Homepage/A PICTURE OF HIM/
chapter 7
I'm Clara Dion, the only surviving child of late Mr. Dion one of the wealthy CEOs in my town. My dad was a well reputable man in the society, he owned lots of properties including the hospital he opened for my mum. My mum was a genealogist, she was really out to help women in need including the ones who can't afford antenatal routine services. Most times I wonder if she was really making profit from the hospital but my dad seemed to be supportive of it.
My family was a family of 5 living together happily, my younger brothers Jerrie and Larry were so cute and well behaved, that everyone wished for a twin like them. Apart from character wise, we were naturally blessed with beauty in our family! I had the best look while growing up, home was so sweet to be at, coupled with lots of home servants who were treated like family members until life happened. I went to college to continue my education, I had always wanted to be an artist; I love drawing and painting so much but my parents chose law profession for me, after much pestering from my parents, I had to give in. I never lacked anything in School, my family was so generous that they paid for some students' school fees irrespective of the amount, there was always a particular year for the selection though some would be added when there was a clear evidence of no help. I made sure I included Bright my ex boyfriend and Thelma my ex best friend, irrespective of the wealth and class. We didn't discriminate in my family and saying a bad word about the needy will attract punishment especially from my mum. I was taught to take life easy and cautiously. I was from a Christian home and every morning my mum made sure she teaches us about love, pride and help.
Remembering her favorite quotes made me laugh.
"Love your neighbor as yourself,"
"Pride leads to downfall,"
"Help people in need."
My siblings and I were always made to recite these repeatedly every morning which was really fun. I missed my previous self, I missed how happy I was.
One bright afternoon, I was still in college when my tutor summoned me, happily I left to answer to his call, getting a call from the tutor is always a good one, either you are getting goodies or you are needed at home for an important celebration, mine was always political or family celebration which my presence was solely needed.
"Clara Dion, meet me in my office immediately," he said and Left.
I packed my books and told my best friend to watch over it and left to go see him.
When I got to his office, he was cold and moody unlike the man I used to know, I felt like he was having some challenges.
"Please have a seat, he said calmly."
I sat down but was really not feeling his mood, I knew him, so what could be going on? I sat calmly waiting for him to talk, he told me my present was needed by my people which really made me happy. I never knew I was going to face my pains.
"Get ready to go now, your driver is on his way," he ended his words .
I noticed he was trying to console me, but I can't tell why. Happily, I hurriedly left his office to pick a few things from my bag before I leave.
"Get something for me!" my boyfriend and best friend said, I hugged them and bid farewell.
My driver was already waiting at the gate, I got to his car and greeted him.
"Good day sir D," I said happily. The name of the driver is sir David but we also address him as sir D, he smiled and ushered me into the car. He tried gisting me but it was so glaring that the drive was so boring, 'why is everyone having issues today?' From my tutor to sir D. I sat quietly, pressing my phone till we got to my house.
Lots of people were outside, it seemed something terrible happened, people were shouting and crying. I looked so confused and unable to understand the situation.
"Please, Sir D what's going on?" I asked him.
"Nothing Clara," he replied.
The car was packed outside, we came down from the car and walking towards the gate to able to get into the compound, the population of people outside were so much that we couldn't drive in. When I came down I was led inside immediately, I saw journalists with cameras everywhere, I was already getting scared of what might have happened. The security men led me into the compound safely, probably preventing the interviewers to come close to me. Some people were crying and lamenting but I couldn't hear anything they were saying. I was already tearing up because it was clear to me that something terrible had happened. I rushed into the building to at least find out what was happening.
Getting to our sitting room, lots of people were present including my family relatives. Without greeting them, I made way to our personal space to see my parents. The door were open unlike before, rushing into the room, behold the sight of my loved ones laying helplessly dead in the pool of their own blood.
I went blank Immediately.
I woke up to see myself at the hospital, I was so weak and tired to cry or shout, the picture of what I saw kept on moving in my head. My dad, mum and the twin killed. I couldn't believe myself, I hoped I was hallucinating or dreaming but I wasn't. It all made sense now, the tutors and Sir D mood. I spent months in the hospital, they really did their best managing my mental health. My colleagues in school were really supportive, but something got me. I was expecting more of my best friend's and boyfriend's visit but they only visited casually, unlike what they were to me. I really understood they were schooling, but I needed more of their time than I got.
After I was discharged from the hospital, I came home to see new occupant of my father's house. My family was killed by an unidentified men, none of the securities were killed nor harmed, they surrendered to the other party. The unidentified men were assassins and not kidnappers because money would have solved the problem.
The new occupant of the building was my father's younger brother and his wife, I spent few months in the house before leaving the house. The house was a living hell for me, I was maltreated like I had done wrong in the past and here was an opportunity to payback my deeds, people tend to forget the good you have done for them, so learn to put yourself first in everything. The society move on like nothing; my dad's younger brother went about sharing money to buy people's minds, I saw my hospital being repainted and name changed, a hospital my mum didn't joke with, she always explained the painting and their meanings, but here was a man who knew nothing about the foundation comfortably doing his wish. I stopped schooling too and maybe he bribed my tutor not to let me in, he wants me miserable and far away but things will surely get fine, I assured myself.
Luckily, my dad's document has always been in a small underground opening that none can see.
Clara as he always called, I want you to keep this a secret, never visit here if I didn't ask you to. He would always tell me this, whenever I follow him to place a document, I didn't know why he never trusted a lawyer, but the documents isn't safe here, I always tell him, anything can happen and it will be destroyed.
I was already tired of the house and their maltreatment, the wife and badly raised children always behaving like touts, the house was toxic and I couldn't stand the energy anymore and I started my plans to leave.
On that fateful day, I made sure everyone left before I accessed it, I can't leave without the documents but I really needed to be careful to prevent getting caught, hopefully it was a success and that was my last day in that house. I really hope that one day, I will trace my family's death including claiming the properties back.Download Novelah App
