140. The Missing Truth 19

“Welcome back, Gerald and Samuel,” they greeted them simultaneously after they got out of the car.
“Thank you, for having us,” they responded one after the other.
George helped them to get their things from the car trunk and Tim drove to the garage.
Nevertheless, the old man had been sleeping. The herbal soup had taken its toll on him. Despite the jubilation by everyone over their return, he did not wake up.
George walked to his room and met him sleeping soundly. To avoid disturbing his sleep, he changed to his casual wear quietly and left for the parlor.
Meanwhile, Tim and the boys had gone upstairs and George could hear their laughter. They took their things to their room while Tim walked to his room too.
He slumped on the bed to release his stress and stretched himself.
“What a day!” He exclaimed.
He was annoyed when his phone rang and the other ones beeped with messages.
“Oh, my God! Who is calling me?” He asked himself.
Notwithstanding, he ignored all of them and breathed heavily. Shortly, he got a message on his phone. He picked it up at once and was surprised to see that the message was from Gen. Hill. He sat up quickly and read through it.
(Can I have the details of the hotel where the miners lodged? Thank you.)
He responded quickly by sharing the address with him.
“Does he want to visit them?” He mumbled.
While he was processing his reason for the address he got another message from him.
(I will ask the hotel management to keep an eye on them.)
(That is good, Your Excellency.)
(Okay. Have you picked up your children?)
“Ha, my children!” He exclaimed in astonishment.
(Yes, Your Excellency.)
He replied all the same.
(That is good. You have a full house, and it will help you to heal faster from your divorce.)
(I agree with you, Your Excellency.)
(It's okay. Take care.)
(Take care.)
He laid back on the bed and drifted into sleep immediately.
Meanwhile, Gerald and Samuel were happy to be home. The months' holidays would be the best they ever had.
“I can't wait for Saturday,” Gerald declared.
“What for?” Samuel who was arranging his clothes in the wardrobe, asked.
“I wish to be at the shooting range. I can't wait to train with the senior soldiers,” he explained and Samuel was thrilled.
“Do you think we will be permitted to feature again?”
“You are right. We will beg Sgt. Young to plead with the Brigadier.”
“That is a good idea,” Samuel accepted and continued with his work.
Shortly, he was through. As usual, they wished to help out in the kitchen or any task in the house and they walked out of the room. They got to the kitchen and met the chef getting ready for dinner.
“You are here to assist, right?” The chef who welcomed them with a smile, asked.
They smiled back and Gerald said, “You got it.”
“Unfortunately, there is nothing to do but you can have the fruits,” he said and looked at the fruits in the store.
“Wow!” Samuel exclaimed and watched Gerald go for a big watermelon.
“We can serve everyone,” he announced.
“That is good. In that case, you can take two,” the chef advised.
“It's okay,” they accepted joyously and gladly carried two large sizes of watermelon.
Likewise, they sliced them into a reasonable size. Afterward, they walked through the parlor and hoped to walk to the courtyard. They met George watching the television and halted.
“You are here, Sgt. George,” Samuel said and served him.
“Yes. Is this for me?”
“Yes, Sgt. Young.”
“Thank you. You should be resting and not doing this,” he admonished them and began to eat while they served the other members of the family.
When they were through, they returned to the parlor with their plates of fruits and joined him. They ate their fruits in silence while watching the television. Nevertheless, they experienced some twists in their brains when the anniversary jingle came up, and they saw George as the Third in Command.
Gerald looked at George who was calmly chewing the fruit and concentrating on the television. Instantly, he gave Samuel a familiar look and he recognized it. They tried to concentrate on their fruits but could not.
Nevertheless, Samuel who could dare anything due to his age, asked, “Sgt. Young, are you the person on the jingle?”
George smiled softly and faced him. They locked eyes for a while before he asked, “What do you think? Do we look alike?”
“It's you,” Gerald declared without a second thought and George admitted.
Nevertheless, Samuel tried to unravel the mystery. He meditated over his admittance for a while before he asked, “Are you the Third in Command?”
“Not at …"
“Why are you not resting, Gerald and Samuel?” Tim who was climbing down the stairs, asked and interrupted their discussions.
“We will rest later, Brother-in-law,” Gerald answered and got up.
Now, Tim was seated and observed the two. He was delighted to see them relishing the fruits. Before he could ask questions, Gerald returned with his plate of fruits.
“This is for you, Brother-in-law,” he informed him and handed the plate to him.
“Wow! Did you slice this?” He asked happily.
“Yes, Brother-in-law,” he answered and walked to his seat.
“Thank you, for this, Gerald,” he appreciated him and began to eat.
He looked at the three and was happy. He remembered the Second in Command's words a while ago.
(That is good. You have a full house and it will help you to heal faster from your divorce.)
“I can't ask for anything more than this,” he told himself and continued eating.
He recalled that he overheard Samuel's question and he asked, “What were you asking George, Samuel?”
They focused on him and Samuel showed fear. Tim was devastated to see him like that because it reminded him of when he met him very sick.
Whatever the reason for the fear, he corrected him, “Don't be afraid of anything, Samuel - not even death. Did you get me?”
“I got it, Brother-in-law.”
Now, Samuel was encouraged and he asked his questions again. The two faced George for his response while he faced Tim for guidance.
Meanwhile, he resolved that he could not continue to keep them in the dark. He chewed and swallowed the fruit in his mouth before he faced Gerald and Samuel.
“Like I said, don't be afraid of anything. I'm the Third in Command and George is my representative. I feel you must be aware of it and act accordingly.”
Presently, there was a pin-drop silence in the parlor. Tim ignored their bewilderment and continued with his fruits. George, who was not astounded continued with his fruits as well.
Despite advising them to be strong and fear nothing, their emotions failed them.
“You deserve it, Brother-in-law, (sob, sob),” Samuel let out in anguish and George was touched.
He faced him and wondered why the information that should call for celebration should cause him pain.
Tim stopped eating and consoled him, “I know how you feel, my dear. We should be celebrating and not crying.”
“Can I get a hug, Brother-in-law?” Gerald requested and got up.
Tim got up too and spread his hands. Gerald swiftly walked into them and he hugged him tightly. He could feel his heartbeat and tapped his back.
“Be strong. Okay?” He encouraged him again.
“Congratulations on your well-deserved appointment. I wish you more wins.”
“Thank you for the compliment,” he appreciated him and released him.
As expected, Samuel must be hugged too. He was already standing and waiting for his turn.
“Come for a hug, Samuel,” he requested and he happily walked into his open arms.
“Cheer up. Okay?”
“I will. Congratulations once again,” he whispered and Tim tapped his back.
He was relieved and walked back to his seat excited.
“Will you still teach a Military General how to defend himself?” George teased him and Samuel laughed aloud at his folly.
