CHAPTER 10

AMELIA POV
After we finished shopping for our wedding attire and guest outfits, we had to head to Alexander's company for their meeting. The happiness I felt earlier had turned into irritation and annoyance. If he knew he would be busy, he shouldn't have accompanied me. I couldn't shake off the frustration.
"You should've just stayed home if you're gonna act like this. You knew you were busy! We still have so much to do, look at how we're just wasting time," I grumbled, my frustration evident in my tone. I clicked my seatbelt on, my movements a bit more forceful than needed.
He stayed quiet for a moment, his jaw tight as he thought about what I said. Then he spoke, his voice low and intense, sending shivers down my spine. "You think I don't know that?" His eyes locked onto mine, daring me to match his intensity.
I bristled at his challenge, feeling heat rise as I looked back at him. "Well, you certainly don't know it," I replied, unable to contain the frustration rising within me.
His lips formed a humorless smirk, silently daring me with the curve of his mouth. "Oh, so now you're the authority on how I should behave?" he replied, his tone dripping with sarcasm.
Alexander glanced at me from the corner of his eye, his expression unreadable, but I could feel the frustration beneath his calm demeanor. "Just be quiet and stop making noise! If you don't, I might just kiss you right here so you won't be able to talk anymore," he replied, his voice tinged with both irritation and amusement.
I tensed at his audacity, his threat only fueling my anger further. "Oh please, as if you could silence me with a kiss." I scoffed, my words dripping with sarcasm as I crossed my arms defiantly over my chest.
His lips formed a smirk, mischief twinkling in his eyes. "Wanna try that out?" he teased, leaning closer, his warm breath brushing against my cheek.
Instinctively, I stepped back, my heart pounding at this sudden closeness, torn between anger and intrigue. “Dont you dare." I warned, my voice a low growl as I pushed him away, my palm pressed against his chest.
His words caught me off guard, and I found myself falling silent. I was taken aback by his audacity, unsure of how to respond. The threat of his kiss, whether serious or not, was enough to make me keep my mouth shut. I wasn't sure what else he was capable of if I continued to push his buttons.
The rest of the ride was quiet, the tension between us subsided. My mind raced with thoughts, my heart pounding in my chest. I kept sneaking looks at Alexander, attempting to figure out what he was thinking. His face stayed neutral, his gaze fixed on the road ahead.
As we neared his company, I was surprised by what I saw. The building was an impressive work of architecture, its sleek design standing out against the city backdrop. It was quite different from our own company's simple headquarters.
We walked into the building, the busy atmosphere of the workplace hitting us right away. The sound of ringing phones and chatter filled the air, a clear difference from the tense quiet of the car we'd just left.
As we walked to his office, I couldn't help but appreciate how smoothly his company was run. Employees were diligently working, their dedication clear. Despite our disagreements, I couldn't deny Alexander's leadership abilities.
I sat in Alexander's office, relaxing in one of the cozy chairs. The room reflected his success - stylish, contemporary, and commanding. I waited calmly, occasionally glancing at the conference room where Alexander was in a meeting.
All of a sudden, the office door opened, and a girl strolled in. She exuded confidence, immediately grabbing my attention. Without hesitation, she took the seat next to me, her smirk indicating she was quite at home in this setting.
"Who are you?" I asked, taken aback by her audacity.
She laughed, a sound that was more mocking than joyful. "I'm Eliza, Alexander's business partner." She paused, her smirk widening. "In bed."
"And so? What do you want me to do?" I asked, my voice steady and unwavering.
"Oh, honey," she taunted, her tone dripping with arrogance as she leaned back in her chair, crossing her legs with exaggerated casualness. "I just thought you should know the truth about your precious Alexander. He has a rather... intriguing habit of mixing business with pleasure, you know."
"Precious Alexander? you're so funny!" I retorted sharply, my voice dripping with sarcasm. "Alexander and I don't have a relationship, so I couldn't care less about whatever is going on between you two." I met her gaze with a seriousness that I hoped would make her reconsider her words.
Her eyebrows rose in surprise at my answer, a hint of uncertainty crossing her expression before she quickly covered it up with a look of disbelief. "Oh, really? Then why are you here?" she asked, her voice tinged with doubt as she leaned back in her chair, crossing her arms over her chest.
I met her gaze directly, refusing to retreat in response to her implications. "I'm here because Alexander dragged me here." I replied calmly, my tone strong and steady. "And as for his character, I believe you'll discover that people are often more complex than they seem."
The woman's smirk faltered for a moment, a flash of insecurity appearing in her eyes before she regained her composure, her expression turning arrogant and condescending.
“Oh, come on,” she scoffed, her voice filled with contempt. "You want me to believe that Alexander, of all people, would suddenly start bringing women into his workplace out of the blue? It's ridiculous, honestly."
I resisted the urge to roll my eyes at her clear ignorance, instead choosing to keep my cool as I replied, "Think what you want, but the truth stays unchanged. Alexander's choices are his own, and "I won't get pulled into a childish game of jealousy and insecurity."
The woman's laughter filled the air, irritating me like nails on a chalkboard as she regarded me with thinly veiled amusement."Jealous and insecure, you say? Oh, honey, you have no idea," she taunted, her voice filled with malice. "But don't worry, you'll learn soon enough. Ignorance is bliss. Until it isn't anymore."
"I don't have time for your endless small talk!" I snapped, my frustration boiling over as I turned away.
His eyebrows furrowed and his voice grew louder to match my intensity. "Who do you think you are? No one treats me like that," she replied, her voice filled with anger, her hands flapping wildly in the air.
I couldn't help but let out a soft chuckle at her boldness. "Oh? Should I feel honored to be the first woman he's brought here? Is that what you want to hear? Then why are you here?" I countered, echoing her questions with a touch of sarcasm in my tone. Despite the tension in the air, I remained unfazed by her unsettling insinuations.
