Chapter 37: Weather

Samantha was still googling with her stare. Both were frozen, keeping themselves still. Silence pined over them but then suddenly the sudden sound of echoing thundered made their bodies jolt. Samantha was shocked.
Gregory eyed her. “There’s a thunderstorm coming, Sam.” He proceeded to let her know about the weather.
“I didn’t know.” She whispered. She was still seemed to be in shock.
“Are you afraid of thunder?” Gregory asked her. He looked at her with worry in his eyes.
Samantha chose to stare at his eyes. “The night my parents died in the car crash, there was a storm.” She started to feel cold upon thinking about it. Gregory went closer to her. He scooted.
They were centimeters closer now. Eyes were both fixated to each other.
Samantha opened her lip again to continue. “I was in my room and it was raining heavily that time. I was already alarmed with the storm warning.” She suddenly formed her fingers into a fist, putting pressure. She closed her eyes for a bit before she flashed them open once again.
“I didn’t know they were coming home. They ventured out of the city to negotiate for the reconstruction of our old villa back on their hometown. I didn’t know…” Her eyes started to hurt. That all she can do is sigh.
“The sounds of thunder can be heard around the corner and there were flashes of lightning…” She stared straight back into Greg’s eyes. “I got a call informing me that my parents were involved in a car crash. They were rushed into the hospital but were declared dead on arrival.” Samantha stated.
She closed her eyes once again. She recalled on the thought of Grace too. “My sister was on the other side. She was on the other room. I was afraid of thunder but I rushed outside of my room to go and tell her. I still managed to still tell the news despite of being unable to process it.”
Gregory pulled her close , pulling her into his embrace. His head was resting on the top of her head while Samantha’s breath was fanning in his neck. Samantha wrapped her arms on him. She hugged him back.
“Gregory.” She called him. She gently uttered his name.
“Shhh.” He shushed her. “Just stay still, Sam. Stir your mind away from the gruesome incident that happened.” He sighed. “I don’t like seeing you being unhappy.”
“But what about?” Samantha asked. “You were shock. You also jolted a while ago upon hearing the thunder.”She stopped and took a pause. “ You were afraid, Greg.” She affirmed.
“Let’s not talk about me, Sam. This is about you for now.” Gregory answered.
“But…” Sam sounded like she was protesting.
“Sam, please. Not for now.” It was a plea which made Samantha shut her mouth.
A lot of questions started to come inside her head. She really wanted to ask him and why he looked so scared.
“Promise to tell me about this one, okay?” She spoke. There was no answer from Gregory. “Greg.”
A sigh came out of Gregory. His embrace became tighter. “I will, Sam.” He answered.
He pulled away and stared at her. “I will tell you everything that you wanted to know, Sam. I promise.”
Samantha nodded her head at him. “I will hold unto that.” She replied.
They both lay in bed. Gregory then pulled Sam and let her head rest in his laid arms on the pillows. She moved her head and frowned at him, the latter only smiled at her.
“You wrist will be hurt. The weight of my head is heavy.” She told him.
A manly smirk appeared on his face. “I can take it Sam. Don’t worry.” He suddenly grinned at her.
She then smiled too before letting her head rest. She turned her body and hugged him. Gregory did the same. They stayed in that position before they drifted off to go to sleep.
Morning came and Samantha made a small movement. She heard Gregory’s voice. He was talking to someone. His back was turned away from her. She went still and listened. A whine came from the other line.
“I meet you some other time.” Gregory spoke. “No, Sofi. You can stay on the penthouse.” A sigh came out of Gregory’s mouth. “You can’t, Sofia. You stay there.”
Samantha closed her eyes. In her mind, she wanted to know the person behind the phone call. But she lay still, pressed her eyes close and gripped the sheet. She can feel his presence coming near towards her. A soft touch in her head was made by Gregory. A kiss was suddenly planted on the top of her forehead.
Gregory was uttering inaudible murmurs Samantha couldn’t decipher…
A few seconds passed and the sound of shutting of the door was heard by Samantha’s ears. She then opened her lids. She brought herself to rose from the bed. She was sitting. She couldn’t believe what had just happened.
Does this mean that there’s a woman In Gregory’s life without her knowing? Is she cheating on her? Or did he already had the love of her life even before he agreed to marry her?
Samantha tilted her head. She began to massage the crane of her neck because of stress. She suddenly feel like she’s reeling. Another strong emotions was felt by her. Samantha brought her fingers to touch her chest. She let her hand feel the beating of her heart before she made gentle taps.
A new realization hit her.
The pang was fast. The clenched of her heart was fast. She then started to question it. She was staring at the floor before she stood and went close to the window. She cleared the drapes again and opened them. She can see the golden yellow hues rising again. The sun is starting to come out of hiding. The clouds are slowly dissipating, paving the way for the sun to be on full grow of its glory. She wrapped her hands around herself and watched the view.
A new dawn is finally starting to rise…
