Chapter 51 - The Next Queen

Eurivin's POV
"Thank you for fulfilling my request. As the oldest cupid present here, I want to discuss something important with the two of you regarding the current situation of the kingdom," father said.
Carl and I glanced at each other and then nodded at my father.
We were at the Royal Garden, sitting on a wooden chair, and each of us had a tea prepared for us by Carl's attendant.
Father sipped his tea and put back the golden cup slowly on the little plate on the table before he continued, "I apologize, Carl, but the kingdom needs Heart. We need the chosen one to rule the kingdom."
I expressed my opinion before Carl could speak. "We've already talked about this, father. I told you that I do not wish to rule the kingdom. Carl should keep the throne, he is fit to be the king."
Taking the throne was like taking candy from a child. It would be unfair to Carl, I would be shameful from doing that. But if I would not take the throne, then my cupid mother's sacrifice would be in vain—but I guessed it was okay since I was still the chosen one and I could do just fine without being the ruler of the kingdom.
"There's no question about that. But you are expected to—"

I cut off my father before he could finish his sentence. "My answer will never change, father. I will not take the throne from Carl."
My father shook his head and sighed. "Okay, I understand. But if Carl will remain as the king, he needs to choose his queen as soon as possible. We do not want to repeat the history when you were accused of breaking the first rule among the matchmaker cupids. We couldn't prove your innocence because I didn't have my Queen anymore. No one was there to read your memories. That's why now. . ." Father turned his gaze to Carl. "You should start thinking about choosing the next queen."
I turned my gaze at Carl whose face became sad. "I have someone in my mind, but. . . she's not qualified to become the queen."
"Are you referring to Heart's human mother?" Father asked softly.
Carl nodded and then sighed. "If I will have my queen, I want it to be the woman I'm in love with."
Father chuckled which made Carl stare at him. "For some reason, I can definitely say that you're my son's child. You two fell for a woman you're not supposed to be in love with."
Father also added, "I remember that day when your father told me that he wanted to marry Minerva, a cupid healer. I was so against it since it is forbidden. A healer cupid is not allowed to be the queen since their human memories were kept intact and becoming the queen would also enhance their ability. It's dangerous since they could transmit other's memories or even their own to another one just like how Minerva did to Vanessa, and look what happened."
Carl was now even sadder, his gaze on his tea, but when father's tone became cheerful, "however, in your case. . ." Carl returned his attention to my father. "We have Heart." The two turned their gazes at me and I just raised my brows at them. Father then continued, "Heart can make your desire into fruition. I guess you still don't know this Carl, since you have just been crowned the king. But the chosen one can do the impossible."
I furrowed my brows. "What do you mean, father? I'm not like the God of all who can do the impossible."
Father chuckled. "Retract the healer attribute of Vanessa. Erase her human memories and turn her into a matchmaker cupid."
My eyes widened, the same as Carl's. We threw glances at each other and then I said, "I can do that?"
"Can she really make that happen, grandfather?" Carl asked with anticipation, but when father nodded, his face grew back to being sad.
"What's wrong?" I asked.
He sighed before he answered, "I'm not sure if she'll agree. Besides, I haven't confessed my feelings for her yet."
"Well, I'm sure she feels the same way," I said. "Be brave and confess to her already."
-----------------------------
The next day...
Carl finally declared his love for Vanessa, and as I expected, she felt the same way towards Carl. I knew it because I had already seen this very moment in my visions.
"Are you sure about this, mom?" I asked.
We were now at the Ceremonial Hall to perform the retraction of the healer ability of Vanessa. I should call her by her name by now. I had to get used to it since I would be erasing her human memories.
She nodded at me and glanced at Carl who was sitting on the throne. "For Carl and for me, I'll do it."
I smiled at her. "I guess this will be the last time I'll call you 'mom', mom."
She giggled. "Yes, my Euri, and I guess this will be the last time I'll call you by that name."
I nodded at her and smiled. "After this, there will be no more weird situations like you being my mom and niece at the same time."
She laughed. "And there will be no more weird situations like you being my daughter and my ex's lover at the same time."
We threw each other a good laugh, but then we were stopped by Carl and Keelan's comments.
