Chapter 46 - Her Majesty's Conclusion

**FLASHBACK**
The day when Vanessa and Keelan were summoned by the Queen Mother...
Vanessa's POV
When Keelan stepped out of Her Majesty's chamber, his brows were furrowed and his head was cocked a bit to the side.
"What happened? Why are you making that face?" I asked.
Keelan turned his gaze at me and came near me. He put his hands on my head, and then he mumbled, "I don't think it's interesting at all," as he shook his head.
He sighed heavily as he pulled back his hands. What did he just do?
"What's. . . with you?" I asked as I wrinkled my nose and forehead.
"Nothing," he said as he laughed, then he bent forward and whispered to my ear, "Queen Mother thinks that my head is interesting."
I stared at him blankly as I made a cuckoo gesture. "You sound crazy, do you know that?"
Before Keelan could reply, Queen Mother ordered her attendant to let me in.
Keelan and I nodded to each other before I entered Her Majesty's chamber.
I greeted Queen Mother as I bowed before her.
"Vanessa, dear, I heard my son took a liking to you. How do you feel about that?"
"I feel honored, Your Majesty," I answered nervously.
Queen Mother walked around me slowly. "Do you feel the same way? Do you have the desire to be the next queen?"
I bowed my head as I responded, "I do like His Majesty, but I do not have the desire to be the next queen."
Where was this conversation going? Was Keelan right? Would she be telling me to stay away from Carl? Did she tell Keelan to stay away from him?
Queen Mother chuckled. I raised my head, she was now in front of me again. "I hope we mean the same thing. I was asking you if you like the King romantically."
I was about to answer her but she cut me off and said, "never mind, dear. You will never be together anyway."
That was sudden. I didn't like Carl romantically, I never thought of him like that, but why was I disappointed to hear that?
"Just be sure not to make him think that you have feelings for him. I wouldn't want my son to be heartbroken if by any chance he finds out that you once loved Keelan."
My eyes widened. "H-how? How did you know about that?"
She smirked. "I know everything, dear."
How did she know that? Did Her Majesty have a record of our past? Because if not, where did she get this piece of information about me?
"Do you want me to tell you something more interesting?" she asked with a half-smile.
I didn't answer her but she continued anyway. "Did you know that you were mismatched to another man?"
My eyes got bigger than before. "What. . . what do you mean, Your Majesty?"
What did she mean by that? Was she telling me that Harry wasn't originally my match? That we were mismatched? Like how Keelan did to Eurivin?
"Harry wasn't your match. It was Keelan. Keelan Miller," she uttered in a low soft tone that almost sounded like she was sympathizing with me.
I let out a puff as I shook my head in disbelief. "Your Majesty, why are you saying this to me?"
"Do you want to hear a more shocking truth?" she said, ignoring my question. "The cupid who mismatched you to Harry was Eurivin."
I shook my head. "No, I think that is a mistake, Your Majesty. How is that possible? Eurivin is our daughter."
Suddenly, Queen Mother placed her hands on my head. After a few moments, I froze as the flashes of scenes played in my head.
A woman who looked like Eurivin—but with blonde hair—committed the sin of breaking the number one rule among matchmaker cupids.
The 27th King declared her crime. "Heart Cupid, the Princess of the Cupid Kingdom, you have mismatched Theressa Gomez to another man named Harry Redwoods, instead of her original match named Keelan Miller. With the power bestowed upon me as a king, I announce you a sinner, a breaker of the first rule among matchmaker cupids!"
The Princess was pleading for her innocence but there was no proof that she didn't do it. She was declared a sinner. She was dragged down to hell by two men wearing black cloaks—the death angels.
As soon as the Queen Mother released her hands on my head, my butt plopped down to the floor and my tears fell to my cheeks. Panting, I was stunned by what I had learned. Keelan was my original match. He was supposed to be the man I was going to marry, not that bastard Harry.
Keelan and I were in a 10-year relationship, we were so much in love with each other, but one day, my boss suddenly asked me out and I surprisingly agreed without giving it a thought. I was Harry's secretary at that time and I fell in love with him. I cheated on Keelan. I was still seeing him when I started dating Harry. We had been seeing each other for three months when I finally decided to break up with Keelan. I cheated on him for three months! I didn't know what came to me. How could I do that to the man who had never done anything but loved me?
After the day of my wedding, I learned through the news that he got into an accident on my wedding day. I felt responsible for his death. It was my fault that he died. All this time, I was blaming myself for everything that happened—but it turned out that it was all because of her! It was all Eurivin's fault—but it didn't make any sense. The woman named, Heart—who looked like Eurivin was the Princess of the Cupid Kingdom, so why was she doing a matchmaker mission? My anger towards Eurivin was subsiding when I realized it was impossible. In any case, how could Eurivin and Heart be the same person? I carried Eurivin inside my womb for nine months, I saw it with my own eyes and I was the one who gave birth to her.
"Stand, dear," Queen Mother said as she pulled me up. "Was it too much to process? Those are my memories I transmitted to your mind."
Not looking at her, I shook my head. "It wasn't Eurivin, I'm sure of it. It's just impossible."
"It was her. How can you explain the uncanny resemblance between the two? They are the same person," she said firmly, and then she began to walk idly, her hands both on her elbows. "I'm sure she was reincarnated as your child."
But how? I saw in her memories that she was dragged down into hell. I wanted to ask her but I just kept the thought to myself.
"Can I ask how could you be sure of it, Your Majesty?"
She returned her attention to me. "Three days later after Heart was dragged into hell, her father suddenly disappeared without a trace. And this is what I concluded, King Vertroth went to hell to take her daughter's place and for this to happen, the King of the Underworld gave a condition that Heart would instead be reincarnated as the child of her mismatched couple."
"But Your Majesty, those are not facts, we couldn't be sure of it."
She smirked. "I knew you would say that. You want to deny everything, but let me tell you this. King Vertroth adored his daughter very much, and if you would put yourself into his shoes, you would do everything for your child, am I right?"
I nodded at her. It did make sense. If I was in his shoes, I would save my child even if it meant that I would be the one to suffer.
"But you are still not convinced to my conclusion that Heart is Eurivin, I guess?" she asked with a raised brow, smiling.
"If I would be honest, yes, Your Majesty."
She giggled. "It's okay, dear. I like it that you're not gullible. You saw how Heart and Eurivin looked exactly the same—except for the color of the hair, right?"
She waited for me to respond, so I nodded. Then she continued, "how will you explain that? Besides, Eurivin didn't take after either of you and your husband. It's as if she isn't your child. Her looks are nothing like the two of you. And as you have noticed for sure, she looked more like my husband—since they are siblings."
Everything was starting to make sense. My anger was beginning to surge as my breathing became heavy, my fists clenched into balls. My intuition was telling me that Her Majesty's conclusion was right. The tears that had formed in my eyes rolled down to my cheeks.
"But why would a princess go down to the human world to carry a mission of a matchmaker cupid?" I asked, still hoping that I could ease the doubt on Eurivin.
"Good question," she said as she smirked. "Until the reign of King Vertroth, the princess and the prince of the Cupid Kingdom were expected to match humans. They were allowed to go down the human world—they did not have a human form, though. But you see, they aren't allowed anymore, it was my late husband, King Cerius, who made that rule to prevent the history to be repeated."
"But why would the Princess do that? Why would she mismatch me to another man?"
"I'm sorry, dear, I can't answer you this time. It was truly unfortunate that you and Keelan were assigned to her. I'm sorry that you had to suffer from her mistake. I'm sorry that she had to be your daughter. I'm sorry that you poured love on someone who was the reason for your anguish in the human world. I'm sorry—"
I cut her off. "Your Majesty, you don't have to apologize for something you didn't do. It was all Heart's fault. It was all Eurivin's fault. I'll never forgive her."
Queen Mother stared at me with a concerned face.
"Come here, dear, I'll give you a hug." Her Majesty bent a little forward to embrace me. I didn't hug her back but she still patted my back gently and then after a few seconds, she whispered to my ear, "I understand if you want revenge, she's not really your child after all. But don't forget that taking revenge on humans who did wrong to you when you're still a human is prohibited—that's the first rule among the healer cupids, but I guess this is an exemption since Eurivin has wronged you when she was just still a cupid."

