Cade had returned back to mystic world all battered and bruised still aching from all the bullets and stabbings he had received. He had managed to find his way back to mystic world begging for rides and walking when he could not find one. He had come home looking worse than when he left. His father had hesitated about sending someone after him when he left, but had decided against it because he wanted to give him a chance to prove himself. When Cade came home looking all bruised and wounded, his father was bent on taking revenge on whoever had done that to his son. He had returned a day after Adrian and Jayda had been captured. He was treated and left to rest to regain his strength. He fully recovered after two days, Jayda's safety being one of the reasons he forced himself to get better. He went to meet his father the moment he could walk on his two feet again without any support. He barged in to his father's palace chambers "The vampires have her" he said as soon he entered. " you recovered quickly " his father said. " They took the hybrid " he said ignoring what his father said. " you came back here looking like a ghost of yourself. I think you need to rest more and recover first " "Father this is more important " " nothing matters to me more than my son" " well this matter concerns your kingdom my lord" he raised his tone. His father paused, and raised his head to look at him. He abandoned the old scrolls and maps he had been looking at and went to sit on his throne. He looked at Cade seriously. When Cade saw he had his father's full attention, he spoke again, more calmly but emphatically this time. " I followed prince Adrian to the human world " he looked at his father to be sure that sunk in. His father did not react in the least, he just kept his gaze steady to show he was listening. " I followed him around because I wanted to be sure about the existence of the hybrid" " it was just a matter before he found her. I knew then that she really did exist. Adrian would not leave her side and I feared for her safety" " why would you fear for her safety?" Duncan interrupted him. " because she is important to mystic world, she is the first of her kind and she does not deserve to die. I have met her, and from what I have seen, she does not deserve this at all." He saw his father was looking at him as though he had gone crazy. " I am yet to see the sense in what you are trying to say" " I am saying that she needs help, so we need to rescue her before they do something to her" " you have been passed out for how many days? What makes you think she is still alive?" " I don't know but we can find out " " if you had waited for my instructions instead of leaving the way you did, you could have had help and you could have rescued her from them. But you constantly defy my authority and that is why you left the way you did" "If I had waited, I might have missed them. And I would not have found out about her. That still should not have stopped you from sending help" " well you left without saying anything to me and I thought I should let you do something on your own at least. I thought it was time I let you handle some responsibility and what did you do? You come back empty handed and near death " " at least I tried " he yelled back. They both hated when they said hurtful things to each other but that seemed to have become a part of their lives. They were always bickering and arguing but deep down they loved and cared for each other so much. A lot changed between them since the Queen died. And they both have been inwardly and secretly blaming each other for her death. " I will not have anything to do with xavier or his kingdom " " even when they have the girl " " is it not better that they do? We would have done the same if we had found her first " " you can not mean that " " that is the natural order of our world and an age long tradition. Our forefathers have maintained this balance and we must carry it on and not ruin it" " some traditions can be broken" " not this one" " surely you can make an exception. " " we will do nothing " his father yelled." And that is my final decision on this " " what if we convinced her to be on our side? Don't you think that this is a perfect opportunity to do so. Having a hybrid on our side would make us indestructible and more powerful. " His father signalled to the guard " please escort the prince to his room. And keep an eye on him. Do not let him out of your sight or out of his room for even a minute. I want him heavily guarded under lock and key" Cade scoffed and smiled bitterly " I thought you were different from Xavier. I really thought you felt guilty about what happened to her parents. And now that you have a chance to right the wrongs, you're just gonna pretend that you don't know what is going on?" " you disappoint me" Cade said. And he walked away as the guard pulled him along. He did not take his eyes away from his father's face as he was being dragged away. He was dragged to his room, shoved inside and locked up. He sighed resignedly, he had at least tried. What if she was already dead, he thought.