"Uh, are you not done yet with your goodbyes as mother and daughter?" Carl asked politely. Though there was no haste in his tone, I couldn't help but smile a bit. Why was he so impatient? Was he that excited to marry Vanessa?
While Keelan said, "I guess, you're enjoying yourselves without us."
Keelan was on the side standing by the window like the other royal servants—who were now looking at him as if they were saying 'how dare he interrupt and joined in.' Keelan threw glances back at them, unfazed as if it didn't affect him even a bit. How conceited he could be just because he was the only commoner invited to this ceremony. When our eyes met, he winked at me openly, making the others glare at him. I laughed at his confidence.
When I returned my attention to Vanessa, she said, "I'm ready."
---------------
The wedding and the coronation ceremony ended a few hours ago.
About Minerva, I inputted to the cupids' minds that Minerva was long dead and had already ascended to the Cloud Palace a few days later after my brother died. We decided that we should conceal her crime to avoid confusion and unrest from the cupids. I also altered their memories about Vanessa being a matchmaker instead of a healer cupid. Keelan, Carl, Marcy, my father, and I were the only ones who knew the whole truth.
Carl had his queen now and he was certainly the happiest man alive in the kingdom, it was so obvious that he was, because even though his parents were in hell, his smile was so genuine and bright. I was happy for him. I was happy for them. They deserved to be happy.
Vanessa had forgotten her human memories—which was a relief for me since she did not have to remember those unpleasant memories.
She didn't also have to know how she died. Though I felt guilty for not telling her the truth that I was the real reason for everything that happened.
Father told me that I was meant to have a hard time in the human world and that it was the King of the Underworld's condition. Since I was accused of committing a grave sin, he didn't agree with me being released to the Cupid Kingdom again. Father had no choice, so he just agreed to it.
Now, Vanessa only knew me as Heart—the chosen one. I also left the part where I was Carl's Aunt. I made her think that Carl and I weren't related at all and that Keelan and I were lovers. Of course, I had to do that so that Keelan wouldn't have to explain our relationship to her since I didn't erase the memory of her being friends with my Sweetcake—I really couldn't get that off of my mind.
In her new memories, Keelan didn't commit any sin, Minerva had passed on to the Cloud Palace, and lastly, she only remembered that she was a matchmaker cupid not once a healer cupid. In short, she didn't have any bad memories.
My thoughts were halted when I heard a knock on the door. I was in the chamber I used to sleep in. "Can I come in, my beautiful daughter?"
I chuckled. I really missed him. I still couldn't believe that my life turned upside down. From having a violent human father to a soft cupid father.
"You may come in, father," I said as I pulled myself to sit.
He walked towards my way and sat on the edge of my bed.
"What is it, father?" I asked.
He smiled at me. "Are you happy?"
I nodded at him as I flashed a wide smile, revealing my teeth. "Of course, father. I couldn't be happier."
"Good," he said and then he planted a kiss on my forehead. "Do you remember the promise I told you?"
"Hmm," I responded as I nodded my head.
"We can finally see your mother."
"Really, father?" I asked as my eyes widened in anticipation. My heartbeat faster as my excitement to see my cupid mother grew more than ever. "How and when?"
He smiled at me. "Since the kingdom has a king and queen now, there is no reason for us to stay here. We can finally meet your mother by tomorrow."
"We can go to the Cloud Palace together!" he added.
I was finally able to see my cupid mother, I should be happy and jumping for joy. But why did my excitement suddenly fade? Why did it seem like I wasn't happy with what my father said?
"Father, if we go to the Cloud Palace, are we still be able to go back or visit the Kingdom?"
He shook his head. "Unfortunately, there will be no turning back. If you, the chosen one have forsaken your duty to rule the kingdom, then there will be no reason for you to stay here."
That was a harsh thing to say. I didn't forsake anything, I just gave way to someone I thought was deserving of the throne too.
"Then I will stay here to assist the King and Queen," I said with conviction.
"You won't go with me? Didn't you want to see your mother?"
"I did and I still do, but I could wait. The longer I wait, the sweeter the fruit will be," I said, but deep in the back of my mind, I didn't want to leave Keelan yet. "And besides, I still have things to settle in the human world. I'm sorry, father, but I don't think I can go with you."
