Chapter 42
Dale Daniel's POV
Misty road, chaotic mind, aching heart.
I stepped on gas and sped up my car despite being unsure what lies ahead on the road. I am not drunk. I am just out of my mind trying to get rid of the pain devouring my heart.
Due to the thick fog around, I didn't notice the lady who crossed the road. That happened before I could even stop the car. I felt like I was sweating even it's a frigid morning. With my hands shaking, I opened my car's door. I walked towards her with unsteady feet. I felt my whole body trembling.
Lying down, unconscious. Her white dress was stained with her own blood.
Dreadfully nervous, I went closer to her. Too anxious to see her condition. Fear enveloped my system, nearly shutting down my heart and made me breathless. Oh no. What should I do? Is she dead?
When her face became apparent to my vision, my entire world collapsed. I suddenly fell down helplessly. I began crying out her name, begging her to wake up. My tears poured down continuously as the surroundings got darker.
"Zyah!" I wailed.
I instantly opened my eyes and dabbed my chest. My heart was filled with fear, beating fast. I tweaked my hair, gasping for breath.
"What kind of dream was that?" I hardly mumbled. That nearly made me lose my breath.
It is the first ever night that I have this kind of dream. I breathed out. Has something happened to her? Is she in some danger or something? I couldn't help but to worry but what can I do? I don't even know where she is. And now I even have this kind of dream. It made me anxious and worried.
I lit up my lamp on my bedside table and reached for my phone. When I unlocked it, it showed me the time, 3:12 AM.
I opened my contacts and browsed for her number. Ryle once mentioned that she didn't change her sim card. She's still using the contact number that is saved on my phone, maybe until now.
I changed my sim card but I didn't erase her contact number. Every night, I am spending time staring at her contact number but I don't have the bravery to call her. I couldn't dare. Who am I? I am just a bastard who crushed her heart even though I know that she wasn't at fault. She has nothing to do with what happened between our fathers. She's not even there!
Right now, my nightmare is troubling me. I pulled out a deep breath before tapping the call button. My hands were trembling while holding my phone close to my ears, waiting for her to answer the call.
"It's now or never."
"Hello?" A sweet voice echoed to my ears. My tears instantly escaped my eyes when I heard her talking from the other line.
Her voice never changed. I could still recognize her voice. It's still the voice that gave my heart hope and love.
"Hello?" she begged when she heard nothing from me.
I couldn't let out a word. I just listened to her. I felt a sense of relief that she sounded fine. I tightened my lips because she might suspect that I am crying.
My heart rejoiced upon hearing her voice again. It's enough. I couldn't ask for more. I don't deserve it.
"It's been a while, woman."
"Hello?" she spoke again. "Do you know me, sir?"
"Zy! Let's go!" That was Dwight's voice, echoed from the background.
So she is with her friends? It's good.
"Just a moment!" she responded. "Sir, did you call the wrong number? If you do, I'll put this down," she said next full with courtesy.
I ended the call first. It's enough already for me.
I threw my phone on my bed and hit my head. I've got mixed emotions. I felt bad and happy at the same time. Her simple "hello" played over and over again in my head. My sobs echoed to my four wall room. I just couldn't control myself from crying.
I missed her a lot. I missed everything about her. Her giggles, her jokes, her naughty personality who always love playing around. I missed the way she blushed when I locked my stares on her. I missed the way she caressed my hair and put her ponytails on my hair. I missed the way she cried and smiled over little things. I wanted to hear her heartbeats again colliding with mine when I kissed her.
"Woman, in another life, I wish I could still be your man. No matter how much life I have, I would still choose you over and over again."
"Sir Dale!" Trish shouted when I came to the building. What is with this man? Being loud this early morning.
"What?"
"Your grandma went to Boston this morning!" he said when went nearer to me.
"Oh? She didn't tell me."
"She ordered that you will take over the meeting later. The documents were in her office. You go to look for it, sir. We are not allowed to touch such things."
"Okay, what time is the meeting?"
"9 in the morning, sir."
I went straight to my grandma's place to look for the document that Trish said. I searched for it through the different apartment of her drawers. I found it on the lower part. I got all the paper I saw. It's exactly what I am looking for.
