Chapter 7 SECOND CHANCE

The meeting successfully ended with Zaylee's introduction to the board as a representative of her dad and the newly employed member to join the company.
The hall was instinctively filled with applause as they welcomed her~ except for Irish who watched on with no interest at all. His eyes kept scaling through the Notepad in front of him with hopes of good news from Denzel but nothing.
Flaunting a smile, Zaylee bowed in acceptance. The look of innocence and warmth engulfed her domineering, sassy, club girl look. " Thank you for having me...I'll be sure to put on my best." She greeted and they hailed with smiles and nods.
" On that note..." Mr. Stanford began.  "~the company has decided to hold a welcome party this coming Saturday at MARBLE HOTEL AND RESORT. We have a very important announcement to make. "  He announced in a brief, the moment her words ended.
Soon, the meeting came to an end. Zaylee noticed a few members of the board along with a couple of workers having a word with Irish from the distance as she approached the corridor.
From one group to another, he visited. His smiles made him glow, distinguishing his soft oval face.
Zaylee smiled; her heart felt attracted to him for no reason. He looked like a man any woman would kill to have – she sneered, the feeling of pride surged into her heart and she felt jealous of the ladies around him.
She had never seen that side of him before. " Why wouldn't he smile like that to me?" She thought, her demeanor turned sour. They needed a word together, Zaylee convinced.
She scampered over to where he stood with his subordinates. But just when she neared, she saw him rush off to the exit after an unknown call came through.
" I'm on my way~" He sounded panicked and anxious, his back faded with the closing of the door.
" What's going on? She wondered. Without hesitation, Zaylee hurried after him. " Quickly, tail him" She pointed out as she settled in the car.
Dave had a lot to ask at her sudden rush and anxious behavior but decided to let it slide. Soon, their car screeched down the road, tailing after Irish.
In no less than 30 minutes, they noticed his car pull over in the yards of  Notel Private Hospital. He instinctively sped in, banging the door of the car right behind.
For all Zaylee knew, Irish had no business at the hospital at the moment. Both his father and sister are perfectly good so who was he there for?– her curiosity took the better side of her.
" What happened?" Zaylee heard him ask as she watched from the reception.  She was sure careful not to get caught.
" She suddenly had another cardiac arrest but is stable now" The doctor mentioned and Irish sighed. " We need a blood donor as well...none of ours match hers."
" I'm in the same blood group as her (O)" He said without hesitation after confirming hers. Their gazes glued to the door before their eyes and Zaylee wondered who it was.
Itchy to satisfy her curiosity, she grabbed for the nurse who hurried past her. " Sorry to ask..."She feigned a sheepish smile. " ...whose the patient in that ward?" She pointed but the nurse couldn't help out.
" Sorry, Maame but I can't share a patient 's detail," He said and hurried off.
" Phoneix, Phone!!" a woman called from the door, running into her in the process.
The two men with her tried to help but Zaylee scampered out without looking back. She felt the pain but had no time to react for fear of getting caught by Irish.
Her back seemed familiar but Irish was too lost to notice her. " Calm down, Ma'am...she's stable now." He addressed Kalisa who felt a little calmer than earlier.
-----
Zaylee slumped the car door in a rage which flinched him up. " Phoneix Derricks ~ find out about  her and update me ."She said to Dave who was by now staring at her from the review mirror.
"  Why do you want to know about her?"
" Just do what I say...!!!, no need for questions." She howled to which he nodded. " Yes Ma'am" He felt trashed.
                                   ♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡
It's been three days and nights after her surgery but Phoenix remained in her savage state, showing no sign of consciousness at all.
Del, on the other hand, took advantage to make things fall back to how they used to be before she gained consciousness but it wasn't going as easy as he thought.  He had heard from Berla what the doctors had stated after her cross-examination.
" She might lose her memories even after she'd overcome this." They confirmed. " Sorry..." The family was devastated by the revelation but not Berla and Del.
At least, there was no need to get rid of her. They could rather use her to their advantage as she was crazily in love with him and would do anything for him. They came up with this plan.
Although Mr. Stanly considered the unfortunate and life-threatening incident Del had claimed occurred, Mrs. Kalisa wasn't willing to just accept and forgive him.
She was only willing to do so after Phoenix had regained consciousness. She'd denied him from visiting her or anything.
Both Levi and their parents took turns caring for her over the night and even during the day. They had barely slept for the past days and this got  Irish worried. So he agreed to take over so they could rest with ease.
" Their health might deteriorate before she recovers" Denzel had confided when Irish once visited. For that reason, he spent a couple of nights as well.
It was in the early hours of the night when Irish entered the ward. In his hands were a basket of fruits and flowers.
" Oh...you're here" Levi welcomed with a smile as he stood to his feet, reaching for his assistance while he dropped the items in their rightful place.
After his religious visits and assistance, Irish had become like a family to the Derricks. " You should get going now," He said to Levi who nodded to it. He had a test tomorrow and had to catch enough rest beforehand.
" I'm off now, let me know if anything happens." He said, huddling back his books into his bag. " See you later." He headed off.
Clenching her hand into his, Irish settled in the seat in front of the bed. A faint sigh exuded from his lips as he scanned at her. He heard Phoneix loved reading so he got a couple of novels from her favorite authors.
For the past few minutes, he kept reading to her as if she could hear what he was reading. Soon dawn hit, and he dozed off without knowledge.
Slowly, Phoneix's hand twitched and her eyes sluggishly opened. Everything was blurry at first and she felt his weight over her hand. " Where am I?" Her thoughts wandered as her vision slowly cleared.
The drip stand and the beep sound of the monitor were the first that came into being. " I'm alive..." the words wearily escaped her lips, her eyes wet with tears. The last thing she remembered was the words of Berla and Del. It was like reliving those minutes again.
In a second, she struggled up, that's when she noticed him. " Mr. Irish?" She looked surprised.
" Phone...?~ Do you remember me?" His words caught her off guard?" Why wouldn't she? Phoenix thought. Was there something she had no idea of?
