24. Sincere Sympathy

Is this how you behave when talking to others?" quipped Fallen as she sipped her tea quietly.
"I'm tired of you." Regen sighed as he pushed his cup away. "Just say your opinion all you want, then let me know with that sharp mouth of yours." Regen knew that he was too desperate to ask the opinion of the person he disliked the most.

"You're begging me which is rather ridiculous." Fallen flashed a sardonic smile. "You wanted to know what I thought, so I gave you my opinion," she said proudly.

Seeing that face filled with pride honestly made Regen sick. He felt like pouring the hot tea on Fallen's face.

"If you want to pour the hot tea on my face, then pour it all on my face." Fallen smiled as she put down her teacup in the most elegant manner.

Regen was stunned by Fallen's words. As if he were guessing the contents of his head, Fallen managed to make him feel a little horrified.

"Just ignore what I just said. I'm going to be serious from here on." Fallen stared at Regen intently. His gaze was exactly like that of a lion about to pounce on its prey.

"Is that true?" asked Regen curiously.

Fallen shook her head. "It might be. I can only tell you this much. The rest you can figure out on your own," said Fallen.

Regen paused as he looked down at his cup of leftover tea. His mind felt even more frantic as he listened to the explanation given by Fallen. Instead of finding peace in his heart, he felt even more uncomfortable.

Everyone stands by their assumptions. The longer a human lives, the more he learns. Things that were not known before try to be known after living life in such a way.

Life is an art. Many people are trying to understand what art is in living life in such a way.

Some do it well, but some do not. Some try to understand it, but some don't. Some care, but some are indifferent. How interesting the art looks depends on who the performer is.

Of all the lives that have been seen One of them looked interesting. A young man who tended to keep to himself, seeing himself as very weak. Not realizing how great the potential was within himself.

That ordinary-looking figure never realized that he had an interesting life. Many people mistakenly think that the more ordinary the life lived by someone, the less interesting it is. The opposite is true. A life that is considered interesting can look the opposite. The world is always filled with absurd things. But that's what makes it interesting.

"Are you okay?" asked Nakamori as he looked at me intently. He looked worried. I knew it was supposed to be a concern, but his gaze made me feel uncomfortable. He gave me a slightly terrifying look. That face of hers looked like a kitsune fox demon that was creepy yet pleasing to the eye. Is this what you call a sight that is delicious yet creepy at the same time?

"Not really," I replied in a tired voice. "I didn't expect you to come back here." I was more or less curious as to why this girl would suddenly turn around and come to me.

"Worrying about you, maybe?" she said with a strange expression on her face.

"Huh?" I didn't understand what she meant by that. I wasn't sure if she understood the meaning of the word worry.

"Why are you reacting so strangely?" she asked irritably.

"Honestly, I wasn't sure what you were saying before. I mean, worry? Wait, even me; I'm not sure you understand it well yourself." Maybe the words I threw at her could have hurt her feelings. But it would feel so itchy if I kicked her myself.

"You don't usually talk like this. But what you said might have some truth to it. I can understand in a way what you meant by what you said to me." Nakamori sighed and turned his gaze out the window. "I haven't understood feelings since I was a child... I knew clearly that it was a flaw. But my environment never made an issue of it. I grew up in a good place with the idea that a flaw is a strength in itself," Nakamori says.

I could catch the meaning of the implied word lack. For some reason, I felt empathetic toward her. I could understand a little of what she was saying. As she said, it didn't matter how people in her neighborhood responded to her lack of was clear from the statement she made that it gave evidence of how much the people around this girl cared. They, the people in her neighborhood, want to show her that her disability is not a barrier to living a normal life.

I honestly admire how the people around this girl seem to have good personalities. I could see how the behavior of those people taught the meaning of kindness, and it was reflected clearly through Nakamori. I know that girl is annoying and often makes my brain move to my feet. Still, I felt that she was a good girl with a unique personality. I sympathize with her.

"I admire the people in your neighborhood," I said sincerely.

"They are kind because they know that I am filled with flaws. I've never asked to be treated well because I don't know exactly how to be treated well or not. It's just that when I try to understand it more realistically, I feel that those people who have always supported me have so much patience. Even though I often behave rudely, they don't scold me harshly; instead, they reprimand me in a gentle way that I can still understand. They are unique. Humans are elusive creatures," the girl said.

"I can understand the feelings of the people around you. They do show you genuine affection. You don't have to think of anything else when there are people who give you affection and don't expect anything in return. You're lucky to have them, but they're also really lucky to have a nice girl like you." As soon as I said that, I didn't realize I had touched the girl's hand and then grasped it tightly.

"I can't believe you touched me." Nakamori looked at me intently. Even so, she did not seem to be avoiding physical contact at all.

A little surprised, I hurriedly let go of her hand and apologized to her for touching her carelessly.
