chapter 15

.....
I followed Anabella with a heavy heart filled with guilt and fear. What would she think of me after my actions? I was trembling all over, and I could tell that she noticed. In silence, we made our way back to our shared room, the weight of my conscience pressing down on me.
As we entered the room, Anabella didn't say a word, simply climbing into bed without a word. I lay there, unable to settle, my mind racing with thoughts of how I had wronged her. Finally, unable to bear it any longer, I whispered her name, gently tapping her shoulder. She feigned sleep, refusing to engage with me.
I knew I had treated her poorly, and this was her way of making me feel the extent of my transgressions. Desperate to make amends, I got up from my bed and knelt before her, begging for her forgiveness and promising to change my ways. I knew that Zee would understand the gravity of the situation, and that a sincere apology was the first step towards reconciliation.
Anabella's voice cut through my plea, commanding me to stand. I obeyed, watching her closely for any sign of forgiveness or understanding. She sighed heavily, admitting that the Den was a harsh and unforgiving place, where many had lost their lives.
She opened up about her past, recounting the tragic events that had led her to join the Den. She spoke of her best friend's untimely death, and how it had changed her forever. I listened intently, trying to absorb her pain and empathize with her struggles.
As she spoke about her loved ones who was  killed by assassins, and how she had been left homeless and alone, I felt a deep sense of sorrow and regret. Anabella was truly a good person at heart, and it was heartbreaking to see how the cruelty of the Den had hardened and changed her.
I vowed to support her in any way I could, determined to make amends for my past mistakes and stand by her in the face of adversity. The road ahead would be difficult, but knowing that we were in it together gave me hope for a better tomorrow.Anabella cried uncontrollably and I had no option than to console her. It was so clear to me that nobody loves the Den but everyone is striving to live.
Anabella's story was a sad tragic story and I felt her pain. It's so heartbreaking getting a call one morning that your peaceful and loving family have been butchered, no time for good bye and last memory, everyone gone at same time.
Do you want to leave with us ? I asked.
She stopped crying and looked up to see my face.
Chyke, you can't handle everything, she said
I asked her what she meant by that and she answered.
Many people have been killed because of this , talking of it leads to death, executing the plan leads to painful death. She went on explaining the difference between painful death and death. I got scared hearing the inhuman act, but how can I judge them when I'm now one.
Thank you, please stop crying, I tried to reassure her.
The police work with the Den, she said to me
I was so shocked because I wasn't expecting that. These people are for our safety so why?
Don't be too surprise, escaping the den is so difficult. The den has so many prominent individuals who covers their deeds. They hide under cooperative association and cover their deeds, she said.
The discussion was so long, scary and sad. She told me so many things which I never expected. My zeal of escaping was dropping fastly as she tells the story.
After the discussion, we slept off and luckily she promised not to expose us. Well, still not sure if she was part of the escape plan.
It's already 7: 50am , I streched my body like I had wrestled with a lion. I stood up from the bed feeling weak and pains all over my body. I looked for Anabella, but I couldn't find her and my heart sank. Where is she?
I can't really explain why I don't trust Anabella especially when she is upset with me. Without taking my bath, I wore my clothes and rushed in search of her. Few steps away from the door, I met Anabella. She was looking so beautiful like she had gone out for a party or probably any celebration.
Good morning Anabella, I greeted her.
Where are you going to ? she asked.
I told her I was looking for her and we went back to the room. Today is my free day and I will be resuming the new duty  tomorrow. Anabella is the luckiest individual in the Den, she wakes up doing nothing, just attending royal meetings and giving direction. That morning was a very peaceful morning, she made a very delicious meal for us. It's really beautiful to give a person a chance, I said to myself.
