CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO (IS IT WORTH IT?)

Lalaine smirked and walked towards Lace.
“Have you considered thinking about yourself first before you protect this useless lass?” she asked and gave Lace a slap. Blood once again came out of the latter’s mouth. Lace smirked back and spitted on the ground.
“You are weak Lalaine. And you’re a fool as well.” she said that made Lalaine lift her hand and slap her again. She had become numb because of the continuous torture she received.
“You’re being fooled. Your brother… he’s actually alive.” she said.
"Are you a fool?! We all saw how he jumped off that tall building just because Taylor rejected her!” Lalaine yelled and swayed the sword she’s holding. A deep cut was given to Lace’s left leg. But instead of crying because of pain, Lace laughed.
“The one that was sent to hurt this lass is actually Liam. He was saved by someone but was controlled. And you know what? He even asked for his own death because he wants to break free. Unlike his sister. Pwe!” Lace said and spitted once again.
“Liar! You’re lying!” Lalaine shouted and was about to slap her again when a hand patted her shoulders.
“Relax a bit.” the man said. He then assisted Lalaine and made her sit down.

“Aren’t you tired? Why don’t you sleep for a bit?” The man then asked Lace and used a device that emits electricity to lull her to sleep.
“Are we here now?” Taylor asked. Joey had brought them to an old warehouse. They walked out of the car and Joey breathed in deep, thinking that Taylor had spared him.
“Go inside first. I just wanna make sure that you are worth my mercy.” Taylor said and made him walk ahead. He walked with difficulty because of the deep cuts on both of his legs. When he reached the entrance of the warehouse, two more men came to assist him. That’s when an arrow sprang out of somewhere and stabbed the back of Joey. The arrow was not an ordinary arrow. It has an explosive device planted on it, and in a matter of seconds, it explodes, turning Joey’s and the other men’s bodies into chopped chunks of flesh. The people inside heard the explosion and one of them shouted.
“We’re located!” he shouted and ran around.
“Good. Entertain our guests well.” The man said and smirked then turned his head towards Nathanya.
“You heard him? Your savior has come. But will she choose you in place of this friend of hers?” he asked and laughed. Lace was now conscious as well after hearing the explosion in the entrance.
"Go tie them both." He ordered and four men came rushing to obey. Meanwhile, back ups from Blake's and Brawlers had come.
"I'll bring my unit on the back. Trix, bring your unit to the left side. The two of you know what to do." Drake instructed and signaled for his subordinates to follow him. Trix did the same and Taylor and Briana were left. Taylor walked straight and Briana was following her. As they walk, arrows and heads keep on falling down the ground. Phoenix and Raven were now covered with blood and Taylor's aura was really dark and scary. They were half their way through the warehouse when a familiar figure blocked their way.
"Hello there. What righteous thing did we do in the past to deserve the visit of the great Taylor?" Ashely Joy asked.
"I am not surprised to see you here." Taylor said then smirked.
"You know why I'm here? Well, let me tell you. It's because I'm jealous of you." Ashely said.
"Jealousy is a terrible disease lady. Get well soon." Taylor answered and Briana laughed.
"Don't brag about your intelligence in throwing back lines to me." Ashely said and rolled her eyes.
"I wanna tell you something. Beauty might be dangerous. But intelligence is lethal. Sadly, you don't have any of them." Taylor mocked her. Hearing what the other party had said, Ashley's blood reached its boiling point. She charged towards Taylor but Briana was quick. She quickly loaded her crossbow and fired towards the right leg of Ashely. The arrow hit its target place and Ashely lost her balance. She stumbled on the ground, letting out a cry of pain at the same time. Taylor was about to behead her when a voice interrupted her.
"What kind of guests disturb the peacefulness of the owner's house?" Lalaine asked.
"Can you still remember me?" She asked Taylor.
"Please tell me about yourself. I enjoy horror stories." Taylor answered her and she almost jumped off to attack Taylor. But she held everything in and tried calming herself. Just as she was about to lose it, a man walked from behind her.
"Hello there." The man greeted them. Taylor rolled her eyes and smirked.
"So this explains why hell is empty. Turns out that all the devils are here." Briana said.

"Is that so? So you've been to hell. Well I am not surprised anymore since Satan is standing right beside you." The man said then looked at Taylor.
"Taylor my dear. It's so nice to see you."
"I am also glad to see myself. I wanna tell you to go to hell. But I don't wanna see you there." Taylor answered.
"HAHA. Hell is the highest reward that the devil can give you for being a servant of his. I am not surprised." The man answered while laughing.
"Wrong. There's actually a place in hell reserved just for me. It's called THE THRONE." Taylor answered and the smirk on her face looked scarier.
"Oh yeah. I forgot. Then I'll be your king there. What's a queen without a king, right?" The man asked again.
"What's a queen without a king? Historically speaking, more powerful." Taylor answered.
"Taylor, my dear. You're driving me crazy. How about you kneel down now and beg me? Maybe I can show you some mercy." The man suggested.
"I would rather die on my feet than to live on my knees." Taylor said.
"Is that so? How about I give you some reason to do so?" The man asked. Taylor and Briana's gaze moved upward when two bodies tied with rope were hanged up. One is Nathanya and the other one is Lace.
"You punk. Put them down now!" Briana shouted after seeing the two.
"Is that an order? You're not allowed to control the game buddy." The man said.
"Taylor, Taylor, Taylor. If you'll only open your heart for me, I will be glad to let them be free. But sadly, you have a cold heart. You will not let me prove myself. How about I let you watch how these two dies. Wouldn't that be the sweetest revenge in history?" The man said. Taylor's patience was running low and she was about to burst and explode in anger.
"But since I am a righteous person, I will let you choose one of them to save. Will you choose this weakling who's been with you for about five weeks or these silent killer who's been with you for five years. Go ahead. The choice is yours honey." The man added. Taylor's jaw clenched and she already lost every single patience she had reserved in her.

"Claude Peterson!" She yelled and was about to attack when a body suddenly fell down.
"Lace!" Briana exclaimed and immediately ran towards her. Lace had silently untied the rope that was wrapping her and caused her to fall down.
"Why did you do this?! Hey! Open your eyes! Lace!" Briana said while crying. Lace was coughing mouthfuls of blood. Taylor also approached them.
"You. What have you done?!" She yelled as she held Lace on her lap.
"Shh. I just solved the problem." Lace started, vomiting blood.
"You… you don't have… to choose. Go save that weakling. I can't… I can't…"she was trying to say something but because of the blood coming out of her mouth, it was very difficult. Nathanya and Briana were now crying.
"Sshh. Don't talk. Don't talk anymore. We'll get you out of here. Hold on." Taylor desperately said as she tried to silence her. She is wiping the blood that's coming out of her subordinate's mouth. Lace held her hand tightly. She shook her head then smiled.
"I… I can't anymore… it's… it's too painful… I want to sleep… but please tell me one thing… is it worth it? Am I worth it?... I didn't disappoint you, didn't I? You do not regret saving me, didn't you?" Lace asked with difficulty.
"No… you are worth it. And I will never regret that I saved you. So please. Hold on." Taylor answered. There's no tears that were coming out of her eyes but the fear of losing someone close to her again was very evident.
Hearing her response, Lace smiled. She could finally rest, she thought. She slowly closed her eyes, tears rolling down and blood coming out of her mouth.

"No! Lace! No!" Briana shouted but Lace couldn't hear her anymore. She's dead. Taylor's vision had turned dark; she laid Lace's body onto Briana's lap then stood up.
"No one will come out here alive." She said and unsheathed both her katanas.
