"She has been threatening me since yesterday all along and I don't know what to do, she have something she is using against me which I cannot disclose not even to you, she said that I must stop school and join prostitution to make money for her, I don't know what to do, Deborah" Maryam broke the shocking never expected news to Deborah. "What..? please tell me that you are not serious about this which you just?" Deborah responded in surprise of hearing that. "What are you saying? why should I be joking with such! honestly I am serious about this and and I am frustrated already" Maryam responded then Deborah stopped and looked at Maryam. "Then it has gotten to the extent where you have to do something! you can't just keep silent and die away!" Deborah said placing her hand on Maryam's shoulder in encouragement. "Deborah and honestly don't know what to do...? what do you want me to do?" She asked as Deborah widens her eyes. "You can't be serious! what are you still waiting for... you have to report them to the police right away!" Deborah suggested but just immediately she was picking out that statement Maryam quickly interrupted her. "Deborah I just told you few minutes ago that there is something that they are using against me which I can't disclose" she replied and Deborah was left gazing at her silently she halted walking as she doesn't know what to say. "What exactly could that be that you can't even tell your best friend...? you can always share your problem with me, you know that we both share the same grief, so I will never do anything to hurt you at this your condition" Deborah asked as Maryam kept on insisting. "I'm very sorry Deborah but like I said before this is a matter I have chosen to keep to myself, you are right, you wouldn't do anything to hurt me but you will when I tell you about this" Maryam kept insisting. "People that have made me promises even more than you do later on hate me because of it, after I have told them everything so I am sorry you are the only one I have left now and I am scared to lose you as well" Maryam replied and then Deborah knew that she doesn't have to dig any further since Maryam have already made her choice. But it could have been better she tell Deborah everything because Deborah as well shares similar grief with her but it is her choice though. "Alright, I understand why you are scared but you should know that I'm still free, whenever you feel like, I'm now capable of you telling me what it is so, you are free to reach out" "So we can try to solve it together, I am still your best friend and I'm not going to forsake you at any day just the same way you wouldn't forsake me for anything" Deborah responded and Maryam breathes out in a sense of gratitude. "Thank you very much Deborah without you I don't know what I would have done, good friends are hard to find and you are the best" Maryam responded with gratitude. While they continue taking a little walk around. "but Deborah I don't understand, about you, can you at least put on some new clothes I think it is becoming too much" She said not being satisfied with Deborah's appearance. "Maryam, honestly you wouldn't understand what I am going through, I mean the clothes you are talking of is the best clothe I have" Deborah responded. "My auntie haven't bought me new clothes since I came to the city with her, it was the clothes I came to the city with, from the village that I am still using" Deborah added. "And her husband he isn't doing anything about it?" Maryam asked while Deborah shrugged her shoulders. "Well, I haven't been giving real opportunities to talk with her husband, what ever that is happening to me I am not blaming him and I count him out" Deborah said as she removed her bag that is stressing her from her back and then put it on her front grabbing it like a teddy bear. And Maryam as well kept on waiting positively to hear the full story but it seems like Deborah have concluded her story already so Maryam decided to ask by herself. "So, why exactly would you be counting her husband out of it...? I mean you shouldn't be there and all these should be happening on with you no matter what" Maryam said while Deborah waves her head and arranged her bag once again. "Because he is not always at home, he is always on a trip to work he always comes around on weekend and at midnight" "Though he really always do talk about my appearance and bought some new clothes for me but my auntie always collect them from me, and threaten me not to say a word about it to her husband" she concluded her statement. Maryam wanted to say a word but held back, it was more like she was pushing herself to say it out but she just decided to forget it. "I can see you are trying to say something? what is it?" Deborah asked why then Maryam stopped walking and gazes at her continuously. "Nothing much, but I was just thinking if he was the one that bought it for you, why don't him ask why you are not putting it on when he is around, I mean when he finally set his eyes on you again" Maryam asked. "I have told you that I barely get the chance to see him, the little time he sees me, his mind is not always there so I'm telling you that most times he gets his eyes on me and discover how disorganise I look, he buys new clothes for me or give me money to buy new ones but my auntie always happens" Deborah responded. "It's fine Deborah, can you follow me home after school? I have some clothes I would like to give to you, they are still good, I believe you will love them" Maryam said. "Come on Maryam, you know I will probably not reject that but we will have to be fast because I don't want to go home late or my auntie will punish me for that" Deborah responded acceptedly and thankfully with her facial expression which was saying it all. "Of course, you shouldn't be reminding me of that, I know that already" Maryam responded. • • • Later On. Deborah is just returning home and she is obviously late because she went to collect the clothes which Maryam promised her. She's trembling while returning because she knows that she is in deep trouble. So when she got home, before she step into the house she took in a deep breath and calmed herself down before opening the door. And just opening the door her auntie is there sitting on the coach why gazing deadly at her. "Welcome to your deathday Deborah" her auntie said to her and she is already panicking in fear because she's gone, for her auntie to make that statement, she's finished.
