Chapter 19
The next morning, as the sun began to rise, I found myself still plagued by the events of the previous day. The question of why Rhea was present in that meeting continued to gnaw at me. Was she truly promoted to such a high position despite being newly hired, or did she simply insert herself into the meeting where she didn't belong? And if it was the latter, what could her motive possibly be?
As Andrei and I walked hand in hand, Matthew skipping happily ahead of us, I couldn't keep my thoughts to myself any longer. The weight of uncertainty was becoming unbearable, and I needed someone to confide in. Andrei had always been my rock, my sounding board, and I knew he would lend a sympathetic ear.
Taking a deep breath, I mustered the courage to broach the subject. "Love, can we talk about something that's been bothering me?"
He glanced at me, concerned etched on his face. "Of course, my love. What's on your mind?"
I hesitated for a moment, gathering my thoughts. "It's about Rhea. I can't shake off the feeling that her presence in that meeting was intentional, that she somehow orchestrated it. But I can't understand why she would do that. It doesn't make sense."
Andrei's brows furrowed as he mulled over my words. "I've been thinking about that too, Kathleen. It's highly unusual for someone in her position to be involved in such high-level discussions. It's almost as if she's trying to assert her authority or establish dominance."
His words struck a chord within me. "Do you think she's trying to threaten me? To make me feel inferior or inadequate?"
Andrei's grip on my hand tightened, reassuring me. "It's possible, but I hope not. Rhea might be trying to get under our skin, especially now since she might know we work together under the same company but in different departments. But remember, our love and commitment to each other are unbreakable. We won't let anyone come between us."
I nodded, trying to push away the nagging doubts that threatened to consume me. "You're right... I shouldn't let her actions affect our relationship. We'll continue to support each other and protect what we have."
As we reached Matthew's nursery school, Mia was there early and greeted us with a warm smile. We exchanged pleasantries before bidding Matthew and Mia goodbye. With a final wave, he disappeared into the colorful chaos of the classroom.
With a heavy heart, I turned to Andrei. "Thank you for being there for me. Your love and support mean everything to me."
He pulled me into a comforting embrace, sensing the unspoken fears that lingered within me. "Anytime, my love. We'll face any challenges that come our way, together. Our love is unshakeable, and no one can come between us."
I forced a smile, trying to push aside the dark thoughts that threatened to consume me. Deep down, I hoped that my fears were just figments of my imagination, that Rhea was simply an annoyance and nothing more. But the uncertainty gnawed at me, and I couldn't help but wonder if there was more to her actions than met the eye.
I couldn't shake off the feeling that Rhea's presence in our lives was more than just a coincidence. But for now, I would keep my true feelings hidden, hoping that they were nothing more than baseless worries.
As the day progressed, the weight of uncertainty continued to linger in my mind. Every interaction, every glance exchanged with Rhea, seemed to hold a hidden meaning. I couldn't help but analyze her every move, searching for clues to unravel the mystery that surrounded her.
During the lunch break, I found myself sitting alone in the company cafeteria, lost in my thoughts. The bustling noise of colleagues chatting and the clatter of cutlery seemed distant as I delved deeper into my musings. I needed answers, and I knew I had to confront Rhea directly.
Summoning my courage, I made my way to Rhea's workstation. The door was slightly ajar, and I hesitated for a moment before knocking gently. "Rhea, may I come in?"
She looked up from her desk, a hint of surprise flickering across her face. "Of course, Kathleen. Please, come in."
I entered cautiously, taking a seat opposite her. The room was adorned with sleek furniture and framed accolades, a testament to Rhea's accomplishments. It was clear that she had made a name for herself in the corporate world, but I couldn't shake off the feeling that there was more to her story.
Taking a deep breath, I decided to address the elephant in the room. "Rhea, I couldn't help but notice your presence in yesterday's meeting. It struck me as unusual, considering your recent arrival in the company. Can you shed some light on why you were there?"
Rhea's expression remained composed, her eyes meeting mine with a hint of intrigue. "Kathleen, I understand your curiosity. I apologize if my presence seemed out of place. The truth is, that I have a unique role within the company that allows me to collaborate with various departments, including the corporate team. It's part of a strategic initiative to foster cross-functional collaboration and innovation."
Her explanation seemed plausible, but doubts still lingered in my mind. "But why didn't anyone inform me about this initiative? As a member of the corporate team, I should have been aware of such arrangements."
Rhea leaned forward, her voice calm yet assertive. "Kathleen, the initiative is relatively new, and the details are still being communicated to all relevant parties. I understand your concerns, and I apologize for any confusion caused."
Her words seemed sincere, but I couldn't shake off the feeling that there was more to the story. I decided to tread carefully, not wanting to escalate the situation further. "I appreciate your explanation, Rhea. I just wanted to clarify the situation. It's important for me, I mean us, to maintain transparency and open communication within the team."
Rhea nodded, a faint smile playing on her lips. "I completely agree, Kathleen. Moving forward, I will ensure that any cross-functional collaborations are communicated promptly to avoid any misunderstandings."
With that, our conversation came to an end. As I left Rhea's office, a mix of relief and lingering doubt washed over me. I couldn't shake off the feeling that there was more to Rhea's involvement in the corporate team than met the eye. But for now, I would have to trust in the transparency and open communication promised by both Rhea and the company.
As the days went by, I kept a watchful eye on Rhea, observing her interactions and actions within the company. The uncertainty still gnawed at me, but I remained determined to protect the unity and success of our team. Only time would reveal the true intentions behind Rhea's presence, and until then, I would remain vigilant, ready to face any challenges that lay ahead.Download Novelah App
