Chapter 86 Eighty-five
* The proof of love is being there when no one is. *
****
“ My love. ” The sight of my love opening her eyes was just beautiful, despite the reddish part of her face which still pisses me off just looking at it. Her beauty couldn't be hidden.
“ Hey… ” Her voice was low, filled with so much emotion.
“ How are you? ” Despite the fact the doctor had assured me that everything was fine, both the mother and the baby.
I was still worried, how could I not worry? Really, how could I not worry?
“ I'm — ” The words died in her throat when a memory flashed before her eyes, and she began trembling.
“ Hey… ” Joseph moved in Swift action and sat on the bed with his arms around her. “ It's okay, Babe. You are safe. ”
“ Hm… ” She murmured inchorrent words whilst trembling.
Joseph kept patting her, hoping she'll get better soon.
And she did when she eventually fell back asleep.
He tucked her in lovingly, laying a peck on her lips, he said. “ I love you, Babe. ” He paused. “ You'll be okay. ”
Just thinking of what his baby girl had been through, his heart ached greatly. “ Why does she have to suffer so much? Why? ”
Oftentimes, he wonders why some people always have to have it rough. Why?
He had gone online after reading her journal and was surprised to realize how many people had gone through bad friendship break ups and the effect it had on them.
A girl named Abbie had shared her story of how she broke up with her best friend because their relationship was just not working. Her Bestie claimed she loved her, but how could she say that when she never felt her love? How? And just when she thought they might get together after being away from each other. Her best friend actually got a Best friend just two weeks after. “ Just watching how lovely dovey they were at school daily made me want to quit school as the pain I felt was too much. The worst part? It's that I became an outcast in my class. My classmates disliked me and never hesitated to show it. ”
Then she wrote about how she had this hatred and dislike towards girls as a result. “ I didn't allow anyone to get too close to me, as always I was afraid of getting hurt. As a result, I ended up having a guy best friend. I believed all would be well now that I'm with a different gender. How wrong I was. I somehow fell in love with him and confessed, he doesn't love me back so our relationship had complications. This time, it hurt twice as much. Cus, it felt like the wound from my past friendship was reopened. Not only that, the feeling of rejection was great, so great. From then on, I closed my heart and wouldn't let any in. Forgiveness is hard, but I was able to. But it's one thing to forgive, forget and move on. It's also another thing to forgive and not forget or move on. The latter is my situation. I look fine on the outside, but the truth is, I'm broken beyond words. ”
Joseph had thought of Mira. How did she handle their mini break up then?
Probably she was able to become close friends with Evie not too long after which may sound selfish, but it's actually the best choice.
He would have preferred her moving on, than closing her heart.
“ Funny how people think a broken relationship hurts, when best friends break up hurts the most. ”
Joseph called a nurse in and after giving her clear instructions to watch over Mira. He walked out of the room.
He met Evelyn on the way, she looked so worried and frantic. He found himself sighing
Funny how the love between the duo hadn't reduced by one bit. “ How is Mira? ” He wasn't so surprised at the lack of formality. He was almost used to her mother's attitude by now, nevertheless, he had to get some things straight.
“ She's okay. Just resting. ” He paused before continuing. “ I believe I deserve some kind of acknowledgement, don't I? ”
He wasn't surprised to see her blush on hearing his voice. “ I'm sorry, President Joseph. Good day to you. ”
“ Good day to you too. ” He said before walking on, but paused. “ You can go see her. ”
He didn't miss the smile that bloomed on her face. “ Thank you. ” And just before he could reply, she was on her way inside the ward.
Joseph shook his head helplessly before going on his way.
“ Why do you think she reacted that way, Doc? ” He stared at the clinical psychologist seated right across him. “ It can be due to a lot of reasons. ”
“ Like? ”
“ Did she read or watch something that shook her lately? ” It didn't take Joseph a while to come up with the answer.
“ Yes, she read a book which made her very emotional. ”
“ Um. What was the book about? ”
“ A girl who was raped, months before her wedding. ” He didn't bother going into details as he figured it wasn't necessary.
“ Oh, that must have triggered her. ” The woman paused, jotting down some things before raising her head. “ Do you think she has some kind of insecurities when it comes to intimacy? ”
Though Joseph wasn't a fan of sharing his wife's secrets, he knew he didn't have much of a choice in this case. “ Yeah. ”
“ Interesting. ” Joseph was glad the woman didn't ask for details, or he would have walked out of her office.
Dr Lauren who knew exactly what he was thinking smiled. “ How lucky she is. ” She knew men like Joseph were super scarce.
Most men only care about the physical appearance of their wife, very rarely do men care about their wife's mental and emotional well-being.
“ She'll have to go through three months of therapy to remove the fear from her mind. ”
“ Okay. ” He didn't sound convinced. Why would she have to go through therapy when they can always pray about it and move on?
As if reading his mind, Lauren spoke up. “ I believe all things work together for good for those who love God and are called according to his purpose. ”
Sensing his gaze on her, she smiled. “ I'm a Christian. I'm also in charge of the counseling team in my church. ” Her grin answered the other questions on his mind.
“ Oh. ” Joseph was finally relieved. “ So I don't have to worry about much then. ”
“ Exactly. God is in control. ”
“ Indeed he is. ” He did wish she never had to go through that though.
But well, what's the use of crying over spilled milk?
Waste of time, right?
The best thing is to look ahead. look to Jesus.
