Chapter 90 Eighty-nine
* I will send out an army to find you in the middle of the darkness. *
****
The drive to the old house took about sixty minutes as it was located on the outskirts of the city.
Mira was silent throughout the journey, and Joseph understood why.
He'd known Mira a lot to know how she'll react in different situations, especially now that she was heavily pregnant and the pregnancy hormones are all over the place.
‘ The house is looking old and unkempt. ’ Was the first thing, Mira thought of as she stared at the house she had grown up in.
It housed a big part of her and her childhood.
She said her first word here, her first step was taken here and all of that.
In this same house, she moved to know more about the outside world.
How much more of herself is housed in this same house? How much more?
“ Careful. ” She heard Joseph say as she stumbled on a stone, only then did she recall that she wasn't alone after all. “ Thank you. ”
Together, they entered the house after opening the front door.
Though it's been years since she has signed those documents, yet she hadn't gained enough courage to actually come here to see for herself.
She feared that she wouldn't be able to bear the thought that it might not have the unique scent of childhood or that the memories of her childhood would be so concentrated that she won't have control over her emotions.
Who would have thought she'll be coming here when she's heavily pregnant and her emotions are over the place? Who would?
From the sitting room, to the dining room, then to the kitchen.
She was haunted by various childhood memories, she could still hear her mom call out to her, “ Careful, Mira. Don't move too fast. ”
She could hear her Dad's sweet voice calling her, “ Little Princess, Abba's beloved. ”
Slowly, she advanced towards the stairs and it all came again, rushing like a wind.
She recalled how she ran after her parents that day, asking to follow them. But they explained why she couldn't in the nicest of ways. Though she wasn't convinced. How could she be?
Coming to think of it, she realized how unusually sensitive she had been that day. If only she had stopped them, if only they hadn't left.
But what's the use of crying over spilled milk now? What is?
Slowly, she advanced to her room which had previously been inhabited by Elina, her cousin. But surprisingly, nothing had actually changed. it still feels so much like her room and she wondered how? But one look at Joseph who was following closely right behind her, she understood.
The wardrobes were filled with clothes of her childhood, some which she had worn and others which she never got to.
A gown caught her attention. It was a gold colored off shoulder ball gown, with shiny diamonds embedded on it. She felt tears spill from her eyes recalling how her mom gifted her the dress on her 5th birthday.
She had worn it that day and everyone commented on how beautiful she looked in it.
Her Dad had complimented the dress with a pair of glass slippers. “ Like Cinderella's? ” her babyish self had asked. “ Yes, like Cinderella. ” He had caressed her hair, like he had always done since she was a baby.
She looked into the shoe rack and found the glass slippers there, it hadn't depreciated a bit — it looks as good as new.
Only she knew how much time had passed.
She found a pink box with the tag, “ Little princess. ”
Curious, she opened it and almost gasped. Inside it was filled with her baby clothes and pictures.
Why hadn't she seen this before?
Slowly, she went through the photo album as tears dropped from her face.
Looking at it now, she figured she was like an exact replica of her mother. Now she knew where she got her unique beauty from.
She got her Dad's eyes and nose. The rest were her mom's.
A letter fell from the album.
Opening it, she sobbed seeing her Parents handwriting.
The first was her mom's while the second was her Dad's.
Together they had written a beautiful letter which they had titled, little Princess for here.
Little Princess,
At the time you might be seeing this letter, you'll be much older and Mom and Dad might not be here anymore.
Teardrops fell staining the paper.
Babe, we want to start by telling you that God loves you. You know Abba? Like we've always called him, loves you so much. He loves you so much that he sent his only begotten son to die for you on the cross of Calvary.
We love you, Hon. But we want you to know that God loves you more. Much more than you can imagine.
And you know what? He's always there. We'll both grow old and leave this very Earth one day, but he won't. He has been in existence since the beginning of the world and will be in existence forever and ever.
There are times when you might feel he isn't with you, but we want you to know that he does.
He created you, so he knows everything about you. You can never hide from him. There's nothing about you that he doesn't know.
You know what? You can ever outgrow him. No matter how old you are, you'll still be his dearest.
Mira, we want you to know that God has great plans for you. Even in pain and trials, he is still faithful.
You know what? The Bible says in Romans that all things work together for those who love God and are called according to his purpose.
Babe, God will never leave you. He was with you in the womb, and he'll be with you while you are breathing your last breath and at the end of the day, God willing. You'll reign with him in heaven.
Don't be sad when we are gone, Hon. We've run our own race and finished the course by bringing you into this world. You are priceless to us, don't ever forget that.
It'll be our greatest wish and desire to be with you as you read this letter, but you never know. But I do believe that God will never leave you nor forsake you.
He always has a plan.
He never makes mistakes.
He never looks track.
Even when it doesn't make sense, I want you to know that he is in control.
Even in pain, he is.
You know, he often uses pain to grow us into a better version of us.
There's obviously no gain without pain, so pain is important too!
You recall the story of Jesus we've always told you about? Well, you know, Jesus despite being the son of God had to go through pain before he could get the position of sitting at the right hand of God.
So, Babe, we want you to know that God is good and he can be trusted.
He hears you. He sees you. When no one else does, he sees you.
And when the right time comes, he'll send out an army to find you and rescue you.
We love you, Babe.
But God loves you more.
Love,
Mom & Dad.
Mira broke down in Joseph's arms after reading the letter. She just couldn't stop herself as all the emotions she had been holding back came crashing down.
Why does it feel like her parents had known about the inevitable?
Why does it feel they'd known it all beforehand?
Why?
She couldn't get the words, “ God is good, even when it doesn't make sense. ” Out of her head.
Were they trying to comfort her despite all that had happened?
“ Jose. ” She began staring at him. “ Do you think God always has a purpose for the pain? ”
“ I believe he does. ” Joseph replied, holding her securely in his arms.
“ Um. ” She leaned into him for minutes, trying to calm herself down.
Just when Joseph thought she had fallen asleep. She spoke up. “ Let's sell the house. ” Though Joseph had been expecting this, he didn't think it would come so soon, like too soon.
“ Are you sure? ” As always, he had to make sure she wasn't making decisions out of impulse.
“ I am. ” She nodded.
“ Okay, we'll do as you say. ” He replied, hugging her tightly.
“ Thanks for being there, Jose. ”
“ It's my pleasure. ” He left a peck on her forehead. “ Um. ”
