The ocean waters were especially rogue that day. It was hard to say if it was because of the weather or because Akata was distressed. He always used to be with Ruby or Jade or Roe whenever his parents had to go somewhere. Never was he left all alone, by himself, at home. This time, it was very different. His mom and Ruby, were gone. Jade was going to assist in the voyage that the foxes and the wolves were going to embark on, along with her mer-witches. The wolf King was to lead the expedition himself, leaving only the Fox king behind to defend both the territories, if anything unexpected happened back home. " Take care of yourself and take good care of your grandfather. Alright my little warrior? Can I count on you to save the day? " Lin asked, sitting on his knee, looking his son at the eye and holding his shoulder, firm. The boy nodded vigorously. " Yes, father. I will kill anybody who tries to trespass on these lands... " " Whoa! Hold on! Where did you learn that my little angel? No killing. No violence. You are a guardian. Alright? Not a mercenary. Besides, you are in charge of both the land and the sea. You should be equally considerate. No partiality. " The boy chuckled as Long tickled his belly and shuffled his hair. It was then time to say goodbye and it was hard for the little one, no matter what he said. The fleets turned Westwards as the mer-witches led the way. They were heavily armed and well prepared for battle, thinking that they might be facing some terrible adversary, totally oblivious to the fact that the real danger might just foreshadow from the back. As the troops left the kingdom and everyone went to bed after wrapping their daily affairs, the door between the living and the dead, opened. The one that was connected via the well. From the depths of the netherworld's hollow, beckoned a foreboding aura. As the moon cast a feeble glow upon its mouth, a shiver ran down the spine of the well as if it was alive. As if coming to life. Gnarled roots and slimy tendrils snaked up from its abyssal depths, like the clutching hands of a malevolent entity. As of trying to gasp something. As if trying to claim it's territory. With a haunting hiss, the first creature emerged, form it's grotesque fusion of nightmarish proportions. Its flesh, a mottled mix of decay and shadows, clinged to sinewy bones that creaked and cracked with every movement. Hollow eye sockets emitted an eerie, phosphorescent glow, casting an otherworldly light upon serrated fangs that dripped with an ichorous venom. The creature's elongated limbs scraped against the well's stone rim as it tried to taste the night air with it's bifurcated tongue. As it writhed free, a second abomination slithered forth, its body contorted into an unnatural arrangement of limbs and twisted joints. Tattered remnants of leathery wings trailled behind it. Its eyes burnt like hellfire, fixating a look of insatiable hunger, everywhere. The air grew thick with an acrid stench, a nauseating blend of decay and sulfur, as its claws raked the earth in search of prey. A hollow, mournful wail emanated from their mouths, chilling very soul and freezing blood in its tracks. Their steps were so subtle and silent that none stirred or noticed, except one. The little boy who was tucked in bed, beside his grandfather's chamber. Little Akata. The little heir. " Mama... " He suddenly sat up rubbing his eyes as if he woke up after seeing a dream. " What is it little master? " The nanny sat up and put her hand behind his back. " Are you having trouble sleeping? " The little boy shook his head. " No! " he yelled, " It's Mama. " He repeated himself, looking here and there as if looking for something, or may be someone. " She will come back. She will come back. Don't worry little master. Your father will bring her back. Now let's get you back in bed. Come on. " The maid tried her best but it was not an average child, she was dealing with here. " I said Mama is here. Let go of me, I command. " He roared like a thunder with his little voice. The room flashed with a blinding light and the next instant he was gone. " Little Master.... Prince Akata... Little Master... where did you go? What do I do? " The nanny was of wolf descent. She had no knowledge of that Fox technique Akata used. She rushed out in panick and informed the guards. An immediate drumroll of emergency followed, waking the entire palace up. The Fox soldiers tried tracking his steps but it was not an easy feat for them either. He had already mastered the art of hiding his scent from his track. The clueless guards began scouting the entire palace and some were deployed outside , around the entire kingdom. At this time the Fox king came out of his room, still dressed in his nightwear. " Father where are you going? " His sons began asking him as they saw him leave the palace, without his shoes. He was obviously lost in his thoughts and forebrooding. " Father, atleast tell us where you are going? What's in your head? " asked another. " The heart leads where it aches. The mad lover only finds peace in the arms of his lover, when he sleeps. " He kept repeating this as if it was a matra. As if he was mesmerised or hypnotised. And there he was. The Fox king went straight towards the well and standing on the rim , at the edge of the well, was the little prince. " Akata! " The boy got startled as his grandfather screamed his name. " What are you doing here my boy. It's not a good place to be at, especially at night. Come here , now. Hurry. Come to grandpa. " The boy looked at his grandfather, confused and then pointed at the well and said, " Mama! Mama went that way. "
