CHAPTER 12

SAM POV
As I finally collapsed into the soft cushions of my swivel chair outside Mr. At Gomez's office, I felt overwhelmingly tired. My entire body felt weak, as if all my energy had been drained after a long day of continuous discussions in his office.
It had been a chaotic day, with countless tasks and requests that kept growing. From hurrying to get him to sign piles of papers that different departments urgently needed, to joining him in meetings with several investors.
As I leaned back in my chair, seeking comfort in the fleeting calm, I couldn't help but think about how my job as Mr. Gomez's secretary had changed into something more than I expected.
As I sat there, lost in my thoughts, the sound of footsteps approaching brought me back to reality. I looked up and saw Mr. Gomez came out of his office, holding a bunch of papers and looking stressed.
"Sam, I need you to check with the legal department about these contracts. They've been taking too long," he said, his tone serious but firm.
I nodded, getting ready for more calls and emails to speed things up. "Sure, Mr. Gomez. I'll handle it immediately," I said, determined to get it done.
I looked up and saw Kent at my cubicle, a mischievous glint in his eyes and a playful grin on his face. "Care for a break, Ms. Secretary?" he joked, his tone playful and teasing, always making me smile.
I couldn't help but laugh at his playful behavior, thankful for the light moment in my busy day. "Perhaps another time, kent. I'm busy with work," I said, motioning towards the stacks of papers on my desk to show how much I had to do.
As I looked at the clock on my computer, I felt anxious. Time seemed to be passing quickly, making me worry. Despite trying hard to manage my work, tasks kept adding up, overwhelming me with paperwork and deadlines.
As I tried to sort out my tasks and meet the approaching deadlines, the office buzzed with activity. Colleagues hurried around, focused on their duties and responsibilities.
"You can do that later; let's eat first. It's already late; you might get sick," he said, genuinely worried.
I sighed, torn between my growing workload and the importance of self-care. Skipping lunch felt like a small sacrifice, but Kent words resonated with me.
"Kent, please understand me," I begged, my voice tired. "I'll come for dinner later, not now, okay? There's so much work, and the deadline is coming."
He looked at me with care, his eyes showing understanding. "I know you're busy, but don't forget to take care of yourself. You can't help others if you're not okay, Sam."
"Okay," Kent finally agreed. "I'll come back here, and we'll have dinner together. But make sure you take a break and rest."
I nodded, thankful for his understanding. "Thanks, kent. I'll make sure to relax tonight."
With that, Alex gave me a comforting smile before leaving me to handle the pile of tasks ahead. "Okay, I have to go. Meet me at the lobby. I'll wait for you," he said, giving me one last instruction before walking towards the elevator. He smiled and waved at me before disappearing from my sight.
As Alex gave me one final direction before walking to the elevator, I felt thankful for his constant support. With a nod, I watched him leave, his smile staying with me even after he was out of sight.
As I turned to go back to my work, still thinking about the many tasks ahead, the elevator's sudden sound surprised me. I looked up and saw the doors open, showing the man I had been thinking about just the day before.
I was surprised to see him. I thought he had gone back to Manila the day before, so his sudden appearance in the office was confusing.
Despite my confusion, I tried to set aside my personal feelings and concentrate on my job as a secretary. With a practiced smile, I walked out of my cubicle to welcome him, staying professional and calm even though I felt a mix of emotions.
"Welcome back, Mr. Buenaventura. How can I help you?" I asked, staying professional while feeling curious inside.
Mr. Buenaventura looked at me for a moment, his expression hard to read. "I'm here to talk to Mr. Gomez about the jewelry launch," he said, sounding authoritative.
I nodded, feeling relieved that his visit was about work. "Mr. Gomez is in a meeting now, but I can set up a time for you to talk with him whenever it suits you," I said, planning to adjust Mr. Gomez's schedule for the unexpected guest.
Mr. Buenaventura nodded, his expression becoming a bit gentler. "That works. Let me know the earliest time," he said, sounding less serious than earlier.
I checked Mr. Gomez's calendar, looking at his appointments. "What about tomorrow morning at 10? Mr. Gomez has some free time then," I proposed, hoping it would work for Mr. Buenaventura.
He thought about it for a bit before agreeing. "That's fine. Let Mr. Gomez know I'll be waiting," he said firmly.
I nodded, reminding myself to tell Mr. Gomez. "I'll let him know. Do you need help with anything else, Mr. Buenaventura?" I asked, wanting to make sure everything was taken care of for him.
He shook his head, a slight smile on his lips. "That's all, thank you," he said, then headed towards Mr. Gomez's office.
As I watched him leave, I felt curious about Mr. Buenaventura. Was he pretending we've never met? Or did he have an ulterior motive? Either way, it's good that he's acting like we've never met. It gives me peace of mind. There was something about him that made me curious, something that made me want to know more. But for now, I put aside my thoughts and focused on my work.