I was about to close the drawer when something caught my attention. Probably the big words "Drizzles of Yellow" that awakened my curiosity. I am dying to know something regarding that webpage and now it's right on my face. I've been eager to find out even just a little about her. And now, my curiosity will never hold me back.
I slowly opened the file and realized that this is the contract between Dreammy Pen and Petit Auteur. After flipping through some pages, what I saw next made me flabbergasted.
Signed by:
CLARRIESE ZYAH TEHRAN
I rubbed my eyes. Am I not seeing things right? It's her name that was written on the paper. Why didn't I know this sooner. She was the one who helped me without me knowing. She didn't leave. She was still there, same as before, never hesitated to give her help when I was helpless.
Seeing what she has done, leaving her own website and signing a contract with us, do I still deserve her? She's too good for me, isn't she?
Clarriese Zyah's POV
"Inkwell grabbed 1st Place and reached its highest rate for March."
I smiled when I read the headline while I was having my merienda in our yard. The Inkwell continued and soared to its highest peak. I am glad that my "Drizzles of Yellow: Journey of the Pen" goes up with them. My readers still followed my journey at Inkwell. I also received some hate for the decision I made but I didn't take them seriously. I couldn't care more about them. I have a lot of things to do.
I zoomed in his photo that was featured on the news. He's more handsome than before. In that photo, he was holding a trophy. The second photo shows how happy his team was after winning an international documentation contest. He was standing in the middle and his members were pointing at him.
Another familiar man appeared in the photo.
"Oh. It was Trish!" I said when I remembered him. The photographs show that he is quite close with Dale.
They are doing great. I am glad for his success and also for Inkwell. His hardships are now getting paid off. He deserves it best. I could still remember those days he barely got rest because he needed to deal with many matters. I witnessed how Inkwell made him worn out and sleepless. And now the world recognized his capability, I must say that he really deserves it.
I am proud of you, lalaki.
"What are you smiling at, Miss Zyah?" Lolo came closer and sat down next to me. "When do you plan to get married?"
I almost blew out the cookies I was chewing because of my grandfather's words. He immediately handed over the glass of juice to me to become my remedy.
"You always choke when you are startled, apo! You never change!" My grandfather laughed. "No one should talk to you when you are eating."
"Lolo!" I said before taking another sip of the juice drink. "You have a lot of things to say. Why do you need to say that?"
"Why? You don't have plans to get married or the groom isn't around yet?" He stared at me suspiciously.
"Lo!"
"What?" He looked at me as if he didn't understand what I meant.
I forced a smile. "Don't bring up that topic in front of me, Lolo."
"Why? Is it true that you don't have plans to marry?"
"The groom isn't around," I said slowly. I took another bite of the cookies in my mind. I couldn't hide my smile as I chewed my food.
"Is that Dale, apo?" A question from grandmother who is about to approach us.
"Ahh! Why are you two like this to me?" I pouted.
"What? What did we do to you?" Grandma took the opposite seat. She is now facing Grandpa..
"You are torturing me, both of you!" I could just face the ground. I am embarrassed to face my grandparents.
They both laughed, which made me raise my head and bravely face them.
"We are just teasing you, apo. You know, we are getting older. This is the only thing we could do to have fun."
"Lola. . . " I uttered softly, reaching for her hand and holding it. "You are about to go back to the province, don't you?"
"We spent about two months here already," Grandpa replied. "We only intended to stay here to wait for your return. And your dad came home after so many years too."
"Yes. It feels so nice to be back at home."
"That's what we really wanted to happen, to see you coming home and reunited with you father and settling everything with forgiveness," Grandma added.
"You all wanted me to go back so I was tricked that you were ill?" I asked, glaring at my grandmother.
"What matters the most is that you are now back and spoke with your father." She looked at me and smiled. "About me being ill, that's true. We came here in Dreem City to sought treatment."
"Don't do that again, Lola. I was worried to death!"
"No. No. I won't happen again," she replied, shaking her head. "By the way, we are going back in the next few days."
"What? You are going back already?"
"We couldn't stay here longer even if we wanted to," Grandpa stated. "You know we are growing cows and carabaos. I only entrusted their care to my brother. Moreover, the harvest is getting near. I need to be there."
