Chapter 89 A ( 35 )

Episode 35: Foe or Friend?
Early in the morning, Ameira and Aleja went to the hospital together at work. Aleja cleaned up the burn on her arm before they drove to work. "Come on, Aleja. I just burned myself; therefore, I don't need you to hold me, and I am not crippled, okay?" She's annoyed and trying to distance herself from him because he's too close to her to the point where her heart is beating fast, and that makes her uncomfortable.
"Shut up. Just behave and let me. And I'm older than you," he hissed.
"Then should I start calling you brother?"
"Brother, my ass." He unlocked his office door and let her in first before he followed. "You don't have to work today. Just sit beside me. I don't want to lose my eyes on you. I'm scared you might do something stupid again, kid."
Ameira didn't speak and just obeyed him because he was persistent, and if she disobeyed, the more he would annoy her, and she didn't want that to happen. As much as possible, she doesn't want to be closer to him because, in the first place, they are enemies.
Until she finds the real killer of his father, she will not have peace. Even if she feels something for him, it won't prevail because the mission is more important than the love, and she knows they won't have a good ending. There is no place for her love.
Aleja was already busy reviewing some papers, and it looked like even one client hadn't visited him. It must be because of his record that no one visits him at all.
She just watches Aleja busy with something, and only the air conditioner creates noise in the clinic, but later a continuous knock is heard outside the door, and the next thing they know, there are a bunch of police officers who come in holding a piece of paper.
Both of them immediately stood up to their sudden appearance.
"Are you Aleja Montevallo?" One of the policemen asked him who the leader of them was.
Aleja knitted. "Yes, it's me. Wait—What's wrong? Why are you all doing here?" He asked, and confusion was written all over his voice.
"Do you still remember the old lady who went here to get checked up?"
"Yes, I do. She went here to ask about her condition, and I prescribed her the right medicine. What about it?" Aleja was confused and still didn't know what was going on.
"You are the culprit that pointed out who killed her since you were the last one she talked to before she died. According to the investigation, we found out that the medicine you gave her was the cause of her early death. She was more triggered by the reason for the loss of her life. The medicine you gave wasn't the medicine to help her, but a medicine that worsened the disease the old lady had." Aleja was even more confused, so he couldn't refine himself by raising his voice. "That's impossible! I always make sure that I give the right medicine to my patients. Their lives are my priority. I've been nursing lots of criminals inside the jails, and gangsters are on the verge of death, and I always excel. So I have nothing to do with that old lady's death you were talking about." He denied the accusations.
"Save your breath and come with us nicely. Don't let us take you by force. You have the right to remain silent, and anything you say can be used against the law." The police officer said that and asked the other police to arrest him as others started searching the room.
But before that happened, Ameira came between them. "Show me your warrant of arrest before you can take him." She wants to make sure they are permitted to arrest him before she can take action. She wants to know and calculate everything so she can help him, yet she doesn't know anything despite being here before the incident happened.
The police officer sneered and showed a white envelope. "Little kiddo, I'm afraid your old boyfriend might go back again to jail." He smiled devilishly.
Ameira harshly took the white envelope from the police officer's hand, and instead of talking back, she opened the envelope, which was approved by their boss's permission for him to arrest Aleja.
She looked at them blankly while they turned upside down the whole clinic to find this medicine's so-called evidence. She watched every move they made until one of them found that medicine.
"I found it." One of the officers found evidence of the cause of the old lady's death.
Ameira was left alone in Aleja's clinic as they took him to the police station for an investigation. She stood there blankly, staring. The whole clinic became messed up like a storm, turning things upside down.
Ameira raised her eyes when someone slammed the door in a hurry, and it showed Catalina, who was shocked and worry, plastered on her face.
"What's happened to Aleja? Why did they take him? Is it true he was suspected of killing his patient?" Her voice was a horse.
"Why do you ask me? Aren't you supposed to know that because you work for his family?"
"Oh, come on! Don't act like innocents here. Weren’t you the one who ordered me to betray Aleja? You were the mastermind of everything and the killer of his father! Everything is your fault!" She shouted angrily.
She boredly rolled her eyes and looked at her, uninterested. "Until I haven't proven that I killed him, you have no right to open up about whatever happened in the past, especially about the case of Mr. Alejandro. So just better do your job as the director." She was ready to step forward to leave the room, but Celestina tightly held her arm. "I will not shut my mouth or keep silent like you did to me before. I'm not scared of you anymore. To protect him, I betrayed him, but now it's different I will stand by his side. You forced me to betray him before for his safety, but now he's in prison again. I can't keep silent anymore because you're the reason why he's in jail again. If not because of you he won't be here too. So this time I'll protect him in my way, and there's nothing you can do about it," she gritted her teeth while deadly staring at her.
