Chapter 120: Heart of an Angel

The city cemetery on winter days was even more desolate. The space around was extremely deserted. Rosalind stood still for a long time, her heart filled with sorrow as she looked at the innocent face on the tombstone.
“I know it's meaningless to say anything now, but I still want to apologize to you. I'm sorry, Alma.” She sobbed.
Lyle gently brushed away the white snow covering the grave. The person who had lain there had rested in peace, that holy smile is forever intact and never lost due to the storms of life, only those who remained were forever immersed in sadness.
“Why are you two here?”
The question from behind startled both Lyle and Rosalind. At this moment, Donna saw two bouquets, one white lily, and one white chrysanthemum, placed on her sister's grave. For the whole year, every weekend, she visited Alma's grave and always saw two fresh bouquets like that.
“Donna, I came here today to apologize to you and Alma.” Rosalind said in tears.
“Really? How do you intend to apologize?”
After saying that, Donna stepped forward, placing the white chrysanthemums in her hand next to the other two bouquets. When she turned around, she saw both Lyle and Rosalind kneeling on the ground.
“What are you two doing?”
“Donna, I know I committed a big crime. You call the police to arrest me. I just ask you to forgive Lyle and Daniel, the two of them are implicated by me. For the past year, they have lived in torment and misery, please punish me alone and don't hate them anymore.” Rosalind grabbed the hem of Donna's shirt, earnestly pleading.
“Donna, Rosalind and I will do whatever you want, as long as it can ease your pain.” Lyle continued.
Donna looked at the actress kneeling on the cold snow, her hands clutching her shirt, her eyes swollen as if she had been crying for a long time, making her suddenly feel heartbroken. She was a kind person by nature, and could not bear to see others cry.
She knew that Rosalind's situation was also very sad when she lost her mother early, her father jumped off a building to commit suicide, leaving behind a huge debt, and she also had a mental illness.
If she were an outsider looking in, perhaps she would easily sympathize with the actress, but the person lying in the cold ground is her sister and no one else.
During this time, Donna tried to forget her hatred so that she could live peacefully and live well. However, she did not want to face those who were involved in her sister's death because only then could she completely let go of her hatred. But today, Rosalind came and knelt down here, making her not know what to do.
In the distance, among the graves, there is a funeral procession entering. The sound of mourning and lamentation echoed in the bleak winter afternoon. Another person had closed their eyes and passed away, returning to the cold ground.
Quickly wiping away the tears that were about to fall from the corner of her eyes, she bent down and helped Rosalind stand up. She knows what she should do. Human life is so short and impermanent, so she believes that Alma does not want to see those who stay behind suffer forever because of her.
“Alma's dream is to help the poor. Please do it for her.”
Rosalind seemed too surprised by the forgiveness, so she just stood there, unable to react. Only when Donna had gone far away and felt Lyle's hand on her shoulder did she wake up and quickly speak loudly.
“Thank you, I promise to spend the rest of my life to fulfill her wish.”
A smile appeared on Donna's lips, though tears were streaming down her face. She thought to herself that her angel sister would agree with her decision. Well, let Rosalind replace Alma and continue writing beautiful dreams for unfortunate lives.
Leaving the cemetery, Donna wandered through the streets. Seeing a few homeless old people huddled in the corner to avoid the cold, she suddenly remembered the people under the bridge in the past.
It's been so long since she stopped by there, she doesn't know how they are. Perhaps the fish and meat rice meals had been replaced by vegetarian meals.
Going to the restaurant, she bought a few boxes of rice to give to the poor people and quickly ran to the bus station. Her heart was urging her to return to visit the old place once.
When Donna arrived, it was late afternoon. The scene of the boarding house was still the same as before. She only dared to look at the small room from afar, which contained so many memories of her and her sister having fun together, and Daniel too.
She stood there for a long time before turning back and stopping by the house of the woman who cooked the charity rice. When the woman saw the girl who distributed the food appear, she could not hide her emotions.
“Oh my god, Donna, where did you go without saying goodbye?”
“I'm sorry.”
“Why apologize? Come in, come in quickly.” As she spoke, she pulled Donna inside and hurriedly made her a cup of hot tea.
Donna looked around and when she saw that the pots and pans used to cook rice for charity had disappeared, she was extremely surprised. She thought to herself that maybe this woman had run out of money so she stopped doing this charity work.
“Ma'am, haven't you been cooking for the homeless lately?” Donna boldly asked.
“Don't you know anything?”
“What happened?”
The woman smiled gently and slowly told Donna everything. The story was that after she moved away for about a month, Daniel started building a housing area for the homeless and gathered them all there.
For those who are still healthy and able to work, he supports them to earn a living, and for those who are old, weak, and sick, the charity fund of LE bank will take care of them, and children can also go to charity classes in the evening.
“Where is that place?” Donna asked eagerly.
“Go straight to the end of the street and turn left about two hundred meters and you will get there.”
“Then I'll go now, next time I'll visit you again.”
“Uh, next time remember to stay and have dinner with my family.”
Donna nodded vigorously and hurriedly ran in the direction the woman pointed. Her heart was filled with an indescribable joy. Her and her little sister's distant dream had suddenly come true through Daniel's hands.
When her footsteps stopped in front of the gate of the house, the words “Alma Love Home” caught her eyes, making her stunned. It turned out that the man took her sister's name to name this project.
When she had just moved her gaze inside, Daniel was also hurriedly walking out. Seeing her, he rushed over.
“You…”
“I heard what Ms. Marry said so I came to take a look. I didn't know you were also here.”
“This afternoon I stopped by Alma's grave and then visited the orphanages. Tomorrow, I'm going abroad for work. It'll be more than a month before I come back, so I came to visit everyone.”
“That... before Alma passed away, what did she say to you?”
“She told me to stay by your side and take care of you.”
“And now you feel guilty?”
“No, even if she doesn't say anything, I still want to care and look after the person I love.”
Seeing Donna bow her head, not saying anything more, Daniel had no choice but to say goodbye and then walk past her. The moment their sleeves lightly touched, he felt his heart tighten.
Is there anything more painful than this? The old scene is still here but the love is gone. When he thought about the future of her walking with another man who was not him, he saw the future ahead covered in gray.
Looking at the shadow of the man trudging through the snow, walking towards the white car, Donna's nose suddenly stung. If the person who was stabbed by the deadly knife that day was Daniel, she didn't know what would happen to her.
Remembering the cruel words she had said to him, she felt extremely regretful.
“Chairman, are you free tonight? I… want to invite you to dinner to thank you for the interview.”
Daniel's legs seemed to be buried in the snow, his whole body was frozen. It took a while for him to move, he quickly turned around and ran back to her.
“I'm free, as long as you call, I'm always free.”
“Talking nonsense. Will you be free if I call you tomorrow or the day after?”
“Of course.”
“Aren't you going on a business trip for a month tomorrow?” She widened her eyes in surprise.
“I will let the deputy general director replace me, just sign the authorization letter for him.”
After saying that, Danel grabbed Donna's hand and pulled her to the parked car, opened the car door, stuffed her in, and used the seat belt to tie her up as if he was afraid she would run away.
She could only look at him without saying a word. This guy works in a bank, not selling fish, but his hands and mouth are equally fast.
