CHAPTER 9: The Entrance Exam
Two months had passed, and the day of the entrance exam at Harrington's Royal Academy had finally arrived. Ace and Marianne arrived at the academy together. However, when the exam began, Ace and Marianne went their separate ways. This was because Ace was one year older than Marianne and would be placed in a different grade at Harrington's Royal Academy. Ace finished his exam early and decided to use his power to check on Marianne. As he glanced at her exam papers, he noticed that some of her answers were incorrect. "Tsk," he whispered in disappointment. Ace then subtly influenced Marianne's thoughts, urging her to change her answers. Unaware that it was Ace guiding her, Marianne trusted her instincts and made the changes. She believed it was just a gut feeling telling her to do so. When Ace noticed that Marianne was changing her answers, he let out a gentle sigh. "Pass your papers! Finished or not." the teacher called out. Ace promptly handed his completed exam to the teacher and walked out of the room. As he made his way outside, he unexpectedly bumped into Derek, his former irritating classmate. "Oh, hi, Ace! Long time no see, remember me? It's Derek!" Derek greeted Ace enthusiastically. Ace, somewhat indifferent, acknowledged him, "Ah yeah, I remember." He continued walking towards the exit. Derek persisted and followed him, "Hey Ace, I can't believe you finished your exam so early. You're really smart!" he exclaimed. Ace responded curtly, "Ah yeah, thanks." Ace came to a halt outside a room where Marianne was. Derek accidentally bumped into Ace and exclaimed, "Ow! Why did you stop?" Ace remained silent, his gaze fixed on Marianne inside the room, patiently waiting for her. Derek, noticing Ace's focus, inquired, "Oh, do you have a younger sister here?" Ace and Derek waited outside the room until the exam was over. When Marianne finally emerged, Derek was instantly smitten by her beauty, experiencing love at first sight. "Woah, that girl is so beautiful!" he exclaimed. However, Derek was taken aback when Marianne approached Ace. "Wow, you waited for me!" she said. Derek couldn't contain his surprise and blurted out, "Wha—?! Are you two relatives?!!!" Ace glanced at Derek and replied, "No, we're not relatives." Marianne, curious, asked Ace about Derek, to which Ace simply replied, "Just a former classmate." Derek, still trying to make sense of the situation, exclaimed, "If you two aren't relatives, then you must be under the power of the scroll?!!!" Ace responded in a cold tone, "Yeah." Ace and Marianne started walking away, with Ace informing Derek, "If you don't mind, we need to go." Derek couldn't help but feel a sense of despair as his first crush seemed to be taken. However, Derek tried to console himself, believing that Marianne was merely under the influence of the scroll. Determined, he whispered to himself, "She is just under the power of the scroll! True love will prevail!" As Ace and Marianne walked through the hall, the students couldn't help but stare at them in awe. Their attractive faces and overall appearance caught everyone's attention. Unbeknownst to them, they had unintentionally become the "it" couple of Harrington's Royal Academy, the center of attention and the subject of admiration among their peers. As Ace and Marianne made their way through the hall, whispers and gossip filled the air. "They look good together!" some exclaimed. Others confessed their admiration, saying, "I like Ace! I love him!" The girl's charm didn't go unnoticed either, as someone commented, "That girl is so cute!" Rumors spread like wildfire, with speculations about them being under the influence of the scroll. Amidst all the chatter, there were hopeful voices expressing, "I hope they'll get together soon!" The hall and every place they passed by buzzed with excitement and curiosity. Despite the gossip and whispers surrounding them, Ace and Marianne chose to ignore the noise. While Ace was aware of the situation, Marianne couldn't help but feel anxious, thinking that people were saying negative things about them. Sensing her unease, Ace gently placed his hand on her head, trying to provide comfort and reassurance. His gesture aimed to calm her and let her know that they were in this together. As the students witnessed Ace's comforting gesture towards Marianne, their reactions escalated to a whole new level. Excited screams and thrilled exclamations filled the air. "Kyaaa~!! They're a couple!!! It's confirmed!!" some shouted in delight. However, amidst the excitement, there were also voices of disappointment, with someone exclaiming, "No!!! Ace is mine...!!!" Others couldn't contain their admiration, gushing, "Ahhh~!!! They look so cute..!!!" The enthusiasm reached such heights that someone even exclaimed, "I want to be the priest in their wedding..!!!!" The hall was filled with a mix of joy, longing, and anticipation for what the future held for Ace and Marianne. Marianne and Ace headed to the canteen together to have lunch before their second exam. They found a table and sat down, enjoying their meal in each other's company. However, as they ate, they couldn't help but notice the constant stares from their fellow students. All eyes were on them, unable to look away from the pair that had captured the attention and curiosity of the entire school. Derek unexpectedly joined Ace at the table, greeting him with a friendly "Hey Ace, what's up?" He placed his tray on the table and engaged in conversation. "Are you excited for the next exam?" he inquired. Expressing his desire, he added, "I hope we'll be classmates this school year!" Ace replied with a simple "Yeah" as he continued eating. Derek, pleased with the friendly response, exclaimed, "Yay, what a friendly response!" Turning his attention to Marianne, he extended a friendly greeting, "Hi there, may I know your name?" Marianne introduced herself, saying, "Hi, I'm Marianne." Derek eagerly took Marianne's hand for a handshake and introduced himself, saying, "Wow, my name's Derek! It's nice to meet you!" Ace's expression turned into one of anger as he glared at Derek. He swiftly moved to sit beside Marianne, taking on the role of caring for her. With a gentle tone, he started feeding her, saying, "Hey, eat this, you need this." Marianne obediently ate the food as Ace continued to feed her. However, Derek couldn't help but feel jealous and decided to sit beside Marianne as well. He commented on the food, saying, "Oh, that's too much dried food! Here, drink this!" Derek attempted to make Marianne drink a glass of milk, seemingly trying to compete with Ace in taking care of her.
