Chapter 52: Toss

The emcee was preparing. Samantha was eyeing her friend Cassidy and Hickary who seemed to fancy themselves with the thought of standing to include themselves for the bouquet toss. Samantha thought for how she wanted to be in it too but then she smiled. She wasn’t able to be in it because the will happened first.
Her adopted parents will. It was their will but it turned out to be something better for her.
The air of the candlelit dinner brought life; it was what Samantha thought upon realizing the vibe of the entire dinner. The emcee suddenly seized to spend his attention to the microphone. Samantha thought how the emcee did his part for being prepared. The creativity and enthusiasm should be complimented towards what he had shown.
**
*The emcee was testing the microphone before speaking.
Emcee: “Okay everyone, let us all have some fun for now is the time for the traditional bouquet throw. At this point we would like to request all of the single ladies in here to please come forward for the bouquet toss.”
*His eyes went towards the bride
Emcee: “We would also like to request the bride to come forward and take her place towards the center stage.
*He then motioned all the ladies to step in front.
Cassidy was excited. She snapped a finger and stared at Samantha, making a fist with her knuckles as she smiled and hurriedly paced. Hickary threw her cousin an eye roll but then she smiled at Sam when their eyes meet. She went towards the spot for the bouquet throw too.
Samantha was smiling. She then let her eyes went towards Gregory who caught her attention when he slipped his fingers to hold to her hand.
“How about you? You don’t want to join them?” Gregory asked.
She shook her head. Samantha smiled back at him. “I am happily married. There’s no need to join for the bouquet toss, love.” She answered him. She held his hand. “Because I already have you.” Samantha smiled as she replied.
Gregory’s lips were moving, quivering for a bit before a full smile was on his lip. His eyes were happy. Samantha saw how his eyes reflected what he was feeling at the moment. She reached for his fingers, threading her own to intertwined their hands together. Gregory’s smile widened upon feeling what she was doing…
*The emcee held unto his microphone, bringing it closer towards his chest. He was waiting for all the ladies to settle themselves on the spot.
Emcee: “Ladies kindly take your place behind the bride.” (He was smiling at the women, showing his bare teeth.
: “Be prepared to catch the bouquet, ladies. It is said that whoever catches the bouquet will be the next bride who will walk down the aisle. So, everyone in? Ready when you are. At the count of three the bride will throw her bouquet. May I also request the audience to please join me in the counting?”
**
“The ladies looked competitive. It’s giving something like a danger game is happening.” An elder woman on the side talked.
Samantha heard her. She was sitting talking to a girl with a short bob cut hair. The latter smiled. It was a small smile.
“Why don’t you go? Join them.” The older woman urged the girl again. The lady only shook her head. This time her smile stretched for a bit.
“With elbows and stiletto heels probably flying around? You already said Aunty how competitive the women were. What they were wearing might probably fly around while they try their best to covet that bouquet they were aiming to have.” She straightened her posture before she stared at the women.
“Some of them do really look greedy. Like the bouquet is some type of food they were hungry to have. Like an eye candy of some sort if it’s a man.” She rested her back on the chair upon adding another more of her words towards what’s happening in front.
Samantha simply concealed the smile for herself upon hearing the conversation. Her eyes were focused towards the front, waiting for the next thing that will happen.
**
The emcee was ensuring that everyone is in place.
Emcee: “Ready when you are ladies. Let us now do the countdown. One…. Two…. Three…. And there it goes.”
The bride finally had thrown the bouquet. It stayed in the air for a few seconds. Almost all the eyes of the audience were settled on the thing before it landed. It landed and none of the ladies who participated got the bouquet. It earned gasps and murmurs from the audience when they saw that it was a guy. A guy caught the bouquet.
Some of the ladies looked grim and sulky.
Samantha even saw how Cassidy was frowning, with her fuming annoyed expression as her hands were on her waist. She was glaring at the guy who caught the bouquet before she huffed. She then walked out immediately. She then walked back, heading towards their table not having any tolerance to what had happened. Hickary on the other hand, she looked puzzled. Almost as if she was taken aback from what she saw. But then she was fast enough to process the situation. Hickary smiled at the scene.
Samantha smiled too. Well, it was an unexpected one. She almost couldn’t believe something like this could happen. She then recalled what the older woman and the girl talked about. On how competitive the ladies were for the bouquet but now, not a single one of them was able to catch it.
It was ironic. It was absurd. And it was quite shocking. She then beamed and straight up stare towards Gregory on the side who then gave his eyes to meet her gaze. She smiled at him.
“This is quite new.” She talked.
Gregory agreed.
He was smiling back at her. “It’s quite new. Something you don’t really get to see happening but now it’s happening.” He replied at her. He seemed displaying a dazzled expression too.
