Chapter 60
The Thorny Path of Misunderstandings
I didn't return to the classroom anymore because I was already bored, so I just hung out on the rooftop until it was time to go home. The entire sky had turned orange as the sun set. I stood up and left. As I reached the front of the stairway door, I asked Raya, "Aren't you going home yet?" I waited for five seconds, but there was no response. I sighed and opened the door. As I descended, many people were already leaving, and Emma was at the bottom of the stairs. She looked up at me, and we made eye contact. I stopped and forced myself to smile. "Heh... heh... hehehe," I chuckled while scratching my head. "Vice president, what do you think you're doing?" she asked, her face scowling. I went down, and as soon as I reached the bottom, she grabbed my ear and pulled me towards our building. "W-wait... ow!!! That hurts, Emma, wait, let me explain, let go of my ear!!!" I screamed as we descended the stairs. "Shut up, Vice President, this is your punishment, you prankster," she replied. When we reached the bottom, Aika, Emily, and Conrad were there. "There she goes again, HAHAHAHA, Emma, you're something else," Conrad joked. "What if it were you guys instead?" Emily retorted. Emma quickly let go of my ear and turned away from me. "That won't happen," we both replied. "Come on, HAHAHA," Aika teased. "Let's go," I said with a hint of teasing as we walked home. As we walked, Conrad and Emily were in front, while Aika and Emma were in front of me. Conrad suddenly looked back. "Why don't you walk with Aika for a bit? I need to talk to Lilith," he said to Emily. "Okay," Emily replied, and Conrad approached me while the three girls were in front of us. Conrad suddenly put his arm around me. "You know, I had the same problem before," he whispered, then he placed his hand on mine. "Court Emma," he murmured. But I think he did it intentionally because it wasn't a whisper at all; he said it quite loudly. Emma suddenly stopped walking in front of us. "What's wrong, Emma?" Aika asked. "Why are you blushing?" Emily asked. And they continued walking. We also walked behind them, and I bowed my head. "One more thing, Emma probably won't like someone like me," I whispered, but I made sure Emma heard it. Emma stopped walking again, her fists trembling with annoyance. She looked at us and approached me. "Where did you get all those ideas from!!!" she shouted at me, then uppercut me, sending me flying with the force of her punch. "I don't care about you, stay away from us!!!" she screamed and ran away. I stood up, feeling a bit dizzy from her punch. "Wow, HAHA, did Emma's punch hurt? HAHAH!" Conrad joked again, smiling as if he were insulting me. Emily looked back. "What's your problem over there? Let's talk later, Conrad," Emily said. "Oh boy, we're in trouble," Conrad whispered. We continued walking until I reached the path leading to our house. "This is where our house is, I'll go ahead," I said to them. "Yes, don't forget to ask Emma if you can court her!" Conrad said, and Emily suddenly pulled his ear. "Just leave this fool alone, go on, take care," Emily said. And I continued walking towards our house. As I turned the corner of the wall, I suddenly saw Emma leaning against the wall. Her face was flushed, and she was looking down, then suddenly she looked up at me. My heart suddenly raced faster, and her eyes widened when she saw me, her face even redder as she ran towards me and gave me another uppercut, sending me flying again. "I don't care about you, remember that!!!" she shouted and ran away. I just sighed as I walked towards our house. "I guess she really doesn't like me at all. Why do I even bother hoping?" And I arrived at our house and opened the door. My sister greeted me and hugged me tightly. "I'm glad you're home, my dear sibling, come on, I'll give you a gift now," my sister said with a devilish grin, looking like she had some plans. "Not now, sis, I want to be alone for a while," I replied to my sister. "Aw, come on, what's the rush? We're finally together again," my sister said. "Oh, by the way, do you have work today? Maybe Aries from the Zodiacs is looking for you," I asked my sister. "I'm on vacation today," she said, sitting on the sofa and turning on the TV. And I went to my room, placed my bag on the floor, and sighed deeply. And I lay down on my bed, sighing deeply once again. I rested my arm on my forehead. "I shouldn't have hoped anymore, it's obvious she doesn't like me. I didn't realize I fell asleep. When I opened my eyes, my sister was already in front of me, smiling. "Good morning." My eyes widened, and I suddenly moved away from her. "What are you doing in my room, sis?" I asked. "Now you're being shy, I used to do this to you all the time before," she replied. "That was before, but now I'm at the right age, sis." "Don't you have school today? What time is it?" "Oh right," I prepared to go to school. "You can go to school this afternoon; your classes have already started." "Okay, sis." "Heh, you really look like a young man now. Are you going to tell me about love?" "What are you talking about, sis, no." "You would be a handsome man if your hair wasn't like that, come on, let me fix it for you." "Wait, sis..." "No one will like you if you dress like that." "But, isn't it okay for you that the person you wanted to marry when we were kids now likes someone else?" "What are you talking about, you said you're not a kid anymore and you're at the right age, come on, let me fix you up." "Fine." Emma's POV I sat down, jotting down all the important details our teacher lectured about. As our recess approached, I headed to the canteen. I felt a bit uneasy because Lilith usually accompanies me during recess, but today, he was nowhere to be found. "How are you, Emma?" Aika suddenly appeared behind me. "Seems like you're dealing with a big problem today?" "Oh, it's nothing," I replied as we returned to our classroom. "I heard Lilith isn't here today," Aika said as she ate her snacks. "Why not?" I asked. "I don't know." "It seems like he took to heart what I told him yesterday. I shouldn't have said that to him; he might be hurt," I thought to myself. As lunchtime approached, I went to the rooftop and sat on the edge. "Why did I say that, why?" I muttered to myself. "I might have changed Lilith's perception of me, and he might not want to be around me anymore." What got into my head when I said that to Lilith? I'm sure I hurt his feelings with my words. I'll apologize to him when he comes in this afternoon. As the afternoon approached, Lilith still hadn't reached out to me, and I was starting to lose myself while our teacher lectured. I gazed out the window and let out a sigh. Our teacher's class finally ended. "Hey, Emma, I heard our next teacher won't be coming," Aika suddenly approached me. "Is that so, Aika?" "Yeah, by the way, who are you going to the festival with? It's next week." "I haven't thought about it yet, what about you, Aika?" "I haven't decided either, haha," she replied. Then Emily approached us. "Emma, have you heard about Lilith?" She asked me. "Why? What about him?" I asked, feeling a bit worried. "I heard he drew something and looked sleep-deprived. He probably didn't sleep because of what you said yesterday." "I think he's really hurt," I said, bowing my head.
