Chapter 66: Insiders

"Top such a weird name HAHAHA!" Fox laughed out loud.
After settling inside their room, they were now given a chance to talk privately. Hawk just rolled his eyes at her. Top is his real name. He is the second most eldest son of the Monty's.
"Serene suits you so well." Hawk replied sarcastically.
It's the opposite of Fox, she's not serene at all. Just like Hawk, it's her real name. Fox stopped laughing, the air was now filled with a more serious ambience. The test just began.
"Think of a plan Hawk, you flew here so be it." Fox ordered.
Hawk turned to face her. Her face switched expressions. Maybe because something happened. Earlier today, Fox received a threat. It's from their client. They want the job to be done as soon as possible. And if they fail to carry out the project, the head assured their plans will go against the assassins.
"Yes, but we need to be careful. You've seen the league. They might seem weak in our first impression but they aren't. Bluemierre is not called the highest and supreme for nothing." Hawk reminded her of the consequences.
Their target is not just a normal businessman. Dylan is the king, and besides that, something inside Fox is bothering her. After seeing Dylan's eyes closer and clearer, she felt nostalgia coming straight back to life.
Those hazelnut brown eyes resembles an old friend of hers. She's hoping, but everything still looks too impossible to be true.
In the middle of the conversation, someone knocked. It was good that Fox did not bother to reply. Since Hawk is nearer towards the door, he stood up to open it.
But as the knob twist, he heard the footsteps behind the wooden door stop. He froze his own movements. From the inside Hawk doesn't know of what is happening. Fox felt his carefulness. She just eyed his every move.
Before Hawk could open the door, he pulled his gun out, positioning himself to fire. It's better safe than sorry. He pointed his gun using his left hand, slowly, Hawk opened the door.
But there was something more than just footsteps. Hawk found no one, he looked left and right but he saw no shadow. With forehead knotted, he looked down.
A knock won't sound itself unless someone did it. As his eyes wander, the answer to his curiosity flashed. Hawk knelt down to pick up the teddy bear. It was a small brown bear with a red ribbon tied to its neck.
His eyes widened after realizing to whom it might belong. With almost trembling weak knees, Hawk stood up. He closed the door tightly, locking it securely. Fox noticed what he brought inside.
"What's that?" She asked.
Hawk's eyes were still fixed on the toy. He couldn't grasp for the possibilities that might happen.
"It's my sister's toy." In an empty voice, Hawk replied.
Fox was astonished with what she heard, she did not know that Hawk has a sister. They're both mysteries wearing dark veil, to him, she's also too undefined. Only a little personal information is known to him. Hawk doesn't even know Fox's age!
As Fox stare at him, she noticed something from the bsck of the teddy bear.
"At the back, there's something at the back."
Hawk turned the toy around just like what she said. Everything that is happening now is too much for overthinking, but seems like life doesn't want them to rest. There, Hawk pulled the paper closer to his eyes.
"Remember your job, or I'll turn your profession against you." He read the message out loud.
Fox heard it loud and clear, even she is a bit surprised. They're a bit late from their deadline, but that doesn't mean that they will fail. The text was written in bloody red ink. It doesn't smell like blood, but there's no assurance that Celine is safe.
Celine owns that teddy bear, it's her most favorite toy. No one can separate her and that toy. That fact is enough to make Hawl feel to suspicious and careful.
"We need a timing, they can't be involved." Hawk mouthed.
The only thing that Fox can do is just nod. She heard before that Hawk is from a family of assassins, but there's no guarantee of safety in that. Even assassins can be assassinate.
Hawk is a strong man, but he still has his weaknesses, family and love. Fox still feels nothing towards him, but yet, she's concerned of his sister's safety.
Hawk looked up to face her, she smiled sympathetically. It won't ease the danger, but it can wipe sadness and worries away. Fox wanted to assure him of an easy job this time but something is bothering her. Hawk could see that.
"After we enter Bluemierre fully, no more happy time, we'll end this project once and for all." Hawk killed his worries.
Fox just nodded to respond. She has no other choice but to continue their job, she started this, then she has to finish this. Though it's hard, Fox needs to neglect what her instincts say. It wanted her to stop the project, but she has no other option. The Ace of Foxes needs to kill Dylan Bryst.
The two shared a glance, Hawk's eyes differ from Fox. Not just because of the iris, but with the way how he looked at her. She couldn't grasp for the truth, Fox is numb. She's intelligent, but when it comes to love she felt almost nothing.
After what happened 15 years ago, she doubted if she'll ever fall in love again. The young Lan was her first love, and she believed that first love never dies. Sadly, that young boy is still lost and unknown. She hoping that someday their paths might cross, it'll be okay even if she won't be the content of his heart. A glimpse from the young Lan will change her life, but the question if he's still alive lingered on her mind.
'Where are you Lan?' She needed answers, but perhaps it's not yet the time.
