Red Roses: 06

3RD PERSON'S POV
Ali trudged through the forest, her feet sinking into the muddy ground with each step. The creature followed her closely, its glowing blue eyes never leaving her. The rain had finally stopped, leaving the air crisp and cool. The storm had passed, but the sense of urgency remained. Ali needed to find shelter, a place where she and the creature could rest and plan their next move.
After hours of walking, she stumbled upon an old, decrepit house hidden deep in the woods. The house was surrounded by overgrown foliage, its once-white paint peeling and weathered. Vines climbed the walls, and the windows were dark and lifeless. It looked abandoned, but it was the best option they had.
"Come on," Ali said, glancing back at the creature. It nodded, following her as she made her way up the creaky wooden steps. She pushed the door open, and it groaned in protest, revealing a dimly lit interior.
The house was eerily intact, as if the previous occupants had left in a hurry. Dust covered the furniture, but everything was still in place. A worn-out couch sat in the living room, flanked by an old coffee table and a television that looked surprisingly modern. The air was musty, but it was warm and dry.
Ali motioned for the creature to follow her inside. She closed the door behind them, feeling a sense of relief wash over her. They had found shelter, at least for now.
The creature stood in the center of the room, its tall, muscular frame taking in the surroundings. Ali couldn't help but marvel at its beauty and the aura of sadness that seemed to surround it. She had so many questions, but for now, they needed to rest.
She wandered into the kitchen, finding it stocked with canned goods and other non-perishable items. The electricity was still working, and she turned on the lights, illuminating the small space. It was cozy, despite the layer of dust that covered everything.
Ali returned to the living room and found the creature sitting on the couch, its eyes closed. She could see the fatigue etched into its features, and she felt a pang of sympathy. She grabbed a blanket from a nearby chair and draped it over the creature's shoulders. It opened its eyes and gave her a grateful look.
"We'll stay here for a while," Ali said softly. "Get some rest. I'll keep watch."
The creature nodded, closing its eyes again. Ali watched it for a moment before turning her attention to the television. She turned it on, and to her surprise, it flickered to life. The news was on, and she listened intently as the reporter spoke.
"Authorities are still searching for the creature that escaped from the research facility. Witnesses describe it as a tall, humanoid being with glowing blue eyes. The creature is considered extremely dangerous. If you see it, do not approach. Contact authorities immediately."
Ali's heart sank. They were still looking for the creature, and by extension, for her. She turned the television off and sat down in a nearby chair, her mind racing. They couldn't stay here forever. They needed a plan.
As she sat there, her thoughts drifted back to her childhood. She had always been different, possessing an unnatural strength that set her apart from other kids. She remembered the first time she realized it, when she had lifted a car to save a trapped kitten. Her parents had been horrified, and they had tried to hide her abilities, fearing what others would think.
But Ali couldn't hide who she was. Her strength was a part of her, and she had learned to control it over the years. It had saved her more times than she could count, and now, it was her greatest asset.
She stood up, feeling a surge of determination. She wouldn't let fear dictate her actions. She had the strength to protect herself and the creature, and she would do whatever it took to keep them both safe.
Ali walked back to the kitchen and began preparing a meal with the canned goods she had found. The simple act of cooking helped calm her nerves, and soon, the smell of warm food filled the air. She brought a plate to the creature, who accepted it gratefully.
They ate in silence, the only sound the soft hum of the old refrigerator. Ali's mind continued to race with plans and possibilities. They needed to move, to find a more secure location. But for now, they would rest.
After they finished eating, Ali stood up and stretched. She needed to check the rest of the house, to make sure it was safe. "I'm going to look around," she said to the creature. "Stay here and rest."
The creature nodded, watching her with those haunting blue eyes. Ali felt a pang of emotion but pushed it aside. She had a job to do.
She moved through the house, checking each room carefully. The bedrooms were small but furnished, and she found extra blankets and pillows in a closet. The bathroom was functional, with running water and a small supply of toiletries. It was as if the house had been waiting for them.
Ali returned to the living room, satisfied that they were safe for now. The creature was still on the couch, its eyes closed. Ali sat down in the chair, watching it for a moment before her own fatigue caught up with her. She had been running on adrenaline for so long, and now, in the safety of the old house, she finally allowed herself to relax.
She dozed off, her dreams filled with memories of her childhood and the strange events that had led her to this moment. She dreamed of her parents, of their fear and confusion when they realized she was different. She dreamed of the creature, its eyes filled with sadness and longing.
When she woke, the room was dark. The fire had died down, and the only light came from the moon shining through the window. Ali sat up, rubbing her eyes. The creature was still on the couch, watching her with a curious expression.
"Couldn't sleep?" she asked, her voice barely a whisper.
The creature shook its head. Ali nodded, understanding. She had spent many sleepless nights herself, haunted by the past and the unknown future. She stood up and stoked the fire, bringing it back to life. The warmth was comforting, and she sat down beside it, lost in thought.
The creature moved to sit beside her, its presence a strange comfort. Ali looked at it, feeling a connection she couldn't explain. "Why are you here?" she asked softly. "What do you want?"
The creature didn't respond, but its eyes held a depth of emotion that spoke volumes. Ali felt a tear slip down her cheek, and she wiped it away, frustrated by her own vulnerability. She had always been strong, always in control. But now, everything was changing.
They sat in silence for a long time, the fire crackling softly. Ali's mind wandered, thinking about the future and the uncertain path ahead. She didn't have all the answers, but she knew one thing for certain: she wouldn't let fear dictate her actions. She had the strength to protect herself and the creature, and she would do whatever it took to keep them both safe.
The night wore on, and Ali finally felt a sense of peace settle over her. She had found a sanctuary in the storm, a place to rest and regroup. The journey ahead would be difficult, but she was ready to face it.
As the first light of dawn began to break through the clouds, Ali felt a renewed sense of purpose.
Not until her phone rang.
Conrad was calling.
