CHAPTER 19: Ace's Smart Plan

Inside the clinic of the academy, Marianne lay down on the patient bed with her parents and Derek beside her. The injury in her knee is so serious. When Marianne's parents leave the room to have a conversation with the doctor, Yoma suddenly enters the clinic and laughs at Marianne, saying, "I told you not to participate in horse racing! Look at you now, you look horrible!" "Hey, Yoma!" Derek shouted at Yoma. Marianne felt embarrassed and just looked down to avoid Yoma's gaze. Yoma then smirked at her, saying, "Ace didn't even care about you. He's your scroll partner, yet he can't even give a second thought." "Ace needs to win! He needs it more than me," Marianne said to her. "Well, really? So that means he doesn't love you as his scroll partner?" Yoma asked. "We're just friends, and one day, we'll cancel that wedding!" Marianne shouted at Yoma. "Oh ho ho, nice," Yoma smirked as she made her way out. When Yoma made her way out, Derek looked at Marianne and asked, "You don't love Ace?" Marianne looked at Derek and blinked twice before replying, "No..?" Derek took the opportunity and whispered, "So that means I still have a chance with you." Before Marianne could respond, Ace entered the room and interrupted the conversation, saying coldly, "In your dreams, Derek."
Derek immediately made his way out when Ace entered the room. As Derek finally couldn't be seen around, Ace closed the door and approached Marianne. He gently took her hand and kissed it, saying, "I apologize." Marianne swiftly pulled her hand out and responded, "Already Forgiven." "By the way, congratulations," she added. Ace gazed at her and handed her the trophy he had just won in the horse racing. "What is this?" Marianne asked as she accepted the trophy. "Keep that for me," Ace said coldly. Marianne nodded in response as Ace continued to speak, "I checked the horse you rode earlier, and it was in perfect condition." "What do you mean?" Marianne asked. "I suspect that someone might have attacked you secretly, but I don't know who it is," Ace responded. "When I checked the back part of your horse, I saw that it had a stain of water, which means the one who attacked you has the ability to manipulate water," Ace continued. Marianne blinked twice upon hearing this information. "Royals commonly unlock their powers when they are around the age of 13 or 14, and the one who attacked you might be in that age range," Ace explained to Marianne. "So, that means it's possible that the one who attacked me is just racing with us or maybe watching us in the midst of the crowd?" Marianne asked. "Yes," Ace responded coldly.
Suddenly, Derek entered the room and interrupted, "I have a suspicion that it was Nathan!" Derek exclaimed. Ace gazed at Derek and asked coldly, "How long have you been eavesdropping on us?" Derek smiled awkwardly and responded, "Uh... I was just curious about the common conversations of scroll partners." Ace was about to say something when Marianne suddenly interrupted, "Hey, how can you say that it was Nathan all along?" she asked. Derek took a moment to gather his thoughts and explained, "You see, I saw that you were attacked by water, and the water came from behind me. When I watched the preview, I noticed that there was a fat boy behind me, and behind that fat boy was Nathan." "What if it's that fat boy?" Ace asked coldly. Marianne quickly interjected, "Hey, stop jumping to conclusions! We're not sure if it's that fat boy or Nathan!" Ace paused for a moment and then asked, "You said that you watched the preview, does the water's origin cannot be seen?" Derek replied, "No, it cannot be seen in the preview, and besides, the previews are blurry." "What if we just asked Nathan and the fat boy?" Marianne suggested. Ace and Derek exchanged a glance, their expressions suggesting that they thought it was a foolish idea. "No, we can't. What if one of them denies it?" Ace responded coldly, dismissing the suggestion. "Yeah, you're right. So, what are your plans, Ace?" Marianne asked. "The event is still not over yet, so the fat man and Nathan are surely still here. I suggest we observe the two suspects from afar," Ace said. Marianne and Derek exchanged confused whispers, unsure of what was going on in Ace's mind.
Ace let out a gentle sigh as he explained, "Derek and I will observe the two suspects. We need to find out who possesses the water manipulation power." Marianne raised a valid concern, "What if they both have that power?" Ace shook his head, "No, it's impossible. Each of us has a unique power." "What if they are not going to show their power?" Derek asked. Marianne agreed, saying, "Yeah, that's a valid concern." Ace pondered for a moment before responding, "In that case, we'll give them a surprise attack. If they have powers, they'll instinctively use them to protect themselves." Derek and Marianne nodded their heads, unsure of what to say in response to Ace's plan. "Derek, you will observe and attack Nathan, while I'll go after the fat guy," Ace continued. "What?!" Derek exclaimed in surprise. "Marianne is injured, so you'll have to do it," Ace responded coldly, emphasizing the necessity of the situation. "I mean, Nathan is so mean! Why me?!" Derek asked in frustration. Ace took a deep breath before responding, "Nathan sees me as his lifelong rival. He is the president, and I'm the son of the principal. It's my duty to show respect to him, given my position as the principal's son." Derek's concern grew, and he stammered, "B-but... how? I might end up being punished!" "Just act like you did it on accident, and not on purpose," Ace suggested. Derek's face lit up with a mischievous smile as he heard the idea. "Oohh~ that's a great idea!" Derek exclaimed, clearly pleased with the plan.
