CHAPTER 1
AMELIA POV
As I sat in my room, lost in my own thoughts, I couldn't shake a feeling of unease. The news of my sister, being pregnant with her secret lover's child had stunned our family. Now, my parents had an unusual solution to fill the gap she left—an arranged marriage for me with the Westwood family.
I couldn't believe it when my parents first told me. “Amelia,” they said, “you are marrying a member of the Westwood family.” I felt like the ground had shifted beneath me and I struggled with the weight of their decision. I have always believed in love and choosing my own path but now it seems that fate has planned something else for me.
I, Amelia, a carefree and independent young woman, suddenly found myself bound by marriage. The rich and powerful Westwood family was famous, but I always hoped to discover love in my own way. Now I am ready to begin a journey that will change the path of my life.
The Westwood family is a wealthy and influential family in our town, famous for their grand parties and lavish lifestyle. They are very popular but I never thought about sticking with them for a long time. The thought of being pushed into marriage without having a say in it made my heart sink.
As I looked out the window, lost in thought, a gentle knock on the door broke the silence. That's Lily, my best friend and confidant. She entered the room, her eyes worried.
"Amelia, I heard the news," Emily said gently, her voice full of care. "I know it's a lot, but you're not alone. We'll work through it together."
I looked into Emily eyes, grateful for the sincerity in her words. "It's a lot, Emily. This arranged marriage idea is ridiculous. I never expected things to take such a turn."
Emily nodded with empathy, her gaze showing understanding. "I can only imagine how tough this must be for you. But remember, you have family who care about you, who'll stand by you no matter what. You're not alone in this."
I looked up at her, tears welling in my eyes. "Emily, how am I supposed to do this? How can I be a substitute for you?"
Emily sat next to me, giving me a comforting hug. "You are your own person, with your own strengths and qualities. This marriage may be arranged, but that doesn't mean you can't find happiness and fulfillment in it."
I sniffled, wiping away my tears. "But what if I can't? What if I'm not enough."
Emily held my hand gently. "You're more than enough, Amelia. You have a kind heart, a sharp mind, and a deep strength. Trust yourself and the journey ahead. Love can happen in unexpected places."
I tried to smile slightly, grateful for Emily unwavering support."Thank you, Emily. I needed that. But how do I deal with it? How do I navigate a future that isn't mine?"
Emily leaned back, looking thoughtful."One step at a time, Amelia. You don't need all the answers right now. Focus on the present, get to know the Westwood family and find common ground. You may be surprised by what can happen from unexpected situations."
Her words resonated within me, stirring a glimmer of hope in my heart. Maybe, just maybe, there's a possibility that something beautiful will come out of this arranged marriage.
As the days passed, my parents insisted that this arrangement was ideal, emphasizing stability, financial security, and the benefits of joining a prestigious family. However, deep down, I couldn't escape the feeling that this was not what I wanted.
One evening, as I sat by the window watching the sun set, I couldn't help but feel a sense of rebellion rising within me. I knew I had to face my parents and express my true feelings. I want them to understand that my happiness and freedom should not be sacrificed for union or corporate growth.
Breathing in deeply, I entered the living room where my parents were deep in discussion. Standing tall, I spoke up with a steady voice. "Mother, Father, I appreciate your concern for my future, but I can't agree with this arranged marriage. I need to find love my own way, much like Emily did."
Silence hung within the air as my words sank in. My parents exchanged glances, their expressions a mix of surprise and disappointment. "Amelia, we get it your want for love, but now and then life doesn't work out the way we plan. We only need what's best for you," my father at last reacted.
Tears welled up in my eyes as I realized the pain my parents must be feeling. They always wanted the best for me, but their idea of happiness didn't match mine. "I know you both want the best for me, but I can't ignore my own dreams and desires. I want to control my own destiny," I replied, my voice shaking with emotion.
"I understand your concerns, Amelia," my mother said gently, sensing my inner turmoil. "But sometimes, life takes unexpected turns, and we must learn to adapt. The Westwood family is highly regarded in the business world, and marrying into their family will bring many opportunities for you."
My mother's words struck me like a wave, stirring conflicting emotions. On one hand, I couldn't resist the allure of the Westwood family's prestige and the opportunities it could provide. But on the other hand, I couldn't ignore the fire burning within me, the longing to pursue my own dreams and forge my own path.
I looked into my parents' eyes, hoping they would understand the depth of my yearning for something different. As I gazed into their eyes, I saw their unwavering love and concern for my well-being. They had always supported me, guiding me towards what they believed was best. But now, it was time for me to make my own choices, to follow the path that resonated with my heart.
"But, Mom, Dad," I pleaded, "what about the life I want to build for myself, not just for the sake of family alliance?"
My father, a man of few words but strong convictions, sighed deeply. "Amelia, we've always wanted what's best for you. The Westwood alliance is not just about family ties; it's an opportunity to secure a future filled with prosperity and stability. Think about the legacy you can build for yourself and the generations to come."
"I appreciate the opportunities, Mom, Dad," I said, my voice steadier now, "but happiness for me isn't solely defined by external success. I want a life filled with passion, choices that reflect who I am. Can't you understand that?"
My mother reached across the table, placing a comforting hand on mine. "Amelia, we want you to be happy. But happiness can take different forms. Sometimes, it's about embracing the opportunities that come our way, even if they are unexpected."
I sighed, the burden of their expectations heavy on my shoulders. "I get you want what's best for me, but what if my best doesn't align with the path you've set? Can't my happiness be considered on my terms?"
My father, usually the stern and silent type, spoke up with a hint of sadness in his voice. "Amelia, we have always tried to guide you towards a secure and prosperous future. We thought this arranged marriage would be the best path for you. But please, try to see the bigger picture."
I felt a mixture of relief and guilt wash over me. It was a relief that my parents were willing to listen and support me, as well as a feeling of guilt that I had caused them pain and disappointment. When I hugged my parents, I felt relieved. I know their love and support will always be there, even if their decisions cost me happiness for a long time.Download Novelah App
