law and human law. He can't just do things as what he wants too. Samuel is probably right. Her family might be already looking for the woman he finds on the highway. But squeezes into his system the desire to keep the stranger by his side.

A loud laugh stirred Siren's senses. She turned in the direction where the voice was coming from.
"Do you think you can hide from me?" That familiar voice. "Everywhere you go, I'll still find you." Again, its laughter soared.
"Who are you?!" She asked aloud as she looked around.
"I'll look for you. And when that happens, you'll be next to Diana and Harry. You'll be next to the people who died because of you!"
Suddenly, a woman appeared and strangled her as its seemingly mad laughter continued.
She did not move immediately due to shock. It was too late for her to feel its tight grip on her neck.
She tried to loosen her grip with all her might but the woman seemed even more satisfied because of what she was doing.
"Let go ..." She said with a sigh.
"I'll kill you! I'll kill you like I killed your baby!" Loud and grumpy she says.
Fear filled her chest because of what the woman said.
Her baby. Is it true what she said she killed her baby?
She was running out of air. She could already feel the numbness on her face due to the woman's force as it gripped her neck.
"I'll kill you, Siren! I'll kill you!"