Present moment...
"And that's how I knew everything," I said after telling Heart that I learned it all from the Queen Mother. She wasn't saying anything. She was just looking at me expressionlessly.
"What?" Carl was the first one who reacted. "You were in a 10-year relationship with Keelan?"
"Yes," I said, averting my gaze away from him. I should have left that piece of information. Why did I even mention that?
"Do you still have feelings for Keelan?" he asked.
"What? No! Not anymore. You're the one—" I stopped my mouth before it could slip the words that I would probably regret later. But I already said enough to make myself embarrassed and blushed.
"I knew it! Vanessa has feelings for Carl!"
My eyes widened. "Keelan?"
"You're conscious now!" I added as I saw him sitting straight. I pulled him into a hug, my tears streaming down my face. But then Carl cleared his throat as if reminding us that he was here with us. I broke away with the hug and I let my eyes land on Heart to my other side. She was still zoning out.
"Hey, Heart? Are you okay?" I asked, grabbing her hands that were on her lap.
"Of course, she's not. How could she be when her father was in hell instead of her?" Queen Minerva interrupted.

"Can you please, shut up for once?" Keelan grumbled, making Heart snap out from whatever she was in. "I'm sorry Carl, but your mother is getting on my nerves. She was the one who interrupted the last kiss, right?"
"How did you know that?" Heart finally opened her mouth.
"Because I was awake."
