Chapter 58 Falling apart
..
Conrad stared intently at the scene on the other side of his glass wall.
But none of that caught his attention. His mind was flying somewhere and he wasn't sure what his mind was really running.
A tight hug from his back brought back his senses. Even if he doesn't look back at who owns that arms, he's sure that it was his fiancée whose hugging him.
"What are you thinking?" She asked him.
Conrad cleared his throat before removing her arms wrapped around his waist.
"What are you doing here?" He asked without any emotion. He walked back to his desk and didn't even look at her. He felt the woman followed him.
"Because I miss you. Is it wrong for me to visit my fiancé in his office?" She carelessly sat on his desk.
"As you can see, I'm still busy at work. You should just call if you want to talk about something."
"Why do I feel like you don't want me to come here? Or should I say you don't want to see me?" Her voice gradually became serious.
"That's not what I mean. I just don't want to waste both of our time on less important things if we can talk about it over the phone."
"So, it's such a big deal now that I came here? I wasn't informed that I can only talk to my fiancé if I have an appointment." She folded her arms then stared at him seriously.
"I'm just telling you, I'm busy. I have a lot of works. Look, if you're not busy, why don't you hang out with your friends? Not just to come here for a nonsense thing."
He seems to be running out of patience.
"What the hell is wrong with you, Conrad? Why you're making it a big deal? I'm your Fiancee, not your business partner. You don't have to treat me like this."
"Stop overreacting, Meryll."
“What? Seriously you’re telling me I’m just overreacting?"
Conrad's seemingly irritated gaze met his girlfriend's angry stare.
Even though his office was quite spacious, he felt it was very crowded because of the woman’s presence. He felt the place was so hot and he couldn’t seem to breathe.
He wanted to speak but he just restrained himself. Instead, he then walked out the door. Before it finally closed, he even heard Meryll screamed his name.
He honestly didn't know what was happening to himself. He did not want to intentionally treat Mariel that way but his body spontaneously acted on the dictates of his mind.
He knew on his own that he loved Meryll, but everything seemed to have changed between the two of them without him realizing it. And he must admit to himself it wasn't Meryll who had the problem but him.
He could no longer seem to feel in his heart the familiar feeling that only Meryll can make him feel before. The longing to be with her is already gone. Instead, it seems that avoidance is what his mind and body want to do whenever the of them are getting close just like what happened now. And it's all that he cannot understand.
Absent-mindedly, Conrad went to the roof top. He felt he needed to breathe. He needs enough air to be able to think correctly.
He focused his eyes on the things he was seeing. But none of that caught his attention. his mind still seemed to be flying.
"What seems to be the problem?" That voice came from behind him. he did not turn around, instead he put his hands in his pants pocket.
"I don't know, Dad. I'm feeling lost in Focus." he replied before bowing. "It's hard for me to think right for everything."
"What's bothering your mind?" it stood beside him and looked at where his eyes were focused. "Business? Relationships?"
"I don't know, Dad. I feel like my world is so small. I can't breathe properly."
"I met Meryll in the hallway down your office. She looks angry, are you fighting?"
"There's just a little bit of misunderstanding." He reasoned.
"I think if it's just a little misunderstanding, he won't leave your office like that and you won't be here."
"That's it, Dad. We don't understand each other anymore. Just little things, then it becomes an issue."
"Why don't you talk about it properly? Not just leaving without even having a good conversation."
"I don't think I can. Even if I explain to her she doesn't seem to understand. She's just listening to her own feelings. She's too unreasonable, and it's really exhausting."
"What I hear from what you're saying now, why do I have a feeling that something has changed between the two of you?" He calmly asked.
Conrad sighed. does it really sounds like that? Will he admit to himself or will he still deny that anything has changed?
"I don't know. I'm confused." He just answered.
"All I can advise you is, you better talk about the things that are messing with your relationship. It's better to talk this over and try to fix things before it can get to worst."
Conrad nodded reluctantly at what his father had said.
-----------
Meryll's frowning face greeted him as she opened the door.
"Why are you here?" She asked.
"I came here to talk to you just real quick." He had no expressive answer to the woman.
She sidestepped the door open to let him in.
"Come inside." Still not losing the streak of annoyance in her voice.
"No. I told you this is just really quick. I just gonna tell you this one thing."
"Okay, tell me." She faced him while still frowning.
Maybe if he's facing her like the past times, he would have placed her in his arms just to clear the frown on her face. He had always want her to smile and be happy everytime.
But he can't do it anymore. He didn't expect this day would come when he could just look her in the eyes without any feelings in his heart.
"I need some space." He said without hesitation.
By the expression on Meryll's face, she seemed to hear a deafening explosion. He knew she didn't expect those words from him. It was the last thing she wants to hear.
"Really, Conrad?" She said with her weak voice. Her eyes dimmed as she looked at him in the eyes.
"I'm sorry, but I think it's better for us to have some space in this relationship." He took a deep breath to continue what else he had to say. "Honestly, you're not the problem. I'm the one who's wrong. I can't understand myself these past few days. My mind is confused and I can't think straight."
"Is that all you're going to say when you came here? I've been waiting for you all day, hoping you would say sorry for treating me that way. Then now you're here and that's what you're going to say?" It says angrily. "You need space? For Pete's sake, Conrad! You come here and then you say you need space with those shit excuses thinking that I will accept all of it just like that? That's bullshit! "
"That's why I'm sorry."
A hard slap landed on his face as g
he said those words.
"Go to hell! If you think that I will beg you not to say those words, well you're wrong! I think space won't be enough for us, Conrad. We're through! It's over!" She said before slamming the door right before his face.
Conrad could not utter any word as he blankly face the door.
He wants to make a move and insist to her that they should talk, but standing still was the last thing he could do right now. He knew she wouldn't listen to everything he's going to say and it deeply piercing his chest.
Everything fell apart right before him and he didn't even know what to feel. He wasn't hurt, yet he wasn't felt relieved.
He's empty inside.
After collecting himself, he turned his back and walked away.Download Novelah App
