Chapter 20

Harry sighed as he looked at me. “Mom said we should go to church tomorrow, but we won't. He walked near me.”Do you want to go?”

“No,” I said, especially because of the members of the church calling us husband and wife after Mrs. Eliza forced us to snap pictures with them.

“Should we go home now or at night?”

I shrugged my shoulder. “I have the assignment to do.”

“We both have it and we would solve it tomorrow.”

I gave him disapproved looks. “Besides, you haven't told me what you want to say since I finished the food.”

“I will tell you in the car.”

“Why are you postponing this, why can’t you tell me now?”

“I will tell you in the car, and that is all.” He walked towards the street and look back. “Why don’t you follow me?”

“Where are we going again?”

“To the ice cream shop of course.”

Hearing the word ice cream make me feel joy, ice cream was just my thing. I hurried to him, and then we crossed the street. I felt anxious. Maybe because of the words he was hidden from me. It might be because a driver slammed on the brake and the car stopped two steps away. Or maybe because of his soft hand that gripped my hand. The driver yelled at us, his big eye scared me first.

“What are you two kids doing on the road?”

“We have the right to cross the street, you should caution yourself and limit your speed,” Harry said. We passed there with my hand within his hand. Someone in the car begged the driver, and he frown at us before driving away.

And now, I felt uneasy because my hand was still in his hand, but when I look at his face, it seemed he enjoyed it.

“You are still holding my hand,” I said.

“Oh.” He dropped it. “I’m sorry, I forget.”

“It's fine.”

The ice cream had been closed. Staring at the closed door, I felt tired. To walk back to the restaurant became a burden to me, but I don’t feel like going back home without ice cream. “Don't you know anywhere apart from this place?”

“I don't use to go out, so I don't fucking know anywhere else.”

“Shall we go home then?”

“Huh,” he said, for the first time.

“Why did you pretend like you don't hear?”

“I don't pretend, your words just surprised me.”

I blushed. “I didn't pretend that time, too. Your words surprised me.”

“That I’m sorry?”

Crap. I shouldn't have said that.

He continues. “That I regret I failed to defend you? That I regret I deny you before my friends because I don’t want to be left alone? Or because I was afraid to feel lonely?”

“It’s alright.”

“Annie, tell me which one surprised you?”

“It’s alright.”

He sighed. “I’m sorry again.”

“It’s fine. I had already forgiven you. You don't need to beg me again. Let's hurry to the car and tell me what you want to tell me.”

“What if am afraid to say it and I postponed it again?”

I paused, gazing at his charming face. “Then you should just forget about it because I won't want to listen to it forever?”

He raised his eyebrows. “Sure? Are you serious?”

“Why shouldn't I. Come on, let’s go to the car before someone steals it.”

“Oh.”He raised his eyebrows once more, touched his pockets and his face asked me where it is. He looked at me. Where is the car key?”

“Do you remove it from the ignition?” I asked.

He hurried down the road, running now. I follow him, and I wished he should stop running, for I am tired already. And then I felt nervous because I remembered we would soon be in his car. He would soon tell me what is bothering him. We stopped before the car, it was flashing red lights.

“Someone had touched it,” he said, trying to balance his breath under his pounding heart.

We entered the car and the car coughed to life, moving steadily on the quiet road now.

I turned my gaze at him. “We are in the car now or do you want to postpone it again?”

“Oh, no.” He sniffled. He looked at me and I felt nervous, my subconsciousness was afraid too. “I want to say.” He paused, looking at the front, coughing, and I don’t bother to sorry him.

He continues.“Err… eh… I want to say, I would like to solve the math questions with you at home, this night.” The words dropped one by one as if they were burning his lips. “But I don’t want you to talk to me again. I’m not your type. I want today to be your last day talking with me. You should remember who I was. I am a son of a CEO of the Williams enterprises.”

Crap. I was lost with words to say as the wave of proud dance on his face. All I just want to do now is to alight from his car, for anger was boiling within me like a roaring ocean. I realized he wants to hurt me more than before, but thank god, I expect nothing good from him. Or else, my expectation would have hurt me now.

After a long silence filled the car, and after I can’t wait to leave his car, he look at me, and our eyes met. And then the wave of pride on his face dropped and disappeared amid the breeze that darted in and swirled up his hair.

He then slowed the car, staring into my blue eyes, and then sighed, then says, "they tried millions of times, but the more they tried, the more they failed. I can't resist the instinct which grew every day and now it forced me here to end your problem."

His words puzzled me. He can see the confusion on my face. "I don't understand you."

Harry's crimson eyes were dripping tears. "Annie, I love you."