"Can I go with you?" I pleaded.
"You really want to?" Grandpa asked.
I paused and thought. "Hmm. I really want to. It's been a while since I last went to the province. But I'll surely be occupied with work in the upcoming days."
"It's alright. You can visit there anytime. You can go with your friends if you have time. You are all welcome there," my grandmother said cheerfully.
Monday morning, we sent Grandpa and Grandma to the airport. They choose air transportation instead of travelling by sea. My grandmother is occasionally feeling dizzy. They both said that it would be a hassle for them to travel by ship.
"Take care of yourself, Lola, Lolo!" I said while waving my hand to them.
My grandfather stopped from walking and waved back. "You can visit us, anytime, Zy! Tell your friends as well! Tell them I missed them!"
"We'll try our best, Lolo!" I replied, still waving my hand.
"Zy, did you have a lover among your boy friends?" my dad suddenly asked when we were leaving the airport.
"Pa?" I uttered in surprise. Why would my dad ask me that question out of nowhere?
"Ah. Yeah!" My mom answered before I could utter a word. "It's Dale. Zyah even sent you some of his photos before!"
I gently embraced my mothers elbow. "Ma!"
"He is that—"
"Aya!" I took a deep breath. "Why are you all talking about him?"
"Ay, aren't we allowed, sweetie?" My mom asks as if she doesn't know what is happening.
"I am trying to move on already, mother!" I replied.
"You are trying? I thought you didn't have any plans!
"Mama!"
"Alright. Alright," she surrendered. "I'm off to work," she said.
"How about you, dad?" I glanced at my dad.
"I am looking for a job here. I am not going back abroad," he replied.
"Zhēn de?!"
[ Zhēn de - really ]
"Huh?" they both asked with a creased forehead.
"Ah? Really, dad?"
My father nodded in response.
"Yay!" I couldn't be happier that dad is not going far away again. We could spend more time with each other now.
I am the only one who went back home after sending off my grandparents. My parents have their own things to do. Since I didn't have a lot of things that would keep me busy, I decided to clean and fix the house. I am already done working with some drafts for my Drizzles of Yellow. I'll just send the file to the Dreammy Pen through email.
I was in the middle of sweeping the floor when I heard my phone ringing. It was Dwight who was calling. When I accept her call, I put it on loudspeaker so I could talk to her while doing my thing at the same time.
"Why are you calling me, Dwighty?" I began. "Aren't you supposed to be talking to your Ryle now?"
"He's on duty, Zyie," she replied. "Better not to disturb him."
"Lola and Lola already went back to the province."
"I know. I know. It's a pity that I couldn't see them off," she responded in a sad tone.
"Grandpa told me to tell you if you want to visit the province, we can come anytime."
"Of course, we can if we have time," she agreed instantly. "By the way, you mentioned to me that someone called you in an unregistered number, right? It didn't happen, didn't it?"
"It didn't happen again, Dwighty. Maybe that was only a coincidence. The caller maybe dialed the wrong number."
"That's good. You know there are a lot of syndicate targeting someone using that crooked old way."
I couldn't help but laugh at her words. "Your mindset is really something, Dwighty."
My conversation with Dwight continued. We had fun talking about a lot of things. After I fixed my personal belongings I decided to go to my mother's room. As I entered the room I saw my father's suitcase standing near the cabinet. It's been a few days since dad went home but his baggage seems left untouched.
I put my dad's clothes in the closet, assorting them according to their colors and types. I was about to empty his travelling bag when I saw some papers inside. With my curiosity, I took a look at what those papers are.
What I saw punched me with a big surprise. What is this? It has my dad's photo. It's clearly that it's dad in the photo but. . . why?
"Dwight?"
"What is it?"
"My dad's name is Clavey, am I right?" I asked, not being so myself. I could even hear the sound of my own heart beat.
I could hear her laughing out loud. "Are you crazy? How could you forget your dad's name?" She laughed before speaking again. "Yeah. It's Clavey."
With tension rising inside my chest, I glanced back to the paper I am holding.
"If my dad's name was Clavey, why was Harvey written on it?"Download Novelah App
